Great pics! Haven’t had a chance to read through most of this just skimming and I love the gaming pics but did anybody grab the one with just Josh & Colin? Saw it on Tumblr – Colin’s wearing a Luigi hat and is ridiculously adorable (he is SUCH a nerd and I love it!).
That CaptainSwanFire interview earlier was just too cute! Seriously, as much grief as I give to Neal in relation to Emma, MRJ is awesome (and occasionally adorable like in that interview) and I love the 3 of them interviewing together. This needs to happen more often! Love that they all get along really well and are good friends!
Best. Cast. Ever!

MysteryKat25ParticipantIt’s possible though it will have to be a good explanation as to why Henry is SO special that he still ages there. They’ve made him special already since his picture was there long before he was born, but I’m not sure if they will go beyond that and bend the rules of NL that they’ve set up so far. If they do, I expect it to have a good explanation and it’s a possibility, I just don’t see it as that likely as of this time.
So the problem I had with it wasn’t really the possibility, but the jump that a lot are making in saying that’s how it’ll be explained because we know NL time passes faster than it did in FTL (which seems to run side-by-side with SB).
I fully expect the people in SB to think that the others have only been gone for a short time while they’ll feel like they’ve been gone for awhile, but I’m not comfortable with making the leap that that’s how they’ll explain Henry aging just yet.
There will be a lot of stuff regarding Henry being special to PP and that may be one of them, but just saying that time passes differently isn’t enough *right now* when the place where time goes by faster is also the place that’s been set up to have people never age.
If it were a different world involved and a character said they were there for a few days and everybody else said 1 day then I’d be ok with it and accept that the person grew up faster because they were in the world where time goes by quicker. I just have an issue with it because of it being Neverland. *right now*
If Henry is special because of this that and the other and can age I’ll be fine with it as long as it makes sense, but I’m not sure how they can do that just yet and not have it just seem like an easy cover-up for the actor aging, though they may have to as he does seem to have grown a lot over the summer so we shall see.
I agree that Dylan probably grew before they started filming a lot of his stuff so he should be alright, but we know that even if it’s not obvious with him, they still can’t make that exception because otherwise Neal wouldn’t be around today so it’s more a suspension of disbelief than anything. If they address one, it’s hard not to address the other when the same problem is in play, but it could happen I suppose.
I’m open to whatever we haven’t seen yet because it usually does have a good explanation (and twists and turns we never even guessed!), I’m just saying right now I’m having trouble making that leap with how the world has been presented so far. If they made a time jump in SB and said he was a few months older that’s one thing – going to a land where nobody ages and then making him age/be super special to where he defies the natural laws of that land I’m going to need to see on screen with a good explanation is all.

MysteryKat25ParticipantAs a writer myself I can tell you it just does NOT work that way. To get to the level of detail these writers do, it takes a LOT of time to plan out such elaborate stuff (especially when we can go back and find that various background props were there all along or that a line was foreshadowing something else).
It would be great if they had everything already on paper for the entire season but last season didn’t finish all that long ago and they’ve been breaking stories as fast as they can I’m sure.
It takes a lot of prep time to figure out complicated stuff (and remember, they know a LOT more about the timeline than we do that they have to take into consideration).
Therefore they can’t just whip the scripts out or it’ll all fall apart. They HAVE to plan it with as much detail as they can and a lot of knowledge of what’s to come in the future even if it doesn’t affect the script they’re on currently just so that they don’t mess up stuff for the future.
With how much we analyze and overanalyze every little thing and have to ask them to clarify, imagine what would happen if they just didn’t bother and made it up as they went along without any idea of what was supposed to happen.
They’ve probably been plotting out the majority of the season the last couple of months and are just now getting to the specifics of how it has to happen for each episode to work.
Once you have a clear idea of where things need to end up, it’s a lot easier to figure out those little details along the way. SO much easier than trying to go back and rework everything once you come up with a brilliant idea for where it needs to end up and how much would it stink if you came up with a great idea for the ending and then had to go back and rewrite every script you wrote that summer to make it happen, instead of planning them all out in the first place and then writing them in detail closer to the deadline?
As much as I want episodes NOW, it’s a long process and they’re doing the best they can so that we can have such an awesome show that has lots of layers to it. If it were another type of show maybe they would have already, who knows, but it’s not.
Even if they had every script ready to go, you still only get the actors and the crew together for a limited time to put everything into place and you’d still only get a certain number of episodes as ordered by the network, so it doesn’t really matter all that much when the scripts get in as long as they have something to shoot off of for the first one when everyone shows back up and they’ve done that and will continue to crank out scripts in the meantime.
So please, cut them some slack. This is how TV writing works. It would be awesome if somebody presented every single script ever for a series to a network before it ever began and they could spend forever perfecting it ahead of time, but that’s not how it works with serialized stuff. It’s a credit to them that they plan out as far as they do and then go back. We’ve seen a few problems with that, but not as many if they were flying by the seat of their pants with every single script. Things are planted in episodes where we don’t even pick up on the significance until later and then realize it was there the whole time. That’s good story-telling.

