I am with MIA on this one…. Kathryn applied before DAVID woke up while she thought she was an abandon wife. She could have been going to college while he was in the coma… or all those thought were implanted.
If EQ / Regina has control she could have implanted the idea in Kathryn of going to law school…. allowing her to leave STORYBROOK with David as that would but a great spike in any romance with MM if he was way out of town with his wife. I think Regina can let those who she wants out of town leave. … it just takes fudging the rules….
Or She would have both Kathryn and David in the room next to Belle in the asylum.

All he would have had to say was, ” Regina can you PLEASE help me find out who stole my favorite tea cup?” That way he would not have to acknowledge that he was Rumple.
I think she would figure it out if he continued to use PLEASE whenever it was convenient for him.
