ParticipantHenry – he may have friends and good memories – but he’s not Henry… all video games, no book, introverted and not socializing. OK – so he is being a normal kid, but Henry wasn’t like that before. He was an old soul in a kids body that still retain his imagination and faith in the unbelievable.
Yes, had a bit of a problem with that too, although not just because of how Henry was before the De-Curse, but more because of how he talked in the episode before this one. There was a bit of the old soul in a kids body when he talked to Emma getting Walsh a chance – and it didn’t sit right with me there. On the other hand, it’s a fake memory. No matter how well intended was what Regina did, I think it might be in result not all different from what happened to everybody when she cast the Dark Curse the first time. They became twisted versions of themselves, in some ways still recognizable somewhat like their Enchanted Forest selves, but twisted, often the least favorite sites of personality taking lead, so to speak. So maybe here we see the less favorites sites of Henry’s personality emerging, lacking the memory of things, which gave him a nudge in a somewhat different direction of personality development.
liked:
Emma in charge. Don’t like all the IMO creepy savior talk, I like her way better as leader. Plain and simple.
Emma and Regina working together. It might be not the least bit reasonable, considering all what Regina did to Emma’s family and her, and still there is some respect between them. If there is any person Regina might respect at all, it is Emma, and despite all what happened, Emma doesn’t simply judge her as an evil which has to answer or be undone. Maybe because Emma has an enviable down to earth and move on attitude, maybe Emma just has to give Regina a chance as long as Henry does, whatever the reason, she tries. What I like about how the show handles it: there is some fight between the two about Henry, but it is not reduced to two women fighting about their son, there are times they fight together for him. I never like the whiny “I’m the victim” Regina, it never sits quite right with me for her character. Emma and Regina working together means, both in practical mode. They get things done, and even if it means sometimes to get hands (a bit) dirty. Not a SwanQueen shipper (though I can see why people are), but I like them working together.
Red / Ruby!!!!! Of course. And not just with some toss away lines. Just enjoy this moment. Despite whatever. Sometimes it’s better to just enjoy.
And what a feast of subtext this episode was. A tease of the good kind, for the fun. Guess SwanQueen fans are still barely breathing, while at the same time we got some good start for Regina and Robin. Yes, I like text that works on more than one level.
Positively impressed how they handled Regina and Zelena as sisters. Very much like, that they didn’t keep it as some big reveal for later. It’s clear, Zelena is Regina’s half sister (and fans can have more hours of speculative fun on the internet, who the father was), revealing enough without revealing too much. Nicely written. Haven’t been that much intrigued by the idea while it was speculation, but I find something in the way they are doing it. Probably it helped a lot, that the banter between them in this episode was so much like how I know it can be between sisters in strained, hate relationship, and still a caricature of it. It was oddly enjoyable (when you got over that kind of stuff and grew up), and at the same time bit of a chill reminder.

pretty much nothing, it was mostly a well written, paced episode, with great scenes and details and setting up some interesting things.Nope, show is not getting me all back, but it’s for the hope of such episodes, that I linger.

ParticipantHaven’t done this for a while, but because it was finally an episode I had fun to watch more than once again, and loved it, not by chance it’s a Jane Espenson episode, here some quotes. Have fun (and as usually, don’t take my commentary serious)
Wicked Witch: Now, that’s how you wear a dress.
(they certainly inherited their fashion sense from their mother. btw, how practically is their method of changing clothes – wooosh! That is maybe even better than beaming between places.)Wicked Witch: I know I look lovely.
(she is a woman in her own rights)Red: Seems like old times, doesn’t it? Except not running from Regina, but with her.”
(so true, like old times, like season 01 old times feelings, like the show is really really back maybe, like Red and Snow being a great team… uhm, sorry, getting sentimental here)Red: If she hadn’t tried to hurt us so many times, I might be worried about her.
(she says it)Regina: I’m always thinking about Henry
(we know, that is part of the problem)Regina: See, not so scary. Now you have a new toy.
(be aware of strangers. just saying)Hook: Almost harvest time, but you can’t remember the planting. That’s bad luck, mate.
(Hooook! Ssssh. This is a Sunday family time show… the mind of a pirate *shakes disapprovingly her head but with a smirk*)Charming (to Snow): Message via bird… that does sound like you.
