Participant8/10 (The first passing score I have given in a long time!).
Loved LOVED LOVED this episode!
It had a ton of Regina in it (Evil and Reformed) so I enjoyed it immensely! It’s been a while since we have had so much of her on our screens.
Anyway…
LOVED
-Regina, and the Evil Queen
-The hints at Regina being key to saving everyone in the underworld. I really hope that she gets to make up for what she has done by helping the people she killed, and takes a huge leap forward towards her redemption. It would take Graham to make the storyline complete, though, and I have a feeling that he won’t even get a mention.
-Henry Jr meeting Henry Sr.
-Cora as the miller’s daughter again.
-Bandit Snow
-That we got an explanation as to how Cora stole Henry.
-The casting for Hades. You need a strong actor to be able to go head to head with BH and be the more menacing one, and he was.
-That Regina got closure over her father, and the moments between them.
-Robbie Kay’s acting was better than it was 2 years ago, but I was still glad that he showed up for only a short time. It’s a shame because there is so much they could do with this character in the Underworld, and the actor doesn’t have the ability to pull it off.
-More mumbling from Emma and Neil. I really don’t like inarticulate characters or actors.
MIXED
-Ooh Jiminy you dirty pervert! Wait, why did no-one swat him like the bug he is for that?
-No Zelena, but we will get plenty more of her later.
-The red filter. I realise it is supposed to be the underworld but I found it irksome. Blue would have been better. Still, it is less annoying than the Neverland set.
-Hades’ blue flamed hair. Too Disney-esque.
DISLIKED
-EQ killing more people, such as the joker, for sport. In 4B she said that she only killed people as collateral damage in her pursuit of SW, but this is another example of someone who was not related to her search yet was killed.
-EQ is increasingly being written as a comical spoiled brat. Still menacing, but not as much as she was in season 1. Lana did the best with what was thrown at her, but there is no saving bad writing.
-No goodbye scene between Henry and Neil.
QUESTIONS
I wonder which fairy Rumple might need to summon. The black one or the blue one? I am hoping the Black Fairy.

ParticipantI imagine that Emma can take her own heart.
I hope that they indicate that Hook’s grave stone is just a gravestone and that his body is elsewhere with a preservation spell on it.
I also hope that for the sake of consistency that when we get to see her heart, their will be a dark spot in it.

Participant1. Rumple and Regina-Dark One Rumple.
2. Charming and Hook-Hook seeing as he can do more with one hand than Charming can with two, especially in sword fight. Charming sword-fights like he is dancing on a stage, Hook sword-fights like he means it.
3. Emma and Zelena-Close call as Emma is not quite used to her powers, but ultimately after several battles, it would be Emma.
4. Snow and Robin-Snow. Robin is a gentleman and would let her win lol.
5. Belle and Aurora-Aurora would be happy to smack someone over the head, so Aurora.
6. Cora and Maleficent-Cora, even if Mal turned herself into a dragon.
7. Pan and Cruella-Pan-his powers are wider ranging than Cruella’s.
8. Ursula and Ingrid-Ingrid-again her powers are wider ranging than Ursula’s.
9. Henry and Wendy-Henry-he’s a boy.10. Grumpy and Felix-Grumpy. Don’t know why.
11. Elsa and Lily-Lily has no magic, so Elsa.
12. Neal and Will-Will, he is the smarter one.
13. Red and Anastasia-Anastasia seeing as she has magic and could use it to defeat Ruby in either form.
14. Sneezy and Doc-Sneezy could infect Doc but Doc could treat himself, therefore Doc.15. Happy and Bashful-Happy-Bashful is too shy to get into a fight.
16. Dopey and Sleepy-Dopey would win as he would be awake.
17. Cinderella and Anna-Anna has more gile and smarts (it seemed to be the Prince’s idea on how to trick Rumple).
18. Mulan and Lancelot-Lancelot, he’s taller and stronger.
19. Jafar and Merlin-theoretically, Merlin.
20. Tinkerbell and Blue Fairy-theoretically, BF.
21. Granny and Bo Peep-Granny if Bo Peep is without her ”army”.
22. Whale and Kristof-Whale-he is just so much cooler, and could win with his wit and charm.Keeper of Regina's bravery

