Well they didn’t lie…it doesn’t “necessarily mean” anything! Still doesn’t rule it out though.

I’d been thinking that the heart she was playing with in those pics was Graham’s, and she was commanding him to catch Kurt for her. Then she hears them coming, and hides the heart just in time before they burst into the room. And after nearly getting busted, she decides perhaps Graham’s heart would be safer if kept in her vault in the future.
I like that idea! Makes more sense as long as Graham never sees the heart it should be fine. I think we’re going to see a very different Regina in this SB flashback; probably one who is a little unnerved and unsure but trying to muddle through.

Thanks! Also I love your sig! 😀
*gives more cookies to RumplesGirl* – the people you love in the past are always there somewhere buried deep down and he did once love her (to his credit he isn’t gloating that she’s dead, at least not to Regina’s face which is smart). It doesn’t mean they have to be a big part and he’s moved on now…let’s focus on that. (And yes I hope he’s there to get her to stop as well).

My question is, in a land without magic and where Regina can only do very minor things with the help of small trinkets, can she even take a heart?
Normally I’d agree with you, but then we have these pictures:

Well considering all of that….I go back to my: she used up most of her magic reserves in this episode which is why she basically has next to nothing left in recent SB pre-magic.
Edited: apparently mixing up actors / what roles I thought they would be. Carry on.
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
MysteryKat25ParticipantThat could also come down to the amount of magic it requires since we know she was very low on it in recent SB history. I bet she had to use a lot of her reserves (things she brought over that were magical) to do SOMETHING in this episode, probably put up a barrier thing around the town after visitors stumble into it and goodness knows what else. We’ve only seen her when she doesn’t have a whole lot to use and it seems weird she didn’t bring a lot.
Overall though I’m inclined to agree that I don’t think you can pull enchanted hearts in this world but they did also say that you can make magic from magic (as Regina did to get the apple). It could be a quantity issue or it could just be a land without magic issue. I don’t think she took a heart in SB pre-magic but I’m not 100% either way on ruling it out either, though guessing not.

MysteryKat25ParticipantWell…here’s another thought: “We Are Both”…perhaps after she has spent some “real” time as Lacey (as opposed to just being locked in a cell for 28 years) her style will somewhat blend together. Even as Belle she was enjoying getting to know how SB worked and was wearing new types of outfits so maybe some of her Lacey persona rubs off and she adds it to her wardrobe? *Passes out cookies and happy/hopeful thoughts*

MysteryKat25ParticipantOoo, good point RumplesGirl! That goes back to the shawl / heart discussion from before so she’d either have to use up a huge reserve of magic (could explain why she’s down to very little later on) or can’t take them to begin with. Graham’s heart was enchanted / pulled in FTL, but I don’t think you can do new magic in a land without magic except for the little bit we saw with her and Jefferson retrieving the apple and that took ever last thing she had left basically to summon up enough magic…hmm.

MysteryKat25ParticipantGiven the interesting hair and footwear I’d agree that it’s probably more Lacey than it is Belle, simply because I don’t recall her looking like that before. I think the key to getting her memories back will be getting Rumple to win her over all over again and that could be very sweet! (Also anything that gets us closer to having real RumBelle back is a win)

I think it’s more likely that Greg Mendell’s an alias Owen Flynn’s using. Greg’s certainly playing bad Mulder with Storybrooke, I doubt he’d be using his real name as people might remember him from back then.
I bet he lost his father in Storybrooke in mysterious ways (AKA Regina crushed his heart, don’t ask me how that would happen in a magicless town, I have no idea) and he’s been trying to go back find out the truth ever since
I’ve been rethinking this slightly. Maybe Gregowen doesn’t lose his father literally in past Storybrooke, but figuratively. The pictures where Regina holds a heart and then a chest, probably containing it? Maybe that’s not Graham’s heart, as some are thinking, but Kurt’s. She rips his heart out and commands him to leave the town and never to speak of it again. Kurt and his son do, but their once loving and caring relationship is then lost forever. Now heartless, Kurt becomes cold, uncaring and abusive and Gregowen becomes scarred and, after his father’s death reveals he mysteriously had no heart, vengeful. Sounds familiar? The writers love their parallels, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re having Regina unwittingly turn Gregowen and his father Kurt into the male versions of herself and her mother Cora.
The only minor problem I have with this line of thinking is the part about discovering his heart was gone. If that’s the case then they would have discovered that with Graham as well and there was specifically a scene where Emma was trying to show him he had a heartbeat (I’m sure she would have noticed if that wasn’t the case at this moment).
So something about stealing enchanted hearts makes them still able to function and go about their lives but doesn’t seem to leave an actual hole in them other than ability to love perhaps. Granted there’s the Cora heart-less “death” scene when she tricked Regina thanks to Hook but I don’t know if she had some spell on her to appear dead or if without a heart she was able to not have the heart beats and that only occurs in a land with magic maybe? Graham was in magic-less SB and Cora was in FTL. So if that’s the way it works the guy would still be outside in a world without magic and the heart thing probably wouldn’t have been discovered if that’s the case. (Did any of that just make sense? I think I’m starting to confuse myself).
To sum up: in a world WITH magic you can tell a heart is gone by lack of beating perhpas? Whereas lands WITHOUT magic the missing heart thing is apparently overlooked / unseeable (kinda like the wooden thing for August: believers see him as wooden, non-believers just see a guy). Either that or somebody realllly screwed up on Graham’s thing – didn’t they think he had a heart attack or something? Granted Regina was probably pulling strings all over the place but still – Emma would have noticed when she put her hand on his chest, right?

MysteryKat25ParticipantFor anybody interested in reading the books: Amazon has (I think?) all of them for FREE in ebook form. If you do not have a Kindle (or w/e) there is a KINDLE FOR PC app that is FREE for the computer. Which means…you can download ebooks and read them on the Kindle for PC program on your computer (and some ebooks are even FREE!)
Many of the fairy tale stuff that we read (in relation to this show) they are able to use because they’re in the public domain (aka written so long ago that they are no longer under copyright except in special circumstances – like Peter Pan belonging to the London’s Children’s Hospital). Many of those titles are also available for free so look around and have fun! 🙂
There are lots of classic literature novels available for free as well, though not necessarily as relevant to this show. (Things like Dickens, Austen, complete collection of Sherlock Holmes, etc etc).
Now that I know this, I am definitely looking forward to catching up on the “real” Oz stuff and seeing the differences / what things they might have pulled in for OUAT (after all, we saw flying monkeys in the book in the pilot – we know they like Oz and I for one can’t wait to see it).
And remember if you are looking for the free ones to be careful and make sure you know what you’re clicking. (Always makes me nervous so thought I’d remind everyone). There are also non-free (though fairly cheap if I recall) collection versions for those interested that put it into 1 volume I think.
