ParticipantHello, Tim from Canada! I’m from the US, your downstairs neighbor.
my favorite character is also Rumpelstiltskin. he is my favorite, favorite character of all stories ever. and I hate that everyone thinks he is a villain, even he thinks that. or thought that. whatever.
the other characters I like are Regina, Emma and all of them really.[adrotate group="5"]Marty McFly
ParticipantSo, I’m going to be bold and overindulge in my personal shipping optimism: the wedding is going to be Rumbelle’s and here’s why…
this was a nice post with convincing arguments, but you’re forgetting one thing… Rumpel is dead. now, I get that he might only be mostly dead or in some other realm and will need to be rescued, but it’s going to take a whole nother adventure to get him rescued and if the characters have to be fighting the new villain, when will they have time to rescue gold? not this season, I think.

ParticipantIt’s been a very long hiatus. And I’d just love to hear Belle scream her guts out at him. Maybe because I’m mad at Rumple for Belle. For leaving her crumpled in the middle of the street. Mad that she’s going back to Enchanted Forest, her fate sealed in a curse he helped create.
I agree. I am also mad that he left her crumpled in the middle of the street. but at that point he really had no choice. He tried everything he could to stay alive, every loophole he could think of, but Pan always won. what was he supposed to do, let Pan kill her and curse the rest of the town into oblivion? it was terrible that she had to watch him die, but it wasn’t his fault. if he had magic he’d have moved all of them out of the way to some far off location in Story Brooke (like what Cora did to Emma and Neal) and then killed Pan and himself quietly. but Pan already made them a captive audience. and Gold couldn’t tell Pan “hey let’s step away from here, hey let’s go a few blocks down before we die together” he just had to do what he had to do.
when he thought that he’d have to sacrifice himself in Neverland he didn’t bring Belle with him because of that, because he didn’t want her to see him die.
maybe he should have killed pan and himself in his shop, but he was still in the “I have a future with Belle” mode and he couldn’t give that up so fast. so he had to first struggle with the cuff and all that. I think that if he wouldn’t have had his hopes up about staying alive, he would have killed Pan the minute he saw that the cuff is on his hand. he’d have summoned the shadow before Pan left the shop. but it all happened way too fast. just a few seconds ago he thought that he’d won. he thought the cuff worked and Pan was powerless. he thought he had a chance at a future with Belle and his son.
this is why he was still trying so desperately to take that cuff off. it was so sudden, he couldn’t believe it!. he was so suddenly powerless that it didn’t register right away that he is done for.
poor guy.
poor Bellealso. That scene where Belle looks over her shoulder and asks “are you coming?” is very symbolic to their relationship. she was the brave one who sacrificed herself for her family and kingdom, and he followed her with his own bravery. that’s how she made him stronger, by going, then looking over her shoulder and smile her beautiful, inviting smile thus making it easier for him to follow her heroic actions.

Participantmaybe she is just really frustrated that Emma doesn’t believe…

Participantthis is really beautiful, Phee. Henry brought out the best in her. Tink was right. there is good in Regina

ParticipantPicture young Rumple, on Neverland, asleep or crying under the tree. Rumple believed his father was going to leave him. In the next scene, his father casts him away and becomes Peter.
Did papa abandon little Rumple because that’s what Rumple believed would happen?
When older Rumplestiltzkin returned to Neverland, he feared Peter. I always thought that Rumple never believed in himself enough to believe he could defeat Peter Pan, so he never defeated him. Nederland was all about believing. Rumple didn’t believe his partners could defeat Peter either, so they never defeated him.
In Storybrooke, when Rumple was restricted from using his magic, when he had to truly trust and believe in his own strength, that’s when he was able to defeat Peter.this is very VERY interesting!! remember what Gold said on the ship? never land is where imagination runs wild? Oh wow! in SB imagination doesn’t run wild, so real life finally kicked in and Pan lost.

ParticipantI think it’s very telling that the writers chose the summoning of the shadow and the DarkOne dagger to be the way to kill Pan and Rumpel. this is what Bae asked Rumpel to give him so that he would trust him, and he didn’t believe him about the shadow.
BTW if he was able to summon the shadow so easily in storybrooke, why couldn’t he do it in Neverland when Bae asked him for the dagger? just summon the shadow and give him the dagger, no? or was he scared still that Pan will somehow take it from Bae?

Participanthey KFC I missed reading your posts, they are always good and thought provoking.
it’s true what you say about the process of getting from just a selfish git who would rather get high than care for his son to a sadistic evil who would kidnap and kill and play mind games just to torture his son – the only person in the world who still has some feelings of love for him. even though he already convinced himself that he hates him (in think lovely thoughts Malcolm hugs little Rumpel and doesn’t look like he hates him at all)
btw, remembering his favorite breakfast was just another callous insult I think (just like that voodoo doll in the beginning, “hey you thought I loved you? haha!)Marty McFly

I disagree. just because Hook said that about Rumpel doesn’t mean it’s true. Hook is a villain, and just like Regina, he thinks himself better than he really is. he doesn’t admit that he is a villain. but Rumpel is different. he never tried to convince himself that he isn’t a monster. so I really don’t think that the reason for staying in the hovel was to scare people… it’s actually an interesting thought, but I doubt it’s true. I think he stayed there because he thought it would be best for his son to stay around friends (like Maureen sp?) I think his greatest fear, the fear that made him a coward was fear of abandonment or to be alone. and if he lived in a palace his son would be lonelyMarty McFly
ParticipantI always had the feeling that Rumple created Peter Pan by naming that voodoo doll PP. according to Malcolm, names make things real, so by naming himself after the doll gave Peter Pan extra power?
I wonder what would have happened had He killed him in sleep. would Henry die? or would Rumpel be saved?
I REALLY want to know what Pan was about to say when he started saying you changed your– and then he said Oh I see you took away my magic…
changed your – WHAT? -