(Honey, it’s called Twitter actually, and it’s a tweet)Grumpy: We lost another one. We’re down to five now.
(five little monkeys jumping on the bed … or was it ten… okay, would be seven dwarfs here, and merry men, forest not bed … and no head bumping…)Snow: Oz? That is a real place?
(surprise!)Regina: The bookworm’s right. It’s quite real.
(see, it’s good to be a bookworm, nothing surprises us, we know how to handle things)Regina: The Wicked Witch
Grumpy: We talking East or West?
Snow: Does it matter? Neither one sounds good.
Grumpy: One you drop a house on. The other you toss a bucket of water at.
(Belle and Grumpy would make a great team)Charming: So, Regina, what exactly are we up against besides green skin and a pointy hat?
(Charming reads books too!)Charming: What did you do to her?
Regina: This time nothing. Never met her.
(Change! But will change…)
Charming: This isn’t a personal vendetta? Shocking.
(indeed, we’re so shocked. but, wait, deary, some things don’t change on this show)Regina: I don’t care if the lollipop guild is protecting her.
(welcome to Oz)Ruby (to Henry) Lucky guess. You’ve got a… cinnamon kind of face.
(Ruby, let’s hope your smile is more convincing or distracting Henry so he will not wonder much more)Henry: Are you helping my mom with the case? (whispering to Emma) Or are they the one who jumped bail?
(once upon a time in an enchanted forest there was an evil queen, who forced her stepdaughter to live as outlaw, and there was a young fake prince, who fell in love with the outlaw. The evil queen send one of her best hunters…)Snow: We were cell mates.
Henry: Really? What were you in for?
Snow: Banditry.
(like mother like daughter, so to speak)Regina: Why are you here?
Emma: Storybrooke, a new curse, missing year… why do you think?
(for SwanQueen feast maybe? 😉 )Regina: I cast curses to hurt other people, not myself.
(time for confessions)Little John: Its aim is truer than any I’ve seen without magic.
(technology for some is magic)Little John: Speaking of eating, I see dinner.
(bon appetit)Robin Hood: Only missed by a feather’s length. Seems that bow has improved your aim.
(every micrometer is improvement)Hook: You mean the monster you were gonna marry?
(jealous?)Charming (to Emma):You were gonna marry someone?
Hook (to Charming): Did you just miss the part where I said “monster”?
(marry is the the important part here, mate, monster or whatever, his Charming’s daughter was about to m a r r y !)Regina: For once I’m just as clueless as the rest of you.
(for once?)Regina: You think I care about my house? About my job? About any of these things?
(but most people seem to do, status symbols)Archie: Regina, please, just tell us the truth. We’ll understand.
Granny: Speak for yourself!
(fans bickering)Regina: So now you’re siding with the rabble?
(it’s in the family, you know)Regina: I’m innocent
(yeah… no, not believing you, in no way)Regina: If you all want me to be the Evil Queen. Then fine, that’s exactly who you’ll get.
(yes, please!)Regina: No.
Robin Hood: “No” what?
Regina: You’re not.
Robin Hood: Not coming along? I do believe I am. I can help.
Regina: I didn’t ask for help.
Robin Hood: Well, that doesn’t mean you won’t need it.
(true love in the making)Regina: Who knew a thief had honor.
Robin Hood: Who knew an Evil Queen had a soft spot for children?
(who knew there is maybe a future couple talking)Regina: Don’t get in my way.
Robin Hood: Oh. I wouldn’t dream of it.
(of course not. flirting 101)Emma: An earthquake?
Regina: I had to make a statement.
(a moving one)Regina: Maybe this was some super-complicated, ingenious plan.
(it isn’t?)Emma: My superpower may not be perfect, but with you Regina, I always know when you’re lying.
(guess we need some smelling salts for the SwanQueen fandom: Are you okay, maybe want to sit, glass of water? Take a deep breath. And then rewind.)Regina (to Robin Hood): I simply need to put it (the fire) out. You need to stay out of my way.
(no subtext reading here, no, nope… of course)Regina: I may have done bad things in my life, but at least I own it.
(evil, Evil Queen)Robin Hood: It appears the Wicked Witch is a formidable foe.
(we hope so)Robin Hood (to Regina): Clearly you have the touch of a mother.
(getting on the Queens good side, are we)Snow: My God. Did you know there’s something called “cradle cap”? Babies get it on their heads. It’s a crusty , yellow, greasy, scaly skin rash. Seriously! This book uses all of those words.