As for the other episodes with heart in the title, they have all been important episodes where something big has happened. I responded with the list because 1×07 was not the “last” time heart had been in the title which was the question asked. I do agree that it has a connection to this one simply because it was referring to a heart that was taken / wanted for some reason (we don’t know why PP needs Henry’s heart – control, a powerful curse, what?), but I liken it more to 1×02 The Thing You Love Most, simply because that one was, in fact, about a heart that was needed.
1×16 Heart of Darkness had stuff with Snow’s inner turmoil (something we’re bound to see again thanks to her dark spot affecting her current judgement and wanting to do things the right way from now on), and Queen of Hearts was about Cora yes, but it also had Snow & Emma fighting to get back to Henry and taught us about Emma’s magic/her heart not be able to be taken etc. – things that are bound to come up again very early on this season if not in the premiere.
As for RH – I’ll be sad if he is recast but he’s pretty much the only one that they can do that with because he didn’t get much chance to develop as a character so whoever takes on the role will give us that opportunity to get to know RH and will become that character for us. Everyone else has gotten way more character development and is kinda too late to change them. It’s sad that the scheduling didn’t work out, but it’s tough months in advance to say “yes this guy would be great for the 10 minutes we need this year but can you make sure he doesn’t work again for a few months because we might need him again but we’re not completely sure when yet.” – it just doesn’t work like that.
We’ve lost a lot of awesome background characters to other projects because they are wonderful actors and deserve to be in bigger roles and OUAT can’t tie them down for mere minutes here and there. A) Not in the budget B) Even if the budget were unlimited and they could afford to have every single character be seen and barely heard, 99% of the actors would not be satisfied with that – look at Meghan, she knew she was being backburnered and took the option to go star on another series even though she loves OUAT. The actors want to act and be seen and there simply isn’t enough time for them all to be starring and have lots of camera time.

MysteryKat25ParticipantKids age, it happens.
Time passes at a faster rate in NL yes so when they get back the people in SB might think it’s been a week and it could have been a month to the people in NL but nobody ages in NL (otherwise Bae wouldn’t be alive and neither would Hook) so I seriously doubt they’ll add it into the story in any way. It would be rather impossible to since the whole point of anybody being in NL was that they didn’t age (it’s why we couldn’t meet Henry’s dad until they got the rights to use NL to explain how Bae was still alive after all this time, it’s why Hook went to NL in the first place to get enough time to plot revenge on Rumple – it just can’t happen unless they make Henry some bizarre exception that defies the laws of everything we’ve seen so far.)
The age thing has always been tricky with this show, what with people being frozen in time and not aging essentially, but with regards specifically to NL, it may just have to be a suspension of disbelief thing because Jared is aging even though Henry isn’t supposed to be (for however long they’re in NL, SB was never an issue thankfully).
Hopefully they don’t spend too much time in NL if it becomes an issue as it will be harder to believe but it’s just one of those things. I don’t see how they can get away with saying that Henry aged however long NL felt like vs nobody else has ever aged while in NL (within the show to keep things OUAT canon). It would have to be some Henry-only exception. (Which isn’t impossible given that we know he’s special and PP wants him but we don’t know why – I’m just saying right now, with everything canon we’ve seen so far, it would have to have a really good explanation and not feel like a cop-out just because the actor is aging. We’ll have the same issue with Dylan for NL flashbacks with Bae but we know Bae didn’t age either…)
Perhaps soon after they return Henry will get a birthday party (that his parents can be a part of this time – I hate how he all of a sudden was 11 and Emma didn’t get to celebrate with him! There was no mention or anything of her being gone when it happened if that’s when she was in FTL etc, he was just 11 when she was back).

