Ahh, very interesting indeed. I have heard people make references to Neal as Emma’s Abigail/Kathryn, but not quite in this way or this in-depth. I think this is a great parallel and one we would easily fail to see unless we take a closer look at pairings and what has happened between them. On the theme of duty, I felt it was a duty for Emma and Neal to say “I love you” before he got sucked into the portal. We have discussed this before, but not in this light. It was rather a formality of sorts to bring closure to his “passing.” It was more of a “I’m sorry” and “goodbye” than “I love you.” The way Neal also says it is rather meh. Almost like how a parent would say it to a child in response.

Hmm, interesting indeed.
I just watched Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, “Captain’s Holiday.” So many moments that reminded me of Captain Swan, it is insane. Mainly Tallahassee CS moments. 😆 😆
Captain Picard goes on an unwanted holiday to the pleasure planet Risa. As soon as he arrives, he meets a beautiful women whom he meets under false pretenses. Just imagine Picard is Emma and the woman is Hook. 😆 😆
It gets better. He’s there to relax because his crew says that he needs a vacation and is trying to relax. She’s there because she’s looking for something called the U-tat or whatever. Picard eventually agrees to work with her to find the U-tat after encountering beings from the future who say that the U-tat does not belong in their time. There’s a desperate Ferengi involved and it turns out the guys from the future were actually the bad guys.
The woman, her name’s Vash says to Picard a few times that they make a great team.
I’m lying on the couch with my boyfriend watching this episode and the whole time, it just screams at me CAPTAIN SWAN & this is Tallahassee all over again.
Picard’s cynical and blunt like Emma and Vash, she’s a female version of Hook! Vash pops up again the following season but I don’t remember seeing her again after that.
Just had to share that.
