INCREDIBLE VIDEO
A few seconds in….is that?….in that episode?….I think it’s…*faints* it’s the tongue thing!
THIS IS NOT A DRILL. She does the tongue thing before turning to face Hook to go climb the beanstalk. It’s in Tallahassee! (I posted this on tumblr just now as well but HAD to share this! Incredible video & new meaning to their journey in that episode!) This is why I love rewatching everything once we have a new chunk of information aka new season or in this case mini-season. I haven’t even started a rewatch yet but that video was incredible and then it hit me with the parallel to the end of 3×11. *falls over*

Just want to let you guys know that even though I haven’t been posting as much I’m still keeping up with the thread and loving the enthusiasm!
Some of these gifsets are just killing me and I’m doing tons of little metas on tumblr. I’m mostly hanging there right now. I just don’t want to see anything negative or mean or depressing. I want to think happy thoughts and analyze and have fun with it! I tend to do a bunch of metas and graphics reblogs. Sorry I’ve been horrible at dragging the various things over here but I know at least a few of you I see on there as well!
As depressing and devastating as 3×11 was (and how painful it’s gonna make re-watching the pilot!), I came out of it with a LOT of hope for basically everything I love about the show (which is…basically the show). The hiatus is gonna be painful but come March we should have a lot more Pilot callbacks too with Hook trying to get Emma to come with him to help save everyone! S1 Henry feels! (and parallels, there should be lots and lots of parallels!)
The Princess Bride moments and Star Wars moments just…*faints & adds parallel moves to hiatus watch list*
I know I saw the Princess Bride gifset over here for sure and the shots are almost identical (minus the hand messing with the hair over her ear but Killian doesn’t have that hand! *sniff*).
The Han/Leia stuff I blogged about but in short: “I know” became “Good” and *tries True Love’s Kiss” became “Someone who loves you.” Perfection. Han even asks “Who are you?” as he’s struggling to figure out who it is because he can’t see and she has the mask on so her voice is weird but he asks and then gets that answer. Emma asks and eventually, we get to the attempt at TLK which shows he loves her because he believes in it and it only failed because she doesn’t have her memories (poor thing probably doesn’t know that but he won’t give up hoping / trying to win her over and get her memories back. I have faith!)
I’m still hunting for the gif I saw (I reallllly need to start just saving & organizing things) of the kiss because she totally leans into it and closes her eyes like it’s the most natural thing in the world (and it will be). There’s one gif that stops before she opens her eyes and literally if you stop it there it looks like she is more than ok with kissing him and has done it a million times. As much as I would have loved for it to not change directions and instead have worked and turned into an epic kiss, I’ll take the Snowing parallel any day!
She also LICKS HER LIPS and is visibly affected by the kiss and then shrugs it off. Oh and uh, the look of shock where her mouth drops open when she opens the door? Kills me every time. She’s searching his face so hard to recognize him. *sniff*
So many other things I’m sure I’m forgetting right now, I feel like I’ve been meta’ing/reblogging almost non-stop since it aired, but there’s just so much wonderful stuff to notice! Haven’t dared rewatch the pilot yet, it took so much out of me to rewatch Going Home but looking forward to analyzing it alongside 3×11 and then 3×12. Is it March 9th yet? *taps foot impatiently*
Glad to see so many new faces hanging out in the CS thread! I’m sure many lurk too *waves* – so happy to see this beautiful ship growing. 🙂

I still how no idea how they were connected in the first place, but hopefully we get that answer. As for Bobby’s vacation, I feel like they work around that usually AND we have a longer time frame before the show comes back so I would think it would be fine…hopefully we see him soon though for sure!
There is just no way he’s gone. We haven’t finished the B&tB storyline yet and they have to give us AT LEAST that much (and frankly, much much more)! We’ve just seen the most devastating part of the movie, but that means the wonderful part is coming up soon! LUMIERE! Man I miss Jerry Orbach. He was perfect. Can’t wait to see who is playing this one and how they fit into the story! I may or may not be bouncing off the walls. It sounds like we will definitely be getting some younger Belle backstory, yay!
Seriously excited about Lumiere though. My favorite screencap from 3×12 is Belle and Beast sitting on the dining room table, Mrs. Potts & Chip off to the left, and Cogsworth & Lumiere off to the right (in object form, of course). I loved the nod and was afraid that’s all we’d get but it sounds like we’re getting a Lumiere! Though…apparently the people this time are associated with Belle instead of the Beast?
Since a lot of this is RumBelle-related I’ll leave this here as I wanted to share this with you as well. Not saying it’s what WILL happen, but I thought it was a lovely headcanon and would at least spawn some GREAT fic ideas. I’ll be a little disappointed if it doesn’t happen now though so I’m sharing it for some joy of a beautiful idea, not to get people’s hopes up & then be disappointed! Check out at your own risk! I’m sure some of you have seen tumblr stuff or someone may have brought these over to the RumBelle thread but I don’t venture over there often (even though I love them) so thought I’d share just in case. Sorry for the feelings I’m sure they’ll spark but hope they help in some way too. We’re nearing the miraculous part of their story, I’m sure of it! And as Jo said, he has to become mortal eventually so that everyone doesn’t outlive him so now’s as good a time as any. Plus the whole redemption thing – it’s kinda what helps him change in the movie in a way since he redeemed himself enough to be loved/mourned by Belle so…we’re getting there!

Ok, maybe I missed something but is Hook trying to do the true love kiss on Emma, like David did to Snow?
Yes! It’s almost exactly like Heart of Darkness when Charming is convinced that he can fix Snow’s memory problem with a True Love’s Kiss and it doesn’t work. It’s only after his actions that Snow realizes he can back up his words and then the kiss finally works!
