I LOVED Spike so I love the similarities and some have said that Hook is also like Sawyer from Lost…I loved both but I would eventually realllly like one of the guys I love to finally get the girl! (At least the one I want them to be with, ha!)

MysteryKat25ParticipantHaven’t seen it yet but hoping to eventually. They had a review podcast of it the other day, should be in the feed / on the website (the first part is non-spoilery, then can shut it off when it gets to the further discussion – they’ll warn you) and it sounds good.
I think it’s probably more a kids movie (unless you’re very into Oz) but from my understanding since they can’t use a lot of the stuff from the original movie they pulled in more things from the books (which is awesome cause I really need to read those) and obviously characters are different because this isn’t the Dorothy story we all know and love.

MysteryKat25ParticipantIt seems to be like it’s a completely new place to us and that therefore the kingdoms are completely separate (they mentioned that Eva was a visitor from the northern kingdom I think?)
What would be interesting is if Cora somehow loses out on the succession: somebody overtakes Xavier’s kingdom, somebody finds something out about her and they’re tossed out, etc etc. Then she sees that the bratty girl from the northern kingdom has married Leopold and is happy and has everything she could possibly want as queen while Cora and Henry are just cast aside.
Cora can spin straw into gold so it can’t be a monetary thing but she desperately wants Regina to be queen someday (which is why she named her Regina – latin for Queen) and somehow that wasn’t happening where it should have (in Xavier’s kingdom) so for some (hopefully good) reason she plots to have Regina take over Eva’s spot instead. There better be more to it than the girl tripped her.
Perhaps Leopold and Eva visit occasionally and there’s more bad blood between them all and Leopold / Eva (is there a name for this?) are clearly happy and everything is going their way and Cora becomes more and more bitter (she doesn’t have her heart at this point, never loved Henry, Xavier is controlling things, etc etc).
Something has to push her over the line to shift from the succession she believed Regina was promised and going to take over Eva’s spot. Distant relations for succession would be interesting but I really think they’re in 2 different kingdoms which just adds lots of questions. You’d think it would have been easier to just bump off the people in front of Regina in line for the throne rather than take off for a different kingdom just to get revenge so it’s gotta be good, right?

MysteryKat25ParticipantVery good point ItachiIshtar! That would make a lot of sense and it would give us some insight into the whole “how do these characters address the fact that other versions of their stories (and inaccurate ones to their minds) exist in the real world and that people know of them” thing. That’s something I’d certainly want to see (we’ve seen David mention that he read Alice in Wonderland as a kid – SB memory I know but still, but we haven’t actually seen anybody say they watched a movie or read a book about themselves. Emma recognized the idea of Captain Hook etc but it would be awesome to have somebody (even if it’s NealFire Pan) explain what that is like.)
Nothing like running away and telling the world your name is Peter Pan, rofl!

MysteryKat25ParticipantgermanPearl – Didn’t Belle wake up from a nightmare in his bed looking around for him wondering where he was?
I think with this show they try to tease that kind of thing but not be too overt (ok we had Emma & Henry walk in on Snowing and then there was that whole James & Jacqueline thing) but I think they try to be more subtle most of the time and I coulda sworn that Belle woke up once looking around wondering why Rumple wasn’t with her. Or am I totally fangirling and imagining that scene?? (Not that it definitely implies anything mind you, we know nothing of specifics with that regarding Belle, just throwing that out there).
Either way I think that Rumple will probably have to get her to fall in love with him again (and will want her to, I don’t think he’d settle for any version of Belle in any way if they didn’t love him) and that once they’ve re-fallen in love then the kiss will work (I hope *fingers crossed*)
It didn’t work with MM & David but they constantly had the Kathryn angle over their heads so they probably didn’t let themselves give into it 100% (though they certainly tried with all the sneaking around). They probably came close but not close enough. Here’s hoping that …ok what’s the Rumple / Lacey thing for the time being? can make it work so that we get our RumBelle back!

