Reviews, theories, and talk about ABC's Once Upon a Time TV show
I don’t think that Bae kissing Rumpel would work. The love between a child and parent is pure, sure. But it’s not necessarily “true love”. It’s evident that Regina loved Henry in her own way, but her kiss would not have revived him. So there is a limit to how the parent/child “true love’s kiss” works.
It also assumes that at no time Rumpel kissed Bae during the time after receiving the curse. I know it was another time and parents might not have shown affection for their children like they do today, but it implies that there was no kiss goodnight or at any other time. Plus, it’s possible, as hinted at, that Bae wasn’t in fact Rumpel’s, making the parent/child “true love;s kiss” moot.
I’m curious to know if the “true love’s kiss” has to be an actual kiss or if it can manifest it some other way, like laying their life on the line for someone they love. What I mean is Charming took an arrow to break the curse/potion that Snow drank to forget. And if that’s the case, then Rumpel might have broken the curse by following Bae.
Finally, and I know these thoughts are a bit jumbled, but there is a matter of when “true love’s kiss” works and when it doesn’t. Snow and David kissed for half the season with no affect whatsoever. So there has to be more to the “true love’s kiss” than simply kissing someone. Especially since the Savior (Emma) has managed to kiss two different people (Graham/Huntsman & Henry) and break the curse for them.