Henry: Gross. Yes! De-rezzed him
(some Tron here. derez = someone disappearing or dissolving, a program’s equivalent to death, destruction… so Henry makes someone in the game disappear… something for the geeks among us. And, Snow: Yes, books use that many words sometimes, more than 140 signs 😉 )Wicked Witch: Babies are stronger than you think.
(talking about yourself?)Wicked Witch: You were a princes! And some of us were just… supporting players.
(feel like hit by a house, so to speak, video games, supporting players… what level are we on?)Wicked Witch: Helping Snow White with her baby. I can’t think of anything that would make me happier.
(sure)Regina (to Robin Hood): How dare you threaten me in my own castle!
(the first signs of love are so sweet…)Robin Hood: We all get a second chance, Regina. You just have to open your eyes to see it.
Regina: It’s too bad mine will be closed.
(no subtext, no, oh no. oh yes.)Regina: This isn’t an end. It’s an eternal middle. This curse can be broken by the only true love in my life. And the only reason I would even want to wake. My son.
(heart-ripping, uhm -breaking – and so no subtext here)Emma (to Regina): Either that wall did something to you in the past year, or I’m gonna say it didn’t work.
(maybe both?)Charming: Okay, I didn’t see that coming.
(what a surprising twist)Dr. Whale: I’m a doctor not a vet.
(from Tron to some Trek, from programs to the stars)Regina: Is this really what you do for a living?
Emma: Yeah. It’s called a stakeout.
Regina: And you don’t get… bored?
Emma: I don’t know. You find ways to pass time… eat, talk… mostly watch, which is what we should be doing.
(plenty of subtext here, if anyone hasn’t noticed)Emma: Because he may not remember all of this, but I do, and I know what he would say. A hero would come back.
(right, heroes are fools)Wicked Witch: You weren’t even going to say “Hello” first? That’s not exactly the welcome I was expecting.
(life is a witch)Wicked Witch (to Regina): What does a witch have to do to get your attention?
(some of us would like to know as well)Wicked Witch: What’s the matter? Has life got you down?
Regina: None of your business.
(family always meddles, particular this family, you’ll see)Regina: That’s my dress.
Zelena (Wicked Witch): Mm. I had to take it in a little bit at the hips, but… looks better on me, don’t you think?
Regina: I think you never should have left Oz.
Zelena: You can have your castle back if you want it that badly. I was just trying it on for size. Besids I’ve already seen everything worth seeing… your closet, your gardens… your crypt.
(witchy)Zelena: I’m your sister… Actually half-sister, but… details, details.
(yeah, who cares about details besides the hardest of the hardcore fans 😉 )Regina: That’s not possible. You’re… green.
Zelena: And you’re rude.
(sisterly love)Zelena: Cora had me first, before she wormed her way into the dregs of royalty.
(a daughter’s love)Zelena: Enough with the martyr complex, Regina.
(spoken like a true big sister, and true words)Regina: Let me guess… You’re mad because he chose me to cast his curse.
(sisterly rivalry)Zelena: But… despite my shortcomings, I made something of myself, dear. And I didn’t need Cora or Rumplestiltskin.
Regina: Well, it’s too bad they’re not around to see how well you turned out.
(sisterly snark)Zelena: For me to get what I want, I need you to suffer. You see, what’s in store for me is all my dreams being realized. But for you? Well… it’s a fate worse than death.
(you mean like a real life in a modern world not believing in magic and fairy tales?)Regina: Bring it, Greenie.
Zelena: Indeed, I will. (conjures a broom) See you soon sis.
(lovely)Regina: As you said, I just needed to find something to live for.
Robin Hood: And you found it? What?
Regina: The one thing I haven’t had in a very long time… Someone to destroy.
(don’t get your hopes up, and so no subtext to read here, no… yes – come on, didn’t you think, could say as well “being in love” with an adult?)Henry: Storybrooke is a weird place, but cool.
(yup, we all want to move there, don’t we)Snow: They’re being turned into flying monkeys?
Hook: Yes. He took on simian form with the added bonus of wings.
(Hook the smarty-pants, he and Henry should have a good time together)Emma: Wouldn’t be the first flying monkey I’ve dated.
(yup, lady, some luck with your dates)Emma: The Wicked Witch of the West? … Seriously? She’s real too?