SOOOO many early FTL flashback Snowing feels right now! Those first few Snowing episodes are why I fell in love with the show in the first place! I was a mess after someone on tumblr pointed out that Hook saying he’ll think about her every day is almost the identical wording from Charming’s letter to Snow.

Dearest Snow.
I’ve not heard from you since our meeting and can only assume you found the happiness you so desired, but I must let you know not a day goes by that I have not thought of you. In two days time I am to be married. Come to me before then. Come to me and show me you feel the same and we can be together forever. And if you don’t, I will have my answer.
Both were said before the memory loss and failed TLK attempts but…like mother, like daughter! As if there weren’t enough Snow Falls/Tallahassee feels & watching the guys lives change big time in The Shepherd/Good Form, now we have 7:15am & Heart of Darkness with GOING HOME which also has major Pilot stuff including Henry coming to get her to get her to believe. Seriously cannot wait for 3×12 when I expect more Pilot & Henry/Hook parallels! (And I just need my show back, desperately.)

That was really heartbreaking but I’m sure they’ll be reunited somehow! I think this episode had people like Regina making a HUGE sacrifice to show that they’ve redeemed themselves and in a way, sought to undo the damage they caused. It doesn’t erase everything but it was a huge step in showing that they’ve changed for the better.
As heartbreaking as it was for Regina, I really love the callback to pilot where she told Emma “this is my gift to you” but instead of ruining Snowing’s wedding, it was giving Emma happy memories. I assume she left a piece of herself in there in the form of having his name be kept the same as well. (I know many wondered how Emma would somehow think to name him Henry since that was a Regina thing but I’m pretty sure she put that thought in there somewhere). Lana killed it this episode. So good and such a sacrifice but I think she’ll see him again for sure, it just may take awhile.
Hope if there IS a price that it’s not too much! I want them all to be happy and right now they basically all need a hug. =/

Public Service Announcement: Let’s not go overboard! The details weren’t ironed out that far in advance and we have a lot of SFers here who are our friends and are as into the details as we are. There will always be those that dismiss what we see as important as we dismiss things they see as important.
That said I DO think these particular parallels are rather big & I’m surprised a lot have forgotten about the memory curse issue with TLK since we’ve seen it with Snowing and RumBelle, but not seeing it doesn’t make them stupid. For them it doesn’t prove things either way because all they know is that it didn’t work and some will always just say it didn’t work and the parallels don’t matter. It just means we interpret it differently. What else is new?
(This is why I’ve been spending more time on Tumblr. Easier to not have to see the hate and can just enjoy my ship without having to see the negativity. I still like coming back here though.) 🙂
Now back to what I came to post that is full of happy happy thoughts.
LOVELY graphics and I’m expecting many more beautiful things once I get to dive into tumblr more & people have a chance to make more gifsets etc. Anyway this is short but sweet & full of feels!

Very good point. Sad but very true. Neutral territory just isn’t neutral anymore and everything boils down to the triangle. Even after a HUGE episode with a LOT of emotional stuff going on..it still boiled down to the shipper stuff. I will be so glad when we flail about that stuff here, and then go back safely into neutral territory.
LOVED EVERYTHING for CS tonight. By “loved” of course I mean my heart was broken in a million ways but I have so much hope right now it’s ridiculous. With everything else that happened in the episode that was hugely emotional, I still came out of it with hope. The only thing I was remotely concerned about was my ship because I literally see no way that any of the other bad stuff can last. My heart was ripped and shredded in a million different directions, but I still came out of it with HOPE for everything and got very lucky in being able to say the same for my ship!
PARALLELS!
1. I’m working on a meta right now but I wanted to quote Charming’s letter to Snow here. I’ll finish my write-up on this and link it later but someone pointed this out on Tumblr and it is JUST TOO GOOD!
Dearest Snow.

Snow showed up and then had to turn him down and LIE to him that they could never be together and he STILL risked his life and went after her when the safer thing to do would be to marry Abigail. He couldn’t marry someone he didn’t love, his true love was out there, and her showing up even to turn him down made all the difference. The letter even said he’ll have his answer and they hadn’t even KISSED at this point. She showed up and it gave him enough hope and faith to track her down.
2. It was these events that led to her taking the memory loss potion to forget him, where he tried to break the spell with a TLK which DID NOT WORK and she violently shoved him. Words, words, words. Didn’t work. TLK? Didn’t work because she COULDN’T REMEMBER HIM. Which is just like how BELLE violently reacted to Rumple when he kissed her to try to bring back her memories. TLK DOES NOT WORK WITH MEMORY CURSES (See Jane’s tweet confirming what we should have known from Heart of Darkness way back in S1.)
3. Next we have the pilot. Henry goes to find Emma who is living a somewhat nice-ish life though lonely. He barges in to her world, tells her she has to go save everyone and bring back the happy endings, he’s family, etc etc etc. We spend an entire season of his getting to her and winning her over and convincing her to believe so that the curse can be broken by a TLK between them.
Hook has done something (somehow – we don’t know how yet!) it took Rumple centuries to do – travel from the EF to our world that has no magic in it. He did it in a year. Henry took a whole season to convince Emma to believe, and it looks like Emma might believe him in 3×12! HUG! Both knocked on her apartment door in a city that isn’t SB, told her they were some long-lost person that’s actually very important to her in some way (her son, an old friend), and that she was needed to go off on this thing that she doesn’t know how to compute or add up. BEAUTIFUL! Henry is definitely one of her TL and now we have Hook doing some of the same things!
Other stuff!
1. “Good” – he told her he would think of her every day and she ENCOURAGED him to not forget her. For me it was a very Han/Leia thing (they love their Star Wars!) when Leia says ILY and Han says “I know” – it said it without saying it as goodbye was imminent and too painful but it was encouraging in its own way (THE EYES – they wound me but make me so happy all at the same time and she started tearing up!)
