ParticipantWhen I first saw that illustration of Regina’s happy ending (meeting Robin) was taken out if the book, my first thought was that that sounded like something Cora would do. She would never want her daughter to fall in love with Robin. At one point I also speculated that both Pinocchio and the book’s paper might have been made from the same enchanted tree and somehow there’s a connection. I don’t think that anymore. I think he just wants to become fully human. I thought it was really compelling that Rumple used those drops to control August in slightly the same way Zelena used the dagger to control Rumple. To me this gave insight into why Rumple seemed so vicious in that scene. Plus, Rumple’s happy ending is fading fast and he’s become desperate.
Regina/Robin page – It does sound like something Cora would do…ripping it out.
The book’s paper – possibly the pulp was made from the wood shavings and sawdust created when the wardrobe was crafted.

ParticipantSo Henry’s middle name is Daniel?!?! That’s new. And I suddenly have Stable Boy feels all over again.
I don’t think his middle name is Daniel. I think it was Regina’s way of letting Henry know she wanted him to give her a fake page. He still has the page and he still has the key.
Oh no, that’s possible too. But I love the idea of Daniel actually being Henry’s middle name.
It is a great name and I love the way Regina said it. If Daniel is not his middle name it will be in fanfic…and it will live on forever. 🙂

ParticipantI think this is fake, Regina is only pretending to betray Henry. He would never give in to his mother if he thought she was evil again (remember season 1 Henry?). Also they both seem kinda unconvincing to me (“Oooh Henry now you need to give me that page I’m so angry”, “But mooom… Oh alright I’ll give it to you”) Also Henry Daniel Mills? How adorable. Young Emma looks stunning in that dress.
I think you are spot on! I don’t think his middle name is Daniel and that tipped him off to give her a fake page.

March 24, 2015 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Cruella's Last Name and Its Meaning for Happy Endings #299797nealfanforever
ParticipantAnyone else pick up on the significance of Cruella’s last name? I’m not talking about her fairytale name, but about her married name. She went by Cruella Feinberg in A Land Without Magic. Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis said in an interview that one of the keywords for 4B would be Feinberg.
What are three words/things that are mysterious now, but won’t be once Once Upon a Time returns this March? — OnceStorybrooke I took your ingenious question straight to the OUAT bosses and the answer is… interesting. “Voice, Feinberg and eggs” executive producer Edward Kitsis says. “Take that, Once people!” Any guesses as to what the heck that means? The comments section is yours for the taking.
It turns out that potentially, the surname has a lot of meaning. Joel Feinberg was a philosopher at the University of Michigan. His critique of psychological egoism could pertain to the various characters’ pursuit of their happy endings. According to Wikipedia, Joel Feinberg argued, “The only way to achieve happiness is to forget about it.” Feinberg’s view can be contrasted with that of psychological egoists who “hold that all human endeavor, even that which achieves happiness, is geared towards happiness.”
“Feinberg poses a thought experiment in which a character named Jones is apathetic about all but the pursuit of his own happiness. Because he has no means to achieve that end, however, “t takes little imagination […] to see that Jones’s one desire is bound to be frustrated.” To pursue only happiness, then, is to fail utterly to achieve it.
With all of this unceasing chatter about villains getting their happy endings, it seems like they’re bound to fail to achieve happiness precisely because they have made it their end goal. If instead, the villains were simply to see that “life is made up of moments” as David told Emma in 3×11, then they might actually learn to stop and enjoy the present. It seems the secret to happiness, according to Snow and David, is being able to enjoy the moment. David and Snow have lost just as many people they loved and cared about (i.e. their parents and their daughter for a time) and yet still found a way to make a fresh beginning with each other. By contrast, Rumple and Regina are simply going about getting their happy endings the wrong way. Regina and Rumple are making themselves unhappy by constantly wanting someone (Robin) or something (unlimited power) that is out of reach, and thereby missing the very people in front of them, Henry and Belle, respectively. If, however, Regina were simply to be content with being a mother to Henry, she might actually achieve inner peace instead of constantly worrying about Robin. If Rumple were simply to let go of his ambition to have everything, he might learn to enjoy being a husband to Belle, and potentially, start a family with her. According to Joel Feinberg, the characters who make happiness their end goal are bound to miss out on it. Who wants a happy ending when you can have a happy now? Endings are sad, but the present is here in the moment. Here’s hoping Regina, Rumple and the rest can learn not to make their happy endings their all-consuming goal, but rather, simply learn to “let it go” for their own sakes.
Very insightful!

