Crack theory: Peter Pan is responsible for the Author being trapped in his book. It would explain a number of things. (1) Blue said the Author had disappeared a long time ago. (2) Peter Pan was around for a long time (3) Peter Pan had a picture of Henry centuries before Henry was born. How? Peter Pan got the picture of Henry from the Author.

    Quote

I actually really like this idea, because Pan getting the picture of Henry from the Author would totally make sense, and that would explain why they refused to tell us back in Season 3. Someone actually asked Adam a few months ago, and he replied #NoSpoilers, which could be a hint that it would come up again.

The question is, why did the Sorcerer trap the Author in the first place? Is the Sorcerer evil, or perhaps the Author is evil and that’s why the Sorcerer trapped him? Going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Was going to make this its own thread, but it fits here well enough.

So of course plenty of Ursula’s backstory was based on the original Disney Little Mermaid movie. Ursula having a beautiful singing voice (which she loses), her father Poseidon has a hatred of humans, and they even included the song “Fathoms Below.” However, other elements appear to be blatantly taken from the 2008 direct video prequel “Ariel’s Beginning.” In said movie, Ariel’s mother is killed by pirates, and music is what reminds Ariel of her. Wouldn’t be the first time the writers have borrowed an element from one of the Disney direct to video movies. The fairy Silvermist, who guest starred in episode 2 of Wonderland, is from the Tinker Bell direct to video movies. Granted, of course these similar elements from the Little Mermaid prequel might just be coincidences, but I have my doubts. My guess is, the writers are familiar with the prequel due to their kids watching it in their homes. To learn more about “Ariel’s Beginning”, take a look at the Wikipedia link below:

Though that does leave the question of what happened in the last two months for BB to lose it and have it shrunk down to boot?)

That was explained in the episode. Blackbeard was causing problems in Arendelle, so Elsa shrunk the JR. As for how Elsa can do non ice related magic, that was actually a thing in Frozen Fever, too. As strange as that sounds.

Way better episode than last week. To be perfectly honest, this might be my favorite episode of 4B so far.

    Liked
    – Ursula’s flashback was a lot of fun. True it was ripping off Ariel’s backstory from the film, and even the Direct to Video prequel “Ariel’s Beginnings.” However, I still found it enjoyable. Young Ursula was cute, and my inner child loved hearing her sing “Fathoms Below.”
    – Will and Hook’s exchange about the size of a man’s ship. lol
    – Continuity! So Pan had Hook doing errands between realms to explain why he was back in the Enchanted Forest this early in the timeline. Though I wonder why they didn’t just place the entire flashback in Neverland instead, since mermaids can cross realms and do reside in Neverland, too. They also explain that Ursula was named after the Goddess Ursula, which matches with the established continuity that Ursula is a Goddess who hasn’t been seen in over a thousand years.
    – Snow hitting Cruella with a frying pan.

    Mixed
    – August’s torture. A part of me laughed when they used his nose as a lie detector, but it was still weird and awkward.
    – August felt a little too plot devicey in this episode.
    – So we got more answers about the Author, but the Sorcerer trapping him inside a door is strange.
    – I enjoyed seeing Ariel again, but she was underused and another plot device.

    Disliked
    – They got both Ursula and Ariel in the same episode, and they couldn’t have them interact once. Part of me wonders if Joanna Garcia had limited availability, because they had Poseidon cross realms to talk to Ursula with Hook instead of just using Ariel.
    – Ursula’s happy ending seems to be resolved, so what’s next? Is she done for this half of the Season already, aside from some possible flashbacks? If that’s the case, I guess Ursula at least didn’t die like virtually every other villain on the show.
    – Regina speaking through Snow’s body just came off as weird.
    – This is more in regards to the media than the episode itself, but I feel they overhyped what Hook did to Ursula. I was expecting a death involved, or something.
    – So, there’s three Ursulas now? Regina Ursula, Deity Ursula and now Former Mermaid Ursula. Talk about confusing.

A lot of this flashback would have made a lot more sense had the following happened:

    1) This took place when Regina was already full on Evil Queen and Snow was on the run. Placing the flashback within this time frame would have placed it not long before “The Outsider”, which would match with the timeline. Having this take place during Regina’s apprentice days just doesn’t make sense.
    2) Have Regina find Maleficent, because she’s looking for a curse to use on Snow. She finds out about the sleeping curse, and we see her trade the dark curse for it as previously established.
    3) We had actually seen Aurora sacrifice herself before going under the sleeping curse.

Phil, I don’t have an issue with overall. It’s Aurora. She says in S2 about how taking the Curse was her sacrifice but…that…isn’t what we saw on screen. And I’ll even fanwank away the dress issue since Snow was in bandit clothing when she ate the apple but in her white outfit when Charming woke her (cause apparently the dwarves dressed her…??) But it goes back to what I said above. If we have to start blatantly ignoring past facts in order for the new arc to make sense, this is going to get old right quick.

Not even just that, but the sleeping curse had to be taken willingly. That was probably why they had Aurora say she fell under it as a sort of sacrifice in the first place. We didn’t see Aurora take the curse willingly, as Maleficent simply used brute force to prick her. It was clearly against Aurora’s will, too.