2. CAPTAINS SWAN reference. I did my methods of transportation meta about her bug and his ship ages ago, but they practically threw our name out there with him trying to make her smile over something stupid when their worlds were falling apart and it was beautiful.
3. Emma didn’t seek him out to say goodbye. Why is that a good thing? It was avoidance that was similar to baby Henry. She couldn’t even LOOK at baby Henry because it was too painful for her. Saying goodbye to Hook was something that he needed because he’d remember, but it was painful for her to think about so she didn’t seek him out. She hugged everyone bug him pretty much, but their eyes and their positive exchange said so much.
4. Hook let her go. Again, why is this a good thing? Because it was her choice. She was the only one that had an option to stay with Henry and others kept telling her to do it but she did it because she WANTED to. She didn’t want to be separated from her son and Hook did NOTHING to try to convince her to stay. His head turned sharply when Snow told Emma she had to go and leave them. It was his reaction that we were shown, that poor, startled, depressed face that realized that he was about to lose her. But he didn’t try to stop her, or to stand in her way, or put any pressure on her with a hug or a kiss or an end of the world declaration. He made sure that she knew, even though she’d forget shortly, that someone would miss her, and think of her always, and he let her go because he couldn’t separate her from her son. Because even remembering everyone else, including him, it would be too painful for her to lose Henry, and he didn’t want that for her.
5. Showing up in NY! All the parallels I’ve already talked about but why him? Because he gets through to her faster than anybody. I’ve said it from the start (seriously, see page 1 of this thread!) He got through some of her walls on that beanstalk when it takes everyone else ages. It looks like he’ll convince her it’s all real by the end of 3×12 and they GET each other. They understand each other. This is a year in the future. Did you see his face? The pure joy he felt of seeing her, even though she didn’t remember him? I don’t know the details or the hows and whys he got there but he GOT THERE and found her and was so relieved.
A year has passed. Everyone has their memories in the EF so there’s likely been quite a bit of bonding going on for various people. CaptainCharming already has a good bond, I said just recently that I think CaptainFire is going to be just fine etc. Hook is in good with them now. They know how much he cares for Emma. Tink points it out every time she talks to him practically. Yet somehow with everyone who presumably could have come, they let him. And he went in there thinking without a doubt, Emma is his TRUE LOVE and that the kiss would work (Charming must have forgotten to mention the issue with no memories but I’m sure Hook had to try anyway). He is in it for the long haul and he came to get his Swan. Beautiful.
6. Speaking of Tink. And everyone was worried about past Hookerbell. I actually enjoyed their scene. I like seeing him that way but we (thankfully) did NOT have to endure a kiss (he has ONLY kissed Emma onscreen!) and it was a way of setting up that Tink KNOWS that he only risks his life for love or revenge. Jump to present day where he knows what is at risk (ie: losing Emma and/or Emma losing something/someone/everyone she loves basically, they’re fuzzy on the details) and he risks his life like he did to distract Anton which was also FOR EMMA. After he risks his life against the shadow, Tink makes a point of calling him out on the fact that she KNOWS he didn’t do it for himself or for revenge (thus knocking out 2 of the 3 options being “love”) and she says he did it for Emma.
It was a nice callback to their flashback scene where he recognizes her as a fairy (he is quite perceptive isn’t he?) and says “Aren’t you supposed to be helping me find my happy ending?” and then in present day she IS because she keeps pointing it out to him and mentions Emma all the time! Tink is hardwired to try to set people up with their TLs and she was vindicated tonight by the Blue Fairy and will soon be proven right about OutlawQueen and hopefully CaptainSwan!
7. The music. At first I was a little annoyed. Not really afraid because I believe in CS and I wanted it to be Hook at the door and it really wouldn’t make sense for Neal to go because she wouldn’t remember their more friendly relationship now, just that he left her for jail so she wouldn’t be likely to believe him anyway, but because it’s a song associated with Neal. It was the song that was playing when we first saw him on screen as Neal and I don’t WANT to take any SF stuff (other than Emma of course) but sometimes these things DO overlap because SF is a part of Emma’s life no matter what.
And then something was pointed out to me. Much like the analysis of S2 that opened with the man who didn’t come back and closed with the one who did, we had the same song playing. They don’t usually repeat things like that. We rarely get music from outside sources to begin with. So here we are, in NY, just like Neal was on the day he got the postcard saying “Broken” and the same song is playing.
So the same song that plays when Neal is in NY and chooses NOT to go to Emma when he can even though he knows exactly where she is and is too afraid to go after her even though he regrets it every day, is the same song that plays when Hook shows up in NY and has been thinking about her every day and actually DOES go find her.
8. THE EYES. The eyes say SO MUCH for these two, don’t they? So much is conveyed with just a look. I felt it in their sad goodbye of missed chances and I saw it again when Emma opened the door. There was a look of shock on her face (why would you be shocked somebody knocked on the door. I know he’s good-looking and all but…) and then when he said he was an old friend her face killed me trying to place him. Even when he kissed her, there was the briefest of moments where she fell into it. Her eyes closed, she leaned in and right when she looked like she really might enjoy it, she realized that it was some random guy who was way too happy to see her and knows her name and just starts kissing her, and she reacts, violently, just like Snow and Belle have in the past. And when she shuts the door and tells Henry it’s nothing, she licks her lips and looks back, wondering what just happened.
