Marty McFly
ParticipantSo I know I’ve talked about Jessica Jones quite a bit in here over the past few months, but I thought I’d just leave these two quotes here. Because they might (are) relevant. Like a lot.
“Saving someone doesn’t mean unkilling someone else.” — Jessica to Kilgrave, Jessica Jones
“You don’t get credit for doing the right thing for the wrong reason.” — Jessica, Jessica JonesI started watching that btw
But now I am into ouat season 1… i just finished desperate souls. It is interesting to note that the one episode where we see elections, and the same episode where we see henry claim that good cant win because good PLAYS FAIR, and where heroes like emma expose an illegal fire and WIN, is the same episode where in the ef, the peasants were so down trotted that the only option was so sell their soul to the devil if they wanted to save their child…[adrotate group="5"]Marty McFly
Participantso on my rewatch of season 1, i stumbled across episode 4 with cinderella.
I will not even go into all the beautiful parallels (henry jumping out of the back seat just like Neal did etc.)
but there was another foreshadowing that I didn’t notice the last time: in the EF Rumple tells cinderella that in order for him to help her go to the ball, she will owe him a favor. favor.
weird.
that’s exsactly what he wanted. not the baby but a favor. (that emma should have Bae talk to him) that whole episode was an obvious foreshadowing. it was almost babyish. it was so obvious that Rumple KNEW he will be imprisoned by snow and charming etc.Bae/Neal is so big in that show, it is just wow. why oh why did Hook ever come to this beautiful story? why? just to ruin it…
by the way my last post was from http://oncereflections.com/rumplestilskinmr-gold-the-real-hero/#.VoSiAtBV_fU.tumblr
its from the first season but it is SO WORTH THE READ!!!!!!!oh, yeah, and happy new year 🙂 and Hook probably poisoned everyone with love potion from his bottle of rum (which Pan gave him – i said it first)
Marty McFly
ParticipantHook is the antithesis of rumple
Right from the very beginning of the show, we already get the feeling that Rumple is:
1) Honest
2) kind
3) Wants to defeat evil
4) Believes that love is strength
5) Very polite
6) Very, very powerful
Honest, because although no one will admit it, everyone trusts him. they know that if they agree on a deal he WILL hold his end of the bargain
Kind, because he gave Emma the walker-talkie toy so she can spend time with Henry, he paid for Henry’s necklace (the one that protected him from the fiery room -Rumple said “this one is ON ME” in other words, magic has a price, but I will pay for this one. He was very poor, but still gave money to a beggar etc.
He wants to defeat evil, because he said that he will take the dagger and use that power for good. His whole curse was one that will “end all curses” by stopping evil people who become dictators to torture the peasants.
He believes, unlike all the TRUE villains in this show, that love is strength. He even bottles love, knowing that it is the most powerful magic.
He is also very polite. He always listens to people even when what they say is painful for him to hear. He treats people with respect even when they barge into his shop demanding things from him.
He is very powerful because he was able to change Henry and Pan’s bodies using the black fairy’s wand and, well, he fought that dark curse internally for generationsSo this is the rumple I know, because I only watched season 1, 2, and half of 3.
Since we first met Hook we already get the feeling that Hook is:
1) Dishonest
2) A bully
3) Wants to defeat good
4) Believes that love is weakness
5) Very sexualized
6) Has no power at all
Dishonest, because he keeps switching sides. He does it so easily, that it’s impossible to trust him at all.
A bully, because he berated a beggar who by mistake bumped into him, making him drop his tin, and bullying a cripple
He wants to defeat good, because when Rumple beats him up on his ship, he provokes him, and, well, he becomes a pirate (ok, this argument is a bit weak, but remember when Pan said that I expected to see more from you- Hook answered “you will”? right after that fight when Pan said “cheaters never win”.. it sounds like there is more to hook than we see)
He asks Archie what Rumple loves what is his weakness, and goes straight for Belle
He flirts with every woman and her mother
And he is constantly bested by everyone on the show
That’s the Hook that I know, since I only watched season 1 till 3.
They are exact opposites.Marty McFly
ParticipantCS is slowly killing the show.
Not so slowly. And I’d personally use a past tense verb there.
CS killed the show.Hear, hear!