Hook: Says the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.
(Hoook! Outch. On the other hand: very true)Emma: I don’t get it. It’s not like we’re in Kansas. Why would the Wicked Witch of the West want to come to Storybrooke?
(to cite the creators of this show: good question)Rumple (to Zelena): You never should have brought me back.
(a matter of point of view)Rumple: You feed the madness and it feeds on you. You feed the madness and it feeds on you. You feed the madness and it feeds on you. (giggles madly)

ParticipantHonestly, it sounds a bit too weird for a CW audience.
You think? I mean, this is the television network of Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Arrow, Beauty @ The Beast, The Tomorrow People and Star-Crossed. To me this show iZombie doesn’t look any more or less weird than any of these shows. It’s in short a supernatural crime procedural. The title might be a bit misleading, from what I read, wouldn’t expect this show to be actually much about Zombies, besides that the lead character is one, it’s more about human drama.
Rob Thomas is no guarantee for being picked up, but his show Veronica Mars lasted 3 seasons, and was a great show (at least for the first 2 seasons). Wouldn’t mind if having a bit of that neo-noir style back on TV, though not said this new project of him will have something of it (but I hope for it).
LOL, one site titled about the casting news: “iZombie casts Once Upon A Time star as dead Veronica Mars”
A supernatural crime show with a female lead, and even more so with Rose McIcver as lead? Count me in, at least would like to give it a try.

ParticipantAm I the only one thinking more “meh”? Sorry, but they failed with Red, and mentioning her and putting her as silent VIP extra into the background doesn’t do it for me. I miss her acting and interacting and not standing around. Sorry. I know, plenty of people might have still nagged, where Red is, but we can wonder as well, where is Tink, and the Blue Fairy, and Cinderella, Ariel, not to forget Mulan … It was mentioned, others showed up in other places, and one can discuss, why who was taken where back in the Enchanted Forest, but that was kinda the one situation when they would have had a good enough explanation for Red (and Granny) not being with the group already. LOL When the explanation would be easy they make it hard on themselves, but still fail to give a good enough reason, why Red was so absent before. I miss the women bonding we had in season 1, that is part of why I am missing Red (and more, but accepting that she is not a major character, so not expecting to see much of her story ever on the show on screen). Nope, I am not all thankful for this dry, lackluster fan cookie.

Participantliked:
the parallels to the pilot, like a riding guy opening the episode (though this time Philip, but again quite a classic location establishing shot), the same music when we first meet Emma, walking into another restaurant, meeting a date, Emma telling Hook in the restaurant nearly what she told Henry in the car on the way to Storybrooke, and then in the end, when they arrive in Storybrooke, quite the same shots. And sure more details for fans to discover.
Hook. Nuff said 😉
questions (besides of course, what’s WW’s thing and how did they get back to Storybrooke):
How is it, that Neal’s apartment still exists including Henry’s camera and the photos? Just doesn’t make sense to me. Nothing big, they needed a loophole, okay, but still, a bit too convenient and in need of a good explanation. No, magic is not enough as reason, that would answer only the how not the why or who/what.
Guess whoever send the message, send the potion to unblock Emma’s memory with it. But who did it? The last time someone needed to get back memory, it was the Blue Fairy making the potion (was it based on what Rumple brewed? Don’t remember that). Just saying. Unfortunately lost a bit of trust thanks to the typewriter disappointment, that we will get a satisfying answer to it.
not that much impressed:
The Wicked Witch. Right, we only saw her for maybe a minute, but the Evil Queen made much more of an impression on me the first time we met her. The similarities to the Evil Queen are intentional, but I am not thrilled. Kinda Evil Queen + Cora squared. A reboot, right, sort of.
disliked:
Please, shut him up. Sorry, but Henry is a pain in the neck. What is it these days about making teenage boys so prematurely wise and understanding and kinda compliant but in a way uptight (although Judicorn from The Fosters is at least really cute). Let them play in the mud and have some fun again and be brats in a childish way. Others have complaint about Henry before, and though I had not much of a problem with Henry being a smart alec and meddlesome so far, it felt wrong this time. Is that Regina’s version of a good kid or what? Suffering the Wesley Crusher syndrome.