9. Snow’s quote. As both Snow & Mary Margaret, we saw her say that “happy endings aren’t always what we expect them to look like but it doesn’t mean we don’t get them” (paraphrasing, I need to find the actual quote). THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING. Neal thought his happy ending was getting back with Emma and Henry but has been coming more to the realization that that’s not it this season. (I’m 99.999999% sure on that and I expect to see some good CaptainFire where he encourages Hook to go after her. PLEASE!) I’m sure at one point Emma thought that Neal and Henry would be HER happy ending and then everything crashed around her. Then she might have been leaning toward Hook (pretty sure!) and she didn’t get the chance because she had to go give up her memories.
But this quote was a very key point to both the characters and the audience. I know many feel like they’re gonna drag out the triangle forever but I feel like it’s pretty much dead and has been dying a slow death since it started. Not since the SHIPPER WAR triangle started, since the actual on-screen triangle started. There’s just too many things leaning toward CS for me to see that differently right now. I’ll find a way to deal with it but I’m pretty confident.
The characters and the audience need to realize that just because somebody doesn’t get what they think is their happy ending doesn’t mean they won’t have one. The WHOLE POINT of a happy ending is that you end up HAPPY and with the person you’re meant to be with and living the life you’re meant to live. If they’re SUPPOSED to be with that person and HAPPY with them then how is that a bad thing? We all have our dreams of what WE’D like for them and not a single one of us will be 100% happy with it no matter how it ends up. We’ll always say I loved this but I wish we had had that in there too. It happens. Same goes for them. They think their happy ending is one thing and then it gets turned on its head but they still find it.
See Snowing’s entire romantic life together for reference, especially when their daughter is involved. In fact they showed that in this episode about how unhappy Snow was because of the curse and losing Emma and how it WASN’T what they planned and how EVERYTHING is ruined and then it turned out ok! Different, but ok!
Snow said that the fun part is in the unexpected AND THAT THEY WILL GET ONE. Neal has just been hurt, a lot, and his poster is Believe in 2nd chances. The whole season, we’ve been building up to Regina getting her 2nd chance with Robin, and Hook getting his with Emma. But now we have somebody else left out (who has now had a year away which is way more time than bouncing from Tamara to Emma, we don’t know what his emotional status is after a year, we just know that he plans to see them again and tries to sound encouraging that it will happen, and that Hook is the one to show up on her doorstep!
SIDE NOTE: I’m inclined to think the time jump was partly to explain the Snowing baby and fit in Ginny’s pregnancy, but it also is very LOST of them as well as giving a year gap where we can compare and contrast how the guys dealt with being away from her. Neal was stood up right before and she never (to our knowledge) addressed that. She went to check on him after he lost his father, and had a sweet goodbye where he basically said “this isn’t the last we’ll see of each other” meaning for her AND Henry and that needs to be true for all their sakes. None of it was romantic, he didn’t even try the ILY like the last time they were separated and he’s been wanting to say. I really really think he’s taken the hint and realized that she pretty much doesn’t want him back, and now he’s separated from them for a year. I’ll be very curious to see how much of that is true and what’s happened since then, but I hope he hasn’t been pining away.
I already feel bad for him but that did feel like more of a friendly goodbye and acceptance that this is the way that they’re in his life and that’s enough for him. I’d love it if we see some CaptainFire bonding after losing her and Neal helps urge him to go to her because she deserves to be happy and she’s happy with Hook! – This will sound like dreaming for a long time I’m sure but I swear the characters get over things faster than the fandom does and that’s the impression I’ve gotten from Neal lately. That he’ll be more ok than we think.
A time jump a year ahead with him feeling like she didn’t choose him and this time it was for good would give him a chance to get some space away from it to deal with his issues and move on. I doubt we’ll see him move on super fast, but he moved on before (and then moved back fairly quickly) and I think a time jump will help make that more realistic. It would also be very LOST of them with Sawyer being sad to see Kate leave and he loved her – I firmly believe that – and then he learned to love Juliet who he spent time with on the island in the 3 year gap before Kate returned in THEIR flashforward story. I loved Skate. Suliet took time to grow on me, and they were interested in the members of Jate before they thought Jack & Kate died on the helicopter, so they moved on with each other and ended up in love, so much so that even though Sawyer was happy to see Kate again, and Juliet was a little jealous and worried about it, it just didn’t matter. I feel like the same will true of Once in that aspect, except that Emma isn’t “dead” just “lost” (no pun intended but that is what Rumple said this episode about Bae being gone and nowhere he could get to at the time).
Neal did say he’d see them again, but that could also have been trying to cheer himself up or make it easier for them to go like they needed to, but it was definitely a more platonic/friendly vibe for me with their goodbye hug. It was sweet and I really liked it. Emma did a good job this episode of backing up the fact that she DOES have feelings for him and cares for him as a person, even though she DIDN’T go to their date which was the signal for back off the romantic stuff. The more romantic goodbye in this one was her getting teary-eyed and encouraging Hook to not forget her, even though she’d forget him in just a few moments. *SOBS*
THIS EPISODE KILLED ME ON MANY MANY LEVELS. Seriously so many things even though I mostly analyze CaptainSwan but I really really loved this episode minus the fact that it tore my heart in a million pieces but that’s what they do to drive the story forward. There has to be some kind of angst and obstacles and that’s ok because everything in this episode, as painful as it was, gave me HOPE and sometimes that’s what you need most!
I’m sure I missed something massive and my brain is fried! Is it March 9th yet???
Chomping at the bit for the interviews we’ll get between now and March! PaleyFest should be in there somewhere too, as well as more filming. They’re inside for the rest of the December before the holiday break so probably not a lot to report anytime soon but at least they’re working on new stuff sooner than they do on the summer break!
I’m looking forward to the interviews about this episode almost as much as I jumping up and down for the one GOOD thing about this episode which were the heart-breaking CS moments. Everything shattered me but gave me some kind of hope. They’ll all be happy. I have faith!