Participant1) What was your favorite episode of 5A?
The one with Regina and everyone else at the ball in Camelot.
2) What was your least favorite episode of 5A?
The rest due to plot holes and inconsistencies.
3) Overall thoughts on the Dark Swan/Camelot arc
Disappointing. I wanted Emma to be dark…but I suppose it wouldn’t make sense for her to be dark given that she was previously the weilder of the strongest light magic. Much, much more could have been made out of Camelot, though. There was no need for Merida.
4) Who was your favorite new character?
Even though there was no need for her, my favourite new character was Merida because the actress was so good. I just would have liked to have seen her at a different point in Once, if at all.
I would have put ”Merlin” seeing as he is one of my favourite mythological characters, but although the actor was fun to watch, I don’t think he and the character had enough omnipotency and omnipresence to make me believe that I was watching Merlin.
5) What was your favorite moment?
Regina dancing at the ball.
6) What was your favorite plot twist?
TBH, I can’t think of one. Most of the plot twists were based off of inconsistencies.
Perhaps Emma and Regina using Henry’s tears for the spell to release Merlin, but I saw this coming a mile off, and Henry didn’t know Violet long enough to make this believable.
7) What was your least favorite plot twist?
All the rest. Special credits go to
-Dark Hook, due to lack of DO symptoms prior to him knowing he was a DO.
-Dark magic coming out of Merlin.
-Rumple being the DO again…which is fine but it is for reasons that make no sense. It is true that he was addicted to power and magic while he was the DO, but he had all the darkness sucked out of him and was left with a pure heart, thus there should have been no temptation to become the DO again. There should have been no motivation.
8) Overall grade for 5A and final thoughts?
C-
I wonder whether Adam and Eddy bother to read this fansite, Lily Spark’s blog and all the other most popular fan pages? Since 2B, Once has been getting steadily worse and worse so I can only assume not.
I’d much better have seen Emma conquer her own darkness and end the Dark One Lineage for good rather than seeing all it, plus her power, transfer back to Gold, thus ruining his little character development.Quote
Yes! No sucking the darkness out! Just Emma and her struggle, and her light magic overcoming the darkness would have been enough! Don’t they trust their actors to act?

