ModeratorLook, all I’m saying is that those who did think he was a goner had some very legitimate points not only from an in-show story telling perspective but from an outside perspective as well
There’s something I noticed in the way the show handles death. Whenever the story hypes up the possibility of a specific character dying over a long period of time, they either avoid death or have their death reversed in some sort of fashion in the end. Not only has this happened with Rumple three times, but there was also the plotline with Charming being poisoned by dreamshade. On the other hand, those who actually die for good tend to do so without buildup from a bunch of episodes, unless they’re the Big Bad of an arc and we expect them to die just because that tends to be norm. Now you could argue that Rumple being viewed as the Big Bad of 4B should have foreshadowed an actual death, but the heart ailment shown over the past several episodes made it look too obvious.

ModeratorHonestly, one big reason I never 100% thought Rumple was going to die and leave the show at the end of the Season is because they know losing him would be a huge risk to take. Not to mention, Bobby has a 5 year contract, so going by that logic, he’s still going to be around for at least one more Season. Yes Bobby could have tried asking to leave early, but that was all fan speculation that he wanted to leave in the first place. Some also speculated that they’re planning for Season 5 to be the final Season, so they would have taken the risk. On the contrary, Adam and Eddy recently confirmed that they don’t have a clear ending date and are planning to milk how many more episodes out of this show as they can. This is the third time they’ve cheated Rumple out of death. The first was Snow using the candle to make Cora die in Rumple’s place, the second time was Neal giving his life to resurrect Rumple from the Vault of Eternal Goo, and this time he’s spared from death by having the Apprentice transfer the darkness out of his heart. That should show how reluctant they are to lose the character.

ModeratorNot surprising, Galavant will be the Mid-Season bridge for OUAT again this Season.

ModeratorDon’t think that’s what happened, because when Rumple went to the vault, the dagger went with him. I don’t think Emma died. She just became the new Dark One, and the disappearance was for dramatic effect.
But then where did Emma disappear to, according to your theory?
I said disappeared for dramatic effect. Maybe she’ll instantly re-appear at the beginning of Season 5, or they’ll use the dagger to summon her. If she disappeared to a specific location, I have no clue.

ModeratorSpeculate: where did Emma go?
The Vault of the Dark One.
If Emma did disappear into the vault like Rumple did in S3, that would mean someone must travel to the Enchanted Forest and trade his or her own life to bring Emma back. That was how Neal brought back Rumple.

ModeratorOne thing to keep in mind is that the cast list probably isn’t finalized. Michael Socha wasn’t officially listed in the cast list until after SDCC, if I recall.

ModeratorIt’s official. OUAT will remain on Sundays at 8pm. Also included in the press release is a brief synopsis for Season 5 and the cast list. The synopsis doesn’t give away any new information, so I can post it without spoiler tags:
“ONCE UPON A TIME” (Season 5)
Master storytellers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (“Lost,” “Tron: Legacy”) invite everyone to join Emma Swan, Snow White, Prince Charming, the Evil Queen, Hook, Rumplestiltskin and all the other resident fairy tale characters as they cope with Emma’s new role as the dark one and they begin the search for Merlin.
“Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O’Donoghue as Hook, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Michael Socha as Will Scarlet and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold.
Executive producers are Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Steve Pearlman and David H. Goodman. “Once Upon a Time” is produced by ABC Studios.

Moderator(which begs the question why didn’t Rumple try to suck the darkness out of himself in S4A…?)
I would assume because he didn’t want to lose his powers. He wanted to use the hat to free himself from the dagger, but he wanted to have his cake and eat it too by being able to hold onto his magic.