Couple of quick things (promise!)
Rewatched 3×10 & noticed something I didn’t analyze before because I was so wrapped up in defending everything else!
- RumBelle – reunion, lots of hugs, kisses, wonderful moments and Rumple tells Belle that he wants to take the path that means them being together (aww! loved it but was waiting for a ring! Still sounded kind of official and moving in that direction though!)
- Snowing – Charming gets the potion from Rumple so that he can stay alive and he & Snowing can be together (yay!) and start having more kids….
See what I’m noticing? A lot of endgame and TL couples mentioning being together and long-term. Why is this important? Because THIS is the episode we hear Hook say that he’s “in it for the long haul.”
So we’ve got RumBelle almost practically but not quite engaged & talking of the future, Snowing healed & talking again about having more children, and Hook saying he’s in it for the long haul with Emma which is basically what Rumple just said about Belle and Snowing has always been.
Not saying, just saying. It made me very very happy to realize all of that was in the same episode!
Also fun – our Rapunzel did an #AskAlex tonight and sent the following tweet! CS may have a lot of Tangled parallels that we love and I know many are curious/concerned about what will happen when Rapunzel is brought on and the story is so different from the one that we know, but the more I see of her in other things and see how she’s interacted with fans my worries have ceased. We don’t NEED the Tangled version – we have that in CS! I really think I’m gonna like their version of Rapunzel though and already adore the actress. Can’t wait to see what happens in 3×14 but she already fits in well with the cast after filming this week! Looks like a keeper so I hope we get a lot of her. Rapunzel is one of my favorites after all! Anyway, on with the BEAUTIFUL tweet – and I think she was a fan of the show long before she was cast and I really really love that she is one of us! Not saying she knows anything….but she at least shares our opinion!

When she held up her hands to get arrested the tattoo was visible and noticeable in the scene for sure. I knew what you meant!
As for the license plates, it makes sense they have different ones now. We saw the current plates in the pilot which was 836-M4X. It was in the flashback in 2×06 when she steals the stolen car that it read E83-KAE.
I have a feeling the 83 is a nod to the fact that 1983 is the year Emma was born. Not sure about the K but A&E makes me think of Adam & Eddy. (I’d love to think it meant Killian and Emma but plates could mean a million different things).
I’d forgotten there were SO many little things here and there they keep putting in the background near Emma that are reminiscent of the beanstalk and beans and ships and the sea. She was born in a castle surrounded by water and gravitates toward it, always wanting to live somewhere on the beach, so it’s not too surprising and just reinforces what we’ve said all along.
Now on to everything else!
NOTE: This is not about Neal AS A PERSON. It is about the differences in EMMA’S RELATIONSHIP with the two men and a couple of examples of why I prefer her with Killian.
Just two of the big reasons I really love CaptainSwan. He’s know she had all this other stuff on her plate since he met her and even after learning a lot of things about her being the Savior etc etc, he still wants to know more.
TRUST & BELIEF have been a big theme of this season. It’s been analyzed over & over so I’ll spare you the recap but there’s something that all our TL couples share and it’s beautiful to see that in CS as well.
Emma is a great combination of her parents. She really is. There are a lot of times that she gets down like Snow does, and then someone like Charming (*cough* Hook *cough*) helps her find a way to believe again and know that she will succeed, even when nobody else is able to convince her of that, no matter how much she cares about them.
I got to thinking a bit about the times I’ve said this week that I think Emma will demand answers from Hook. She was jealous and hurt and he’s not acting like himself, not the man she spent time with in NL anyway. She’s going to want answers and I really think we’ll have to see a moment of her demanding them.
I have a feeling this will closely mirror Dark Hollow: NEAL will want answers from EMMA (and she NEEDS to give them, even if it’s a little speech about how part of it was about Henry but that she doesn’t actually want to go back. She NEEDS to address that and make her feelings clear – more on that in a minute) and EMMA will be seeking answers from HOOK about the whole change of attitude / Tink thing.
I fully expect her to just snap at this point. Everything is crashing down on her, she doesn’t have tons of hope, the one person she’s been counting on during the week from you know where has up and left and was seen with someone else (2nd time she’s acted jealous of Tink, this time more pronounced!) and every time she opens her mouth to talk to ANYONE about how she really feels about something, it gets dismissed and she ends up like a child being chided for being jealous over this that or the other and she can’t possibly be right about the actual imminent danger of people she cares about.
She lost something after S1. Sure she gained her parents and some answers, but she lost her FRIEND. As MM, she was observant and knew when Emma said one thing and meant another. She could SEE the jealousy and call Emma out on it and in the case of Graham, it was just jealousy. Ever since Snow became “both,” she’s lost the ability to read Emma. She keeps assuming this that or the other (not helped by Emma’s walls and making comments that should be setting off alarm bells that just aren’t), but she projects onto Emma and it’s understandable. It is. It’s all she knows. But Emma doesn’t HAVE a confidant anymore, at least not she can talk to about her love life.
She tried to tell Snow about the kiss and even though Snow has been WATCHING how she behaves around Hook and seeing how real those feelings are for him and thinking something could be there, she dismisses the idea as quickly as Emma does but for entirely different reasons. She’s listening but not HEARING, at least not the way that MM did where she recognized if they were talking about it, then clearly it meant something.