So Hood shot Walsh, who attacked Regina and Snow. And monkey man later dates Emma. Normally have not much of a problem with fantasy creatures, but this time I find just the mere thought of Emma dating this monkey, even if it’s a magical, fantasy book one, very revolting, not just creepy. I mean, never have a problem with wolves, werewolves, not even with Gus the mouse, but Emma and this monkey, for 8 months even. Yuk. Guess, discovered a limit in my imagination here. Or in other words: wish for once to have just some innocent, fluffy, romantic, rated PG ideas of what dating means. Even as a human he resembled too much of his fantasy alter ego to be any attractive to think of being with Emma, with anyone. On the other hand: kudos for planting probably the most creepy picture I have ever gotten into my head in my life so far. Too bad for Christopher Gorham though, I might never get over it, no matter in what role I am going to see him from now on.
But Emma can now join a club with the Charmed Ones:”We dated a demon”.

I love Belle. Don’t get my query wrong, I just thought it odd that all the other “Princesses” aside from Milan, who isn’t an princess in the movies or story, are recognized but Belle is not. Belle is one of my favorite characters.I don’t necessarily think that making Belle a princess would make her more or less important. Frankly I hate that everyone is a freakin princess. So it was nice to see Belle was the exception but was still awesome because of her character not because of some title. And also sometimes I wish ONCE wasn’t so Disney like. Being a princess is overrated. I rather be like Mulan.
My thoughts. It’s interesting, that fairy tales seem for many to be mostly about royalty, princesses especially, although not all fairy tales are. Sadly Disney doesn’t quite help with that biased image.
People are not special because of who they are born as but because of what they become and make of themselves. And princess is just a title, nothing special about it.

WR I would think Snow,Charming, Neal and even Hook might have something to say about that for various reasons
#1. Emma is the daughter of Snow White & Prince Charming which makes her a princess by birth therefor I think Charming may have something to say about his daughter dating a winged primate it’s way below her station as a princess from EF Wouldn’t you agree ?
#2 Neal is Henry’s father he surely would not want one of Zelena’s winged monkeys near his son Henry and his true love Emma.
#3 I can’t see Hook liking this set up at all. The question needs to be asked How does Hook know about Winged MonkeysFrom a certain point of view Charming himself is royal fraud, not born royal (as far as we know so far), only replaced his killed twin brother because James’ adoptive father King Georg dearly needed to keep up his charade to economically safe his kingdom – why should Charming have any problem with someone having no princess adequate royal heritage line to offer? He should have some other problems eventually with monkey man, but not being a royal and “beneath” their status is the least likely one. 😉
Very sure Neal and Hook have huge objection against Emma dating anyone else. 😉
Joking apart 😛 😉
Fun! Would like them to do more of this kind of stuff, tasty cookies for the fandom.
Disappearances, deaths – all normal Storybrooke everyday life. But take good care of your truck meanwhile. ROFL They are so very normal people, people like us 😉

ParticipantThe homage to The Wizard of Oz film from 1939 was perhaps the best of this years Oscars show. Pink nailed her song this night.
Not so someone else. As much as I adore Idina Menzel, don’t think it was her best performance this Oscar night. Some think she did good, but she was slightly off at times IMO (it can be a difference though to hear something indeed live or via broadcast). But wait, that wasn’t Idina Menzel on stage, right, that was some Adele Dazeem (who has a Twitter account, if you’re looking for updates on this new musical talent). LOL No idea what verbal acrobatics Travolta was doing there, but can they please refrain in the future from bringing him on stage as presenter?!
Whoopi Goldberg’s little beat with the stocks and shoes was cute. And, Ellen as Glinda: Glorious.
Was interesting that this homage was embeded in the overall hero theme of this show. Right, heroes was the theme of this 86th awards show, if you haven’t noticed, but it was possible to miss it. The montages they did were some huge reminder, how lopsided the hero idea is still realized in Hollywood, the majority of heroes was and still is white men. Overdue to change that -more movies with women and people of color as protagonists and heroes, and maybe as well some movies exploring different kind of heroes – a hero doesn’t need a gun or sword or fancy martial art moves to be a hero, see Dorothy. And yes, you can even make money with that stuff and get merits, see Gravity. Cate Blanchett said it (and I love her for most of her speech, but loved her before, and am aware it was a bit of walking on egg-shells for her considering the situation with W. Allen).
Anyway. Good that at least a show like OUaT is around offering some different ideas on heroism.