Friendly reminder that SOMEBODY sacrificed himself for the town and his love without being the one to have tried to kill everyone in the first place, and while never claiming to be a hero.
I’m a villain and villains don’t get happy endings
Xso I heard. Hook sacrificed himself. *roll eyes* this is exactly what I was afraid of after watching “quiet minds”. I was terrified that Hook will be the one to bring back Neal or something noble like that. well, this is alot WORSE!
you see,
I saw the TV show, and HEARD Rumple call himself a coward, a monster and all sorts of unpleasant names, and at the same time, I SAW Rumple giving his last bit of money to a beggar, save his son from the Ogers war, and give cinderella back her baby in exchange of a “favor”. I also saw him love Belle, and ask August for forgiveness thinking it was his son. and all of this in the first season. it was obvious that Rumple was a much bigger character than just a reformed villian like Regina. and, oh, it was soooooo exciting! that’s why when season 3a came along and we found out more about his father and the suffering he has been through, and then seeing him be the exact opposite of his villain father and make what seemed to be his last sacrifice, the show reached a new level of beautiful. Rumpel’s tragic story was as beautiful as Cora’s karma story.I also saw Hook. I HEARD him call himself a man of honor, with “good form” but at the same time, I SAW him kick a beggar to the ground and hurt an invalid just for fun. so when the fandom suddenly convinced me that Hook is the romantic hero and Neal will leave the show forever… at first I did not believe it. I was laughing at all of you thinking that OF COURSE Neal will come back. when I saw you were right, though. I simply STOPPED watching. and ever since then, I try to unwatch what I saw after pan was defeated. because, as sad as that was, at least it was a good wholesome story. Oh, it was such a heartbreakingly beautiful story…

Participantyou know, after reading some of these things, #heros going to the land of the dead to pick up some dead and bring them home, etc., and it made me ALMOST hope that they might bring Neal Cassidy back. I was ALMOST *thinking* about continuing to watch where I left off…. ALMOST
then I was on twitter because someone said that they pitted Rumple against Hook at the competition of the darkest of them all, and while I was on twitter, I saw the most nauseating clip of Emma and Hook crying. OMG that clip was SO SHOCKING! you know how you sometimes innocently browse the internet and boom! a shocking photo jumps at you and you feel all the food you just ate coming up…?
seriously. seeing Emma with Hook is not for the sensitive viewers! it was the most disgusting thing I ever witnessed. no. I can not subject myself to this kind of torture, I’m sorry. I don’t even WANT Neal to come back to this! And yet, I cant help noticing that they DID pit Rumple against Hook in the “who’s the most evil” contest.
so… If Hook does end up as the MOST evil character, and if all this crap between him and Emma was just another Greg and Tamara story (him and Milah) and he deliberately broke her heart because she was so desperate for love and fell for the first object that came her way and told her he loves her (same as Neal fell for Tamara) then…
THEN maybe I will accept it that Neal comes back and Swanfire live happily ever after.
But Hook MUST be the ultimate evil and the king of all evils for me to even think about subjecting myself to this gruesome show. Also happy Birthday MRJ. You escaped Once just in time before it went to hell. (pun not intended)
thank you, POM it made me laugh!!!

ParticipantI left the show a long time ago, but I still come to this forum every now and then… its a little confusing for me since I have no clue what you are even talking about most of the time, but I watched seasons 1,2 and some of 3 SO MANY times, that I can sort of keep up at least with the old characters even though I don’t know how they changed. (Emma became the dark one? omg! etc.)
Marty McFly
ParticipantEveryone is writing about what they got from ouat so I will chime in.
I got a nice forum with fun participants especially the watcher and wicked regal and many more. I got Puck, my favorite bison. I was introduced to tumblr.
And I got a really good story. I stopped watching a long time ago, but season 1 and 2 and 3a were beautiful! I will always be thankful for that.
NR said that she would have dropped this show faster than they say “character assassination” if not for this forum and this thread. I thought it was funny because the exact opposite happened to me. I came to this thread a second after that terrible scene where Neal died and was emotionally wrecked, but positively sure that he would come back. I would have totes continued watching if not for this thread convincing me that Neal will never ever come back. Even though he wouldnt come back for season 3 finale I would still be sure that season 4 finale would bring Neal back. Or 5 or whatever
I am still sure Neal will be back even now. I am sure Hook will be revealed as the ultimate villain and Rumple as the truest hero and Neal will be back with Emma and Henry (and Regina) but because you guys are continuously convincing me that it will not happen no how no way, I refuse to watch ouat untill the last episode, and I will watch it if AND ONLY IF Neal is back, Rumple is a hero, and Hook is the villain.Marty McFly
ParticipantWow, Jo, read the sequel. And read the other two books. Its definately better than the first two! But you need thefirst two because the story that happens in the next two builds on it 😉
Marty McFly
Participantwhat, NOBODY here read it?