Every time Emma tries to talk to someone about everything going on, they automatically decide she’s worried about whether Neal will forgive her for kissing Hook or whether she’s just avoiding her feelings for him. They’re not stopping to consider that maybe Emma doesn’t want to go back to Neal. We keep seeing Hook get brought up in conversations that shouldn’t have anything to do with him. Emma’s reaction to Snow telling her to have hope that Neal was alive was a whiny “Why?” not a “Do you really think he could forgive me?” *hopeful look* which is EXACTLY what she did when Hook told her he believed she would succeed and save Henry. It was a look of awe and a “You think so?” seeking reassurance. Funny how it never occurred to her to actually look hopeful or seek reassurance with regards to getting Neal back (which she really doesn’t need in the first place cause clearly he wants her back). Everyone is pushing her in that direction and she just seems annoyed rather than hopeful.
Then we have the talk with Charming. They were JUST talking about Neal. It could have been left with that. He never brought up her maybe having feelings for the pirate and it stopping her. That question was never asked. But EMMA did bring up Hook and did so with very interesting language. “Are you sure you aren’t just pushing me to Neal to try to keep me away from Hook?” (paraphrase but pushing vs keep away from is accurate). Why word it that way? Why mention Hook at all if he’s a non-issue, or if she felt like he WAS worried about Hook, why not give him some reassurance that he needn’t worry about it because it’s sooo not happening? Everyone is pushing her to Neal and she keeps NOT listening to them and doing her own thing. THEY told her to go on the date for herself and she chose NOT TO for herself, with any outside influence. Yet she obviously thinks that Charming / Snowing (likely Snowing) are trying to actually “keep her away from Hook” – otherwise she wouldn’t have asked that.
Personally if I knew the guy I wanted to get back with wanted me, even if I wanted to punish him a bit for the pain he caused, I definitely would NOT be reacting the way Emma is. She’s struggling, she’s not ready to deal with everything but I’m anxious to see what she says when her guard is down and she’s just too fed up to put up with the nonsense anymore. She needs to give Neal closure to give herself closure and she knows that but it’s gonna be painful and emotional. She pushes things down.
On top of that she doesn’t have anyone to really confide in since they always steer it back to “but you need to go try with Neal for yourself!” and clearly don’t have the best opinion of the “pirate” even though he SAVED DAVID’S LIFE – really Snow? Really? Rumple made it possible for you to not have to choose your husband over your daughter, but Hook gave him the chance to actually be in your life one way or another. Grrrrrr (Thank everyone but the guy your daughter might have feelings for. Yeah you’re not biased at all! She thanked Hook in Good Form before the kiss but has been very anti-Hook in language since Neal is alive now. SNOW!!! I love her but sometimes….grr)
So we haven’t gotten Emma’s take on everything. No huge emotional outburst (yet, I’m still hoping cause I’m fed up for her!) but I’m pretty sure that if she wanted Neal back, especially with everyone throwing her in that direction, she’d have gone back already. It would have been tentatively, as in not sure this is going to work or if I can ever trust you (more on that soon) but she wouldn’t be fighting so hard if she weren’t interested in the other guy and she certainly wouldn’t be stopping everything (which she rarely does) to get jealous over him with someone else (who she’s already been jealous of a little before).
TRUST is extremely important in a romantic relationship. It’s why I like Rumple and Regina having clean slates with their interests (and Hook too with Emma). Nobody that knows the things they’ve done or at least has directly been affected by it in a way that they blame them for it. It’s one thing for parents and children to find a way to forgive and love each other, but those issues never REALLY go away. They’re always nagging at you in the back of your mind. (This was shown even more by Snow choosing to stay with Charming in NL even though she was all “never leaving my daughter again” as soon as she got Emma back. Emma has legitimate reasons to fear the past repeating itself in various ways as do many others).
So I really want Neal to have that as well – someone who he hasn’t hurt who accepts who he is NOW vs who he was or what he did. I LOVE that about RumBelle – he’s done some awful things but it doesn’t MATTER because Belle loves him for the man he is now and will fight for him. Best versions, yada yada, we’ve been over this. It’s beautiful.
Emma deserves to have someone too that she doesn’t have to question all the time. She & Hook aren’t saints and certainly not saints with each other, but she betrayed first. She knows that, they’ve gone back and forth, all that is done and it stems directly out of her not trusting him because of Neal. They moved past that and she has always seen him as a kindred spirit – someone that understands her and vice versa. He hasn’t caused her the pain and abandonment issues because he didn’t owe her anything and she drew first blood by betraying him.
Until this past episode, all season long we’ve seen how well they work together and his absolute belief in her. Their words have always spoken of TRUST & BELIEF and shown it in their actions except when some outside force makes them question it. This leads me back to my point about:
Emma is very much a combination of Snow & Charming.
Snow gets down about things. A lot. The pressure gets to her and she talks a good game and then falls apart and then Charming comes along and makes it better. Hook does the same for Emma. Every once in awhile the guy will fumble and need his girl to have faith in him too, though it happens rarely.
This season we’ve seen Charming falter. He was not going to tell Snow that he couldn’t leave because he didn’t want her to stay there with him. He didn’t want her to choose that life and she got mad at him for not believing in her. It was a mistake quickly rectified (not one of massive proportions like leaving for years without planning to come back and fight to fix things) and they got it back quickly with the point of it being important to actually be TOGETHER. Well Hook just faltered. He backed off from Emma without telling her why (hmm, Charming was doing a bit of that this season too…) and he fell into old habits to try to drown out the pain without actually knowing for sure that she wouldn’t choose him anytime soon. He believed they’d be together eventually but he still let himself wallow in the idea that they wouldn’t be (like Charming accepting that Snow needed to go find someone else to start a family with).
The girls know that their guys are being idiots in these situations. I expect Emma to see right through his walls and call him out on it and want to know what is going on because clearly he’s not behaving like himself. To her, based on everything she knows and how much she’s gotten through his walls, this is now very OOC for the man she’s come to know. So why is this important?
