ParticipantLol @ Sean Maguire.

ParticipantI like that. A curse that powerful should not entirely be broken because someone else is generous and kind–feels like the struggle also is to make that choice yourself to break free, which Rumple did, to internalize the desire not to be filled only by as Rumple put it “craven self-interest”.

ParticipantPerhaps Keb, but Belle also saw the shawl around Rumple’s shoulders as he prepared to cross the town line, and memory-restored Belle would have had that memory restored too, so maybe she knew it from then but works if a call-back to seeing it in his memorial ritual.
My point though was in terms of setting emotions and developing back-story I just did not feel the scene as written told me something NEW about Rumple and Belle, either to each other or their understanding of their connections to OTHER people.
Given this was the episode where Rumple ends up killing his own father–finding out he loved his father, and every year had a memorial for him (rather than Bae, which we knew Belle knew about) despite fearing turning into him, that could have been very poignant.
I still hope I’m wrong about the shawl being Bae’s and it is meant to be Pan’s as I would like that a LOT better. It just didn’t look like a different one and we all seem to have concluded he’s talking about Bae.

ParticipantHeather–cheers to that. Yes, there are reasons that people like and root for CS–this season more than last but it doesn’t just wipe away earlier moments that set-up SF.
Anyway, this is how I feel about coming into this thread, knowing I won’t see anyone who wants to air-brush Neal out of the story:

ParticipantNL was sort of PP in real time though–the Darling bros might have seen the movie version of themselves and bawled their eyes out. The Crocodile even killed the villain–but this time Pan instead of Hook of course.

ParticipantA spin-off would have made sense but not now after the WL disaster. OUAT is an ensemble show, with a lot of main cast and side-characters, plus it sort of should feature many guest stars in order to give us that sprawling feel of new twists on old fairy-tale and other classic stories. Hook fans would anchor the new show, and if some stopped watching OUAT that would trade off with the fans who are fatigued by character. It could have worked well too with a later time slot and being more “more grown-up, racier OUAT that they wanted for WL. If Wl had worked, it could have made both shows stronger–and I think a show about Hook might have been able to do that better than WL without Hatter did.
We barely found out anything about Tinkerbell and Pan’s relationship, or how Wendy got back into NL, or Smee–but instead we met a brother that was never foreshadowed and probably will never see or hear about again, because we have so many other stories to visit. If a show had done the same parallel of past and present, and all that it could have done very well.
With Wl having failed, plus OUAT ‘s slide in ratings though–I don’t think anyone needs to worry about it actually happening though.

ParticipantPossible but unless this sets up Belle having similar vision talks with “dead” Rumple, not sure it makes the scene feel that much less of a rehash/pointless one that would have been better spent on some new thing between Rumple asking Belle–or even a time Rumple spoke about his father to set up that Rumple loved his father but his father had told him before that he never loved him, yet would say let’s start over. Then Belle would say if you really love someone you don’t need a fresh start–you just need forgiveness, andt to learn from the past. Just more poetic and Belle like–setting up why she takes him back and does not judge him for his past dark acts. She does not need a fresh start with him to love him because she loves him despite his flaws or something like that.

ParticipantPeople react different to grief. Belle and Bae are contrasting one another. Belle, who wears her heart on her sleeve, is on her knees sobbing. Bae, who learned long ago to tuck his heart away lest it be hurt again, is trying his hardest to keep himself in check
This! It made a contrast that worked on screen to highlight them both rather than competing to upstage the other. What I noticed here is Hook looked as shocked as those who had genuine reason to have some affection for Rumple despite the complicated ups and downs–yet he spent years dreaming of his death. This is part of the “erasing” of Hook in S2. It is not redemption if they retroactively suggest it was just a slight misunderstanding, really Hook just wanted to give Rumple a hug for putting up with Milah all those years.

ParticipantI don’t mind if he is someone from Emma’s childhood but not someone from the mid-eleven years she now thinks she spent with her kid. She only thinks it but anyone who met her would not know! So moving her city makes sense, as NYC is so big. It makes sense she would not run into people there but Boston? Harder to imagine.
So someone in the last year also works–but perhaps he is an old boyfriend ahe calls to varify that she did not have a kid five years ago when she knew him to back up what Hook says when she goes to question him or he stalks her. He meets her and confirms that, and she is now starting to lose it.

ParticipantAnother possibility–Black Fairy is in the Land without magic and is a S4 reveal?