ParticipantWas going to make this its own thread, but it fits here well enough. So of course plenty of Ursula’s backstory was based on the original Disney Little Mermaid movie. Ursula having a beautiful singing voice (which she loses), her father Poseidon has a hatred of humans, and they even included the song “Fathoms Below.” However, other elements appear to be blatantly taken from the 2008 direct video prequel “Ariel’s Beginning.” In said movie, Ariel’s mother is killed by pirates, and music is what reminds Ariel of her. Wouldn’t be the first time the writers have borrowed an element from one of the Disney direct to video movies. The fairy Silvermist, who guest starred in episode 2 of Wonderland, is from the Tinker Bell direct to video movies. Granted, of course these similar elements from the Little Mermaid prequel might just be coincidences, but I have my doubts. My guess is, the writers are familiar with the prequel due to their kids watching it in their homes. To learn more about “Ariel’s Beginning”, take a look at the Wikipedia link below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid:_Ariel%27s_Beginning
I also thought this could be a nod to Hook’s explanation that those who win get to write the story. In many ways Ursula was a mashup of Villain/Hero…ie Ursula and the Little Mermaid…like Red was the Wolf.

ParticipantI really liked this episode…Ursula got her happy ending!!! Best part of the episode. Crossroads: Hook…Hook…that’s all I can say. Liked: Tying up plot holes…Ariel saving Blackbeard…Hook’s ship…etc. OutlawQueen, though it was a dream, the feels were strong in this one! Cruella’s snark…yes! Ursula getting her happy ending! Disliked: Rumple…the Big Bad folks! The Big Bad!
I loved this episode too! Loved Snow channeling Regina…loved August’s nose! I had one thought about Robin…what if it wasn’t a dream but rather something similar to Rumple encountering Belle in Neverland. He thought it was a vision but it was an impersonation.

ParticipantDo we dare to dream that Keegan’s tweet could mean we’ll see Blue in something other than nun clothes or the jellyfish dress?
One can only hope. Also, the BF being back hopefully means that she knows more about the Author and/or Sorcerer than we thought! (come on head canon about Blue falling for a mortal man and turning him into the First Dark One/Sorcerer!)

Learned something interesting last week. Spanish for jellyfish is Medusa.

ParticipantI found this article on facebook showing what the Disney villains look like as little kids. I have to say they are quite cute. It makes us all wonder where did they all go wrong and why they all grew up to be so evil. They made a movie about Maleficent. So maybe they should do the other villains as well. http://moviepilot.com/posts/2015/03/19/where-did-it-all-go-so-wrong-these-7-disney-villains-were-absolutely-adorable-as-little-kids-2795435
Thanks so much for sharing this! I love it!

ParticipantNo I think this is a pretty big timeline issue. Lana deliberately chose to use Young! Regina’s voice during a lot of this and the costume was more Stable Princess than it was EvilQueen. After the Doctor, Regina was in all black because she’d gone dark side and killed a person, had her Evil Queen voice and was ripping out hearts. This episode…she can’t make a fireball. The issue is Snow. If it wasn’t for a much older Snow White–in the Doctor Snow was still young enough that she would have been played by Bailee. This is one of those instances where they should have cut out that moment of Snow riding through the glen.
I believe the moment of Snow riding through the glen was the most purposeful moment of the show. It is the moment that lets us all know that something has happened and something is off. I believe the writers inserted it intentionally.