MysteryKat25ParticipantI’ve always loved the Scarecrow. 🙂
I think it typically gets ordered in the way that we met them: we spent the most time with the Scarecrow, some time with the Tin Man, and not as much with the Cowardly Lion and I always seem to put them in that order. I adore the Scarecrow, though the Tin Man was awesome too – very sweet (Tin Man was a great mini-series by the way if anybody’s interested: think modern-day SyFy (I hate that spelling, it should be Sci-Fi) sequel with a twist but it has a LOT of nods to the original movie, not as familiar with the books, I still need to read them).
Speaking of reading I’m convinced that this show is prepping us for all the stories we’re going to have to tell to our children, grandchildren, etc etc because a lot of these I apparently skipped over as a kid but it’s making me want to dig deeper and find not only the movies but the source material too. And they say TV doesn’t teach anything…it’s getting people of all ages to go back to reading fairy tales!
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
MysteryKat25ParticipantItachiIshtar – that would be interesting.
The only thing about it is that we’ve seen that Rumple wears many hats (so to speak) so it’s not too big of a stretch to think that his son might as well. Who knows who else he’s got thrown in there (based on the idea he’s been running for a long time and may have stopped elsewhere too, we don’t know yet).
I can see both sides, he’s interesting enough as he is right now but at times there’s a lot of ‘like father like son” stuff so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s somebody else “important.”
Either way can we get to Neverland and answer some of these questions now?!? pleaseeeee
AngieBelle – I sent in an email to the podcast addressing the name thing: it would make sense that if Bae is on the run from his dad that he change it (way too unique a name) and that with every realm change he might change it again to have the trail stop. If anybody who knew who he was before came looking for that name, the name changes would make sense and if Peter were discovered to be Bae it would explain changing it to Neal Cassidy (which has Peter Pan references in it apparently) when he came to our world. If I were on the run with a unique name I’d keep changing it every time somebody figured out who I was too.

MysteryKat25ParticipantKFChimera – agreed on all counts (and I love your name! not sure if I’ve mentioned that!)
As I just posted in another thread, I think the writers enjoy putting parallels into both the SwanFire & CaptainSwan relationships to Snowing especially and people see what they want to see which is why some only see the parallels in one pairing and some see it in both.
I think they do this for 2 reasons:
1. It gives everybody something to like (the shippers are VERY divided over this clearly but it gives us all moments to hold onto)
and more importantly…
2. It needs to evolve organically: we need to be able to BELIEVE that Emma would fall for whoever, or might legitimately be torn between the two. I firmly believe before they throw her with anybody, even if it’s just a brief fling, that we’ll be shown something specific / direct that makes us understand because Emma is the least likely person to forgive and believe in somebody right away (part of what scared her so much with Hook and why she tied him up saying she wanted to trust him but couldn’t take a chance she was wrong about him). She’s also much more strong-willed than MM was with the Dr. Whale thing so I don’t see her going down that path either.
Emma’s love life isn’t her primary focus and it’s gonna take a lot to move her in that direction when so many other things are going on. I’m sure we’ll get many adventures involving various people along the way because it’s just not the most important thing going on right now. She makes a great team with both of them and I can’t wait to see more of that so we have more to go on.
Jane Espenson said in her interview yesterday (it’s posted around here somewhere) that she gets the same amount of feedback from the audience loving Neal & hating Hook as she does loving Hook & hating Neal. The audience truly is very split on this (which I totally understand as I am torn occasionally) which means that for everybody out there who hates something with a passion, there is someone else who loves it. It’s a good way to get people invested in the show and trust me I know what it’s like to be on the losing half of that, but I do love the journey we’re on and the chance to see it play out, whichever way they go with it.
Right now we don’t have all the information. We haven’t seen the entire story play out. There’s more to EVERY character on the show than we’ve seen already and some of the things we learn along the way may drastically change how we feel about various people. The thing I loved most about Lost (and now Once) is the characters who CHANGED MY MIND. There were many I didn’t care for at first I ended up loving and vice versa. I’m curious to look back someday and see what we were all saying about various characters along the way and where we ended up.
For now let’s enjoy the ride and just agree:
we all want the best for Emma, whatever that may be.Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
MysteryKat25ParticipantThanks so much for linking that obisgirl!
One of the thing that cracks me up about Emma tying Hook up constantly is it reminds me so much of the Charming trapping Snow in the net. Emma is very much like her parents but taken to an extreme and it’s cute. Plus she only tied him up the first time because she was afraid of herself trusting him too much, there were extreme feelings in that moment that she was afraid of (I think people skip that part of the dialogue a lot).
Definitely lots of parallels with the other big couples on the show (most importantly Snow). I know many use the thief thing as a parallel but Neal isn’t the only thief in town, we have a pirate too! (I have a feeling they really like putting in parallels with both pairings to keep their options open and let whatever grow naturally and people see what they want to see and both have logical lines. That being said I *realllllly* want Captain Swan!
We need more CaptainSwan interaction pronto!

MysteryKat25ParticipantI think I saw something about them having popups on them with trivia or something but not positive. Did anybody else hear something like that?