Because Emma is like Snowing. Think back to when Snow was told by King George that she had to turn Charming down and make him believe she never loved him because it was the ONLY way he was ever going to go running to Abigail’s arms and even THAT did not work. Snowing flat out LIED to him and said she didn’t love him and then LEFT HIM. But Charming didn’t believe that. He knew something was wrong. He left his duties behind, condemning himself basically, to chase after her to GET ANSWERS.
I fully expect Emma to see immediately that something’s off (look at the gifs above – she has a thing with lies and she knows that he’s being weird right now and she looked at both Tink and Hook and I think she was jealous yes but I also don’t think she fully bought it either. Her reaction will be out of anger and him choosing for her (something that Neal did wrong too) but it happened recently and can be fixed JUST LIKE WITH SNOWING IN NL.
When things happen RIGHT NOW they seem to be fixable for the couples. Rumple thought he was going off to die and left Belle behind but she believed enough for both of them, just like Snow demanding that she stay with Charming because they belong together, wherever that may be. It’s the deep-seeded issues that don’t go away.
Sure things get swept under the rug (boy do they!) but those things linger. It’s why even after Regina and Emma teamed up to save Henry, Regina immediately jumped to Emma being upset that Henry needed Regina. It didn’t matter how much that seemed swept under the rug, that doubt is ALWAYS there for EVERYONE in one way or another which is exactly why it has NO PLACE in a romantic relationship.
Snowing has overcome many ALMOST huge blunders that I’ve just mentioned and then some. But they still both believe they belong together and when one is a little down the other makes up for it but in a reasonable amount of time. Hook was JUST being stupid and Emma hasn’t gone for answers yet but I’m pretty sure she will. It was what Charming did in 7:15 am and it’s in her nature when she cares about something.
Seeing Neal again sent her into turmoil and she wanted answers immediately and got a few at the bar, but those issues are way more deep-seeded than anything that just happened. She can’t erase the decade+ of pain she feels and remembers when she sees him. She can be happy about the little things and happy for Henry and I think they’ll be friends again and close, but I don’t see that trust being rebuilt in a romantic relationship. Too much time has passed with too much added on top of it. (I still think if he had come back after the postcard it could have been a different story if they really wanted to go there, but they didn’t. They had him choose Tamara over Emma until she wasn’t an option – a week ago – and I don’t think Emma’s forgotten that either, but she’s not chasing Neal for answers anymore or showing up for their date that’s about 12 years too late. I do think she’ll want answers from Hook though.)
CSF dynamic:
I think at this point she almost feels sorry for Neal. Her smiles are almost always bittersweet and she’s happy to have him around for Henry but that’s it. I am greatly encouraged by them getting along though and also in rewatching his chat with Hook at the bar because I feel like CSF may be very very good friends in the not-too-distant future and it’s a matter of just tying up the loose ends of triangle.
Neal and Hook, even though discussing Emma throughout the conversation, had a very different dynamic. They were more friendly rivals than enemies. The care was still there underneath it all and I think Neal was touched that he was making an effort to not make the same mistake with Henry that he made with Baelfire. Neal didn’t seem to believe at first that Hook was backing off (or to start with that he wasn’t actually there that night to pursue Emma) but he wasn’t antagonistic about it either.
The Neal we saw right after he learned about Emma’s “dalliance” with Hook, the Neal we saw mumbling things under his breath and then walking off, or taunting Hook about his ship, fighting him over the lighter etc etc was NOT present in this scene and not just because he thought he’d won somehow. Hook wasn’t saying “Here, she’s yours now” and it’s not up to him, it’s up to her. But even before discussing Emma, it seemed like a more friendly conversation than the ones we’ve seen so far.
In fact, while Hook was being honest and making sure that Neal realized that it’s not up to him just to back off, Neal was very realistic about the future. He visibly swallowed and the look on his face was reminiscent of earlier in the season when he wasn’t so confident, but he still got up to try which is commendable for him. Can’t get anything if you don’t try at all (which is what Mulan already learned. She never even said what she meant to though because she recognized it was a lost cause at that point. I think Neal might still say what he wanted to, but it’ll likely be in a conversation where he recognizes what her not showing up meant and having her agree with it.) It’ll be bittersweet and sad for him for sure, but I’m seeing less of the rage and more of the bittersweet side. The side that once told August that he could move on if he knew she was ok.
The more I look at it without the SF vs CS goggles on or listening to shippers, the more hope I have after that scene for a CaptainFire friendship renewed. I think Neal is finally really seeing that Hook has changed and isn’t what he thought he was. Neal’s grown up now and not seeing him the same way and Hook just made a very real growth step by putting Henry first, whether it works out or not. It would actually be interesting to see Neal stop Emma to talk (she’ll panic) and then for him to say that he knows her well enough to know the look and say he gets it/will back off now/ how sorry he was etc etc but then mention something about how much Hook has changed or that she’s been good for him or SOMETHING. I want their friendship back and I don’t want CSF to be all about who Emma loves, but I think it would be really really interesting if Neal acknowledges that CS is good for Emma and bows out gracefully. It would also mirror Mulan recognizing Aurora’s happiness and bowing out without causing her any undue pain for something she can’t control.
Tink:
Sick of having to address her since people keep saying she has a connection with Hook in the past (one word for anyone that tries to push this down my throat as if it means something when it didn’t allow him to move on or choose love over revenge or anything – and we don’t even KNOW what the “connection” to Hook is yet but one word: CORUMPLE. (That image is now burning my eyes but you get the point of how I feel about the idea of a past Hookerbell. It. Is. Meaningless. If it ever even happened). And now I feel sick so moving on. (Side note – they introduced Tink as having a “connection” to one of our core members and that was Regina. She has “connections” to everyone in the NL stories. It’s not remotely like Emma having “a very special connection” to Hook or calling them “kindred spirits” left and right. Very very different and in either case, anything that is in the past is in the past.)
