[adrotate group="5"]If Snow still thinks next season that Neal is Emma’s true love, I may yell and shout a lot of nasty things at my TV. I miss season two Snow who understood Emma and actually took time to understand her point of view.
If anyone’s read In the Shadow of the Queen (I haven’t), but I’ve read spoilers about it.
And Snow thinks that the huntsman is Red’s true love and mind you, this is after Peter died. .
It’s like the writers really don’t know what to do with Snow’s character anymore and that’s really sad. I hope that changes next season and that they make her “wake up” per se and she realize that Neal was not Emma’s true love. I need to hear Snow say that Killian is Emma’s true love and the one Emma is meant to be with, or Charming. But I think it’ll hit anyone that Emma should be with Hook.
Of course Snow should’ve had another baby if she wanted one, but the reasons she gave for wanting one made it seem like the baby was going to be replacement Emma (which is why I had hoped the baby would’ve been a girl because the drama potential there would be huge and could’ve led to some great father/daughter scenes between Emma and Charming). Snow’s reasons were less “I’d like the chance to actually be a mother and raise a child” and more “Emma, you’re to old for me to play mom to”. You’re right, Emma did miss out on Henry’s first smile/step/word etc but imagine if she said to Henry “Hey kid, I love you and all but I’m having another baby because I didn’t get to see you take your first step etc”. Have another baby by all means, but don’t make it seem like the only reason your having one is because your first child is all grown up.

I’m really hoping next season, Emma asks who pushed for the baby name Neal because I am 100% certain it was Snow. It probably won’t happen but I’d like it too. I feel like Emma knowing that would be some of catalyst to open up the discussion about why Emma was reluctant to search for him in Neverland.
But that’s my wishful thinking and chances are, it won’t happen. Because Adam and Eddy like for Neal to be remembered a hero not the douche he was to Emma in Tallahassee.

One thing I’ve always sort of noticed but Adam and Eddy have never really discussed is seeing Hook bond with the important men in Emma’s life. I read a meta about this awhile back. In the beginning of season three, Hook and Charming were not close friends. They weren’t enemies either. The only reason Charming disliked Hook probably is because a) the pirate thing and b) he used to be a villain.
But Hook proved himself in the Neverland arc. He saved Charming’s life and now, they have a secret bro nod whenever they see each other and Charming generally has Hook’s back when he needs help (the hospital scene in Kansas).
And then there’s Hook and Henry, the foremost important male figure in Emma’s life. He’s her first true love and you could tell when Hook spoke to him about Bae in 3×16, he really liked him. And Hook likes Henry too.
Henry and Neal I can understand bonding but Neal never had this bonding thing with Snow and Charming. That’s why it so weird for Snow to be so ‘Team Neal’ when she hardly talked to him at all in season three. What does she know about him other than the fact that he’s Rumple son and he had a relationship with Emma? NOTHING!! And now the Snowing baby is named Neal. It’s still my head canon that was something Snow pushed for, not Charming.
I hope we get more Hook and Henry bonding in season four. I hope Henry doesn’t simply ignore Hook just because he has his memories back. If Henry remembers what Hook said about Bae as a child, he wouldn’t ignore him right?
And I think besides Captain Charming, Colin and Josh are awesome together on set. I just imagine Colin giving Josh new dad advice since Evan’s about a year old now.
I can’t wait until season three premieres on Netflix (August 29th!!!). I look forward to hearing the commentaries when they’re posted. There’s a few good tumblr users who upload to soundcloud with ripped audio from Once DVD commentaries, so I’m hoping I’ll get that again. I download them and add to my iTunes.

I feel like watching Buffy from beginning to end prepared me for handling character deaths when they happen.
Joss Whedon likes to kill beloved characters. I think it happens in most shows he’s done. Buffy, Angel, Firefly.
It hurts when those characters die–I still get emotional when I re watch “The Body.” I almost always end up crying. But I’ve never really lingered on it and moan about it. The story goes on and I’m the type of person where I have to know how the story ends. Especially when it’s something I love.
Generally, I care more about the story and the character’s journey.
I didn’t like it at the time but I appreciate now how when Buffy ended, she didn’t end up with anyone. The story wasn’t really about her relationships; it was about her..
Emma could end up the same way but I hope she doesn’t. I want her to have it all. Romantic love, familial love; friendship love–the whole package.
She’s been through crap in her life I want her to be happy.
That’s why ‘shippers need to put character first before ‘ship. I feel like our ‘ship does that more with Emma, where we understand where she’s coming from and justify why we feel she’s a better fit with Hook as a true love.
Hate to generalize here but the general feeling or vibe I’ve gotten from SwanFire fans is that they tend to look down or ignore Emma’s pain and are more Neal stans than Emma stans.
I’m not saying that’s everyone but considering the meltdown that happened when Jen was at Monte Carlo earlier this summer, I don’t think it’s a wrong statement either.
Some fans just like to live in a bubble where their favorite character never does anything wrong. But there’s a problem with that especially when it comes to OUAT.
The problem is that every character is flawed. We’ve seen good characters make crappy decisions. And that’s true in life too. Good people make bad decisions.
I mean listen, there is no Mary Sue or Gary Stu on OUAT. That character simply does not exist.
My favorite characters make a mistake or do something I’m not happy with I’m not going to ignore it or pretend like it never happened just so my favorite will keep his clean image intact.
I love Rumple. He’s been my favorite since season one but when he does bad and I’m uncomfortable with what he did — like what he did in Kansas; I’m going to voice my dissent about it. It might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not going to whitewash over it and when it came to Neal, I feel like that’s how a lot of SF fans did. Neal is perfect, he can do no wrong, he’s a saint equal to the Pope.
But he has made mistakes and has admitted that he has. The one he never admitted was that sending Emma to jail was wrong. He traumatized her and never really, truly apologized for it. His apology in 2×21 was really about him, how leaving her made him feel than about Emma’s feelings. Especially when she tried to tell him and he laughed at her.
When you hurt someone you love as badly as Emma was hurt, you don’t belittle those hurt feelings just because they’re not yours. If someone laughed at my hurt feelings, I’d say that person is a jerk and a few other choice words that would get me banned. Belittling someone else’s pain isn’t considerate. And I feel like since Emma reunited with Neal, that’s pretty much all he did with her.
Anyway, considering how long this post is and I’ve typed it all up on my phone using one finger, I should probably go to bed now.
But before I do, I’d like to make a suggestion. I think we should put a moratorium on discussing Neal in this thread. I know it might be hard too but if we don’t see Neal at all next season it shouldn’t be difficult.