MysteryKat25ParticipantI’m inclined to agree that it’s Henry as well. He’s been through so much already so I’m worried about him (though I’m sure they’ll rescue him eventually). I hate seeing the word “heart” thrown around though for sure (something big always happens in a heart-titled episode!).
I expect it to be more general for a premiere though and cover more than 1 character (especially since they’re in different worlds now so was invisioning more like season 2 with SB and present-day FTL) but perhaps it will be a line that explains what PP is after and the focus is somewhat on Henry simply because the majority of the main cast are focused on getting him back. Still, HENRY!
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
MysteryKat25ParticipantThey made a distinction with Alexandra and Henry. Henry would have been left all alone because the curse would have wiped out everybody not of this world and even though Alexandra was born in SB, she was conceived in FTL and Adam clarified that on twitter and said that was why Henry would have been alone.
So, hypothetically if Tamara is RH’s daughter, she would have been wiped out too and isn’t 100% from our world. I don’t think they lied in either instance though so it makes me hopeful maybe she isn’t RH’s daughter after all. (Which would be my preference). I’m not sure how they could have said she’s just human if she were in any way connected to FTL through birth, especially after clarifying the thing with Alexandra (thanks for reminding me of that!). Adam could have said they just didn’t mention her and that Henry would have been alone in Regina’s eyes because all of his family would have been gone etc etc and that really Henry would have had to take care of Alexandra all by himself, but Adam said Alexandra was conceived in FTL so it made her different per the failsafe trigger so I would think the same would be true of Tamara and her humanness. It’ll be interesting to see how they approach that though. I really don’t think they lied so I’d like to think that they’re consistent about it and they’ve said repeatedly she’s human.
That being said I think for sure something happened to her (similar to what happened to Owen) and that magic has affected her life in some super tragic way, but this does raise the issue of how is she just a person who is part of this organization if she’s related to (and in existence in some form or another) in FTL prior to coming to our world?

MysteryKat25ParticipantThings change as time goes on. They may have originally not planned on using him much and brought in the actor as a brief guest star and then things changed in the writer’s room and they decided they needed much more of the character than the actor was willing to commit to. 🙁
I know they’ve said before they didn’t want to recast anyone but it sounds like this was an actor decision and they needed the character. It’s a bummer for sure but thankfully he was only in a little bit and isn’t a major player (as of yet). Other shows have done this as well when a character changes direction and they need something else or the actor isn’t interested/doesn’t have the time.
The show is an ongoing thing and constantly evolving. They don’t even have the whole season’s worth of scripts so they can’t get the actor around for a long time, even spacing out when the stuff even airs (and they didn’t plan to focus on RH last season as he was only needed for 1 episode) and the focus was seemingly on Neverland (and I think still will be).
It’s very sad and I’m curious to see who they put in the role as I liked Tom Ellis as RH, but I’m sure we’ll love whoever takes his place as we’re also still getting to know the character, whereas replacing others would be an issue. We saw RH so briefly that we didn’t get a chance to really care about the character all that much so he’s one of the few they’d be able to replace without much of an issue. Other characters got a lot more development even if they only had 1 episode and are far more memorable. I’m excited to have RH be in it more, though I wish Ellis had been able to continue. Better to do it now though then later on if we’re going to be seeing more of him and he becomes important.
I think he’ll have to be important if they are bothering to recast but feel like they have to have him in there. Otherwise I feel like if it were just for a few scenes they would have found a time to make it work. Doesn’t help my “please don’t be related to that awful awful person” wishes, but we’ll have to see how it plays out I guess. Bummer.
Was really hoping we’d just focus on NL and it wouldn’t be an issue but if he relates to Tamara then I’m all for getting her story out of the way pronto.

MysteryKat25ParticipantUpdate on links in posts: it hates using the link button to code. Just copy the link you want to the post, no renaming/titling it, no clicking on the link button, just copy the link you want straight into the post. Otherwise it turns invisible and doesn’t register.
Also…now posting takes you back to page 1 again, or at least that has been my experience on posts with over 100 pages in the thread. The smaller threads usually take me to my new post but in the long threads redirects me to page 1.