On a more positive Tink note…
We have the pixie dust back and she might even get her wings (I hope so, that’s a loose thread that needs to come back). Also she was the driving force behind Regina moving on and she watched CS and then went to talk to Regina about it and even though she wasn’t around for any of the kiss or secrets reveal or any of that she still knew enough to recognize that Hook is all about Emma. So I think this could all come back into play for sure. I’m anxious to see it though! Love her friendship with Regina but I also want to see her help Hook find love again since it seems to be her thing. Hopeful that she could help prove CS once and for all and/or see Neal after it’s officially done for SF and help give him hope too (preferably both).
It WILL be sad seeing him sad. I like him a lot more without shippers breathing down my neck about it and I do want him happy. It’s like watching Rumple in Manhattan and being heartbroken for him but knowing that somewhere out there is someone even better for him! It’s not about being a better person, it’s about being the best MATCH for someone else and it’s not always who we think it will be (especially when we’re young). Since this season has been a lot about moving on from a first love and part of Emma’s secret being that she wanted to do that, I could see Tink coming to the rescue to try to give him some hope too.
As for the script tease that just came out, I don’t even know where to start! Not sure if it’s past or present but I know he said something similar in a so-not-convincing way to Charming and back then he was well on his way to being in love with Emma. He gave up when he was in front of that car. He had his revenge, or almost had it many times, and was basically ready to give up and die as long as he had his revenge. Ever since he realized that it wasn’t enough, he’s been a different person and well on his way to choosing love over revenge. Since this is a Tink thing as she told Regina to do those things, I would think she’d be encouraging of that in Hook as well.
He’s a survivor, it’s what he’s good at, but regardless of when this is, she knows that if he’s going to risk his life, it’s for something big. He says “me” to Charming to deflect and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is a present day convo with Tink where he’s deflecting as well and it sounds like she’s calling him out on it. This would likely take place while he still thinks that Emma is going to go back to Neal and it would give us that much needed Tinkerhook interaction where she calls him on stuff and we finally get some insight on their history and what he’s thinking right now. It would mirror nicely with her conversation with Regina in 3×03.
Either way I’m sure it’ll bring out all the haters who have forgotten that he deflected with that to Charming when he helped in SB, and it’s likely he’s massively deflecting now (if it is present day) with Tink because his Hook mask is back on and firmly in place while he’s falling apart. I don’t think that’ll last the whole episode. I’d love to see Tink giving him a pep talk or a swift kick and getting his act together before it’s too late with everything possibly falling down around them. Especially if something also spurs Emma to get her closure like I’m hoping and then have her snap at everyone – I will be really disappointed if she doesn’t just say ENOUGH! and lash out at this point. I know she’s fed up and everyone is pushing! Even if she gets closure with Neal I’m sure people like Snowing are gonna be “but why? Emma are you sure you want to do this?” instead of “It’s Hook isnt it?” (though maybe Charming could bring that in, I don’t know). This is why I love fanfic because all these little things can happen somewhere at least.
Chomping at bit for tomorrow’s episode but wanted to leave this post on a positive note because we need lots of pretty graphics to make us feel better about everything with hiatus being so close and I’m sure many of you are as fed up with the fandom as I am at this point too. So let’s look back at what A&E said at the beginning of the season shall we?
Emma is a lot like BOTH her parents (and we were JUST reminded by Charming that Snowing wasn’t exactly rainbows and butterflies when they first met either). We’ve been saying for ages that Tallahassee’s beanstalk trip in particular has a lot of Snow Falls feelings, we’ve now had The Sheperd & Good Form (solo arcs for the men, involves massive changes in their lives into what they’ve become more recently etc – not exact parallels but shepherd becoming a prince, navy lieutenant becoming a pirate captain and the events by evil people that shaped their lives) and then 7:15 am has a lot of potential parallels with Emma demanding answers from Hook (please let this happen) instead of buying into Hookerbell and abandoning everything.
I really don’t think she’ll go running into Neal’s arms thinking Hook doesn’t love her (and if she did, it would be painfully obvious and cruel to everyone and make more people hate her). She has too much Charming in her and Charming didn’t even believe when Snow actually told him she didn’t love him (which we all know was a lie). If…IF Hook ever told her that in an attempt to try to get her to go back to Neal for whatever dumb reason, I still don’t think she’d believe him. But it would still parallel anyway and be something quickly fixable, not years of lingering with no obvious intention of every repairing them (ie: Manhattan).
I swear if it looks like we’re gonna get something and then a curse happens and we’re left hanging I’m gonna scream. RumBelle gets reunions before everything (which I love) so I really hope we get something as well. I don’t think I can take another hiatus of shipper wars in the extreme with questions lingering, or watch Adam get tons of hate and have to fend it off all the time. I really really just want answers (like with Regina and Robin Hood) that we can see what they want us to see and enjoy it! I was skeptical about the idea of OutlawQueen before I saw him in action but now I love it! I liked the idea of SF until I saw it in action…and we all know how I feel about that now based on their history (they have their cute moments and I can sometimes almost believe they might want to retcon and go there but I just don’t see it really happening). IDEAS give…well, ideas but we just don’t know for sure how we’ll feel about it until it plays out.
So I’m not worried. Whatever happens we’re getting a lot of Hook & Emma scenes at least 3×12, 3×13, and 3×14 so far which is a good thing! I’m anxious because it can’t get here fast enough, and I’m on pins and needles because I always wonder if maybe just maybe I could have been wrong but there is just so much stuff that even if I discount this here or that there, I still come around to the same conclusion. I really hope they do too and I really think they have! *Fingers crossed!*