ParticipantWhere to start? Seeing as this could be the last few episodes of Once…..(and these are more ”wants” than ”hopes” because I have less hope than Snow White before learning that she was marked for the Underworld)…
1) Regina confesses to Emma that she raped and killed Graham.
2) Regina confesses to Robin that she locked up Marian and was going to execute her.
3) Regina verbally acknowledging and apologising to Snow and everyone else all the pain and suffering she has caused, showing true remorse and regret. Regina also admitting that Snow was just a girl when told Cora about Daniel, and even if she was an adult there was no reason to be so revengeful.
4) Regina giving the hearts from her vault back to the people who are still alive, and respectfully burying the rest, even if it was her mother that pulled the remaining hearts.
5) Regina getting her fertility back
6) WE FINALLY FIND OUT WHY ALL THESE CHARACTERS ARE ALIVE AND ALIVE AT THE SAME TIME AS EACH OTHER IN THE FIRST PLACE.
7) We find out why Blue Fairy is so useless.
8) We find out why dark magic came out of Merlin even though he was supposed to be all light.
9) We find out why Hook had no DO symptoms prior to finding out that he was a DO.
10) They continue the storyline of Arthur’s plan to take over Storybrooke.
11) That dwarf-tree gets turned back into a dwarf.
12) We see more of Violet, Mal and Lily.
13 )Henry getting more of a story line. Remember when he used to matter? No? Me neither.
14) We get an explanation as to why Robin insists he has a dark past. More fleshing out of Robin in general, please, and have him stronger and more useful to the current plot as well.
15) More development for Robin and Regina’s relationship in the missing year, please. I saw no sexual tension whatsoever. Just tolerance that turned to a deep hatred of each other. I didn’t find their banter playful or laced with sexual attention at all. I found Regina to be just plain rude and mean to Robin.
16) We find out exactly why it took Regina 9 months to cast the DC-The Original Edition whereas everyone else took seconds.
17) Overall, going back to the original roots of the world-building and within-show mythology without unncessary new-magical-item-of the week parades. Bring back the BF!!!
18) Clarity over the definition of ”realm”. According to the evidence, the meaning is constantly switching between ”kingdom”, ”continent” and ”world”.
Regarding (6)
My old theory from just before season 3 was that these characters existed due to the Lost Boys, and children from our world believing in them and retelling their stories over and over until they came to exist (like a mash-up of Neverending Story and Sophie’s World). Then they got caught in a time-loop, repeating the same events over and over but gathering/drawing in new characters until they figured out ways to resolve their issues and become better people. This process could also be generating magic or drawing magic from the universe for the blue fairy or some other god-like being to use.
My new one is this.
Some evil souls departed from possibily our world and were reincarnated as fairytale, mythological, legendary and other kinds of fictional characters. They then had to go through the motions as these characters, suffering, reedeeming themselves, and reaching for happy endings until they finally achieve them. The Underworld may represent a gateway or another level between the purgatory they are in (or a stronger level of purgatory) and their final destination: Heaven or Hell.
(The likes of SW for example may have been someone awful in a past life and was doomed to suffer at hands of EQ for example).
Perhaps the explanation is somewhere between the two. And I am yet to figure out how the author fits into it all. Maybe his work was used as a way of reporting to whomever what these characters were doing and whether they deserve a way out of purgatory and passage to a better place.
But hey, world-building plot holes show up in every episode these days so our theories don’t need to be tight anymore. lol.
If the writers bother to address (6) and have a better explanation than me that actually fits in with all of the within-show mythology/world building we have seen so far, especially the core ones, I would be very very happy and could walk away from this show somewhat satisfied.

ParticipantA and E like to play alot with their favourite toys, so Zelena will definately be back.
She will probably get wind of Robin and Regina being ”dead”/in the Underworld and will use the opportunity to get her daughter back. Maybe she will be keeping an eye on her daughter the same way she used to keep her eye on Regina while in OZ.
It would be nice for to interact with Cora, but seeing as Cora is in the underworld with and there is currently no means for Zelena to get there, then it would be a case of a magical McGuffin to get her there (and I am not sure Zelena would want to leave her daughter behind just for that, unlike Snowing, Robina etc) or bring Cora back to life into the same realm as Zelena’s daughter and of the living.
P.S what happened to those portal-shoes? Could someone remind me?

ParticipantIs it me, or does 5B seem like its one big rehash of 3A’s Neverland arc? “Swan Song” ended with our heroes heading on a boat to a different world in order to save someone else, just like the Season 2 finale “And Straight On Til’ Morning.” Though, I do have to say that the Underworld arc has a huge advantage over Neverland for its setting. Neverland suffered from filming in a small indoor soundstage that was all a boring dark jungle. The twist they’re doing with the Underworld, though, is that it seems like we’re getting a hellish version of Storybrooke. Seeing all of these dead characters again should be fun, too.
Yes, I predicted this rehash a few days ago on a different thread, and commented on the crappy Neverland set as well.

Not sure how I feel about this one either. It was another almighty mess because of
-The dropped storyline of Arthur wanting to take over SB and make it into his own personal Camelot. (Perhaps he will do this while our Heros are in the Underworld? Then we now have Hades and possibly Rumple as the antagonists, so would A&E add Arthur to the list?).
-The unecessary information about Hook killing his father etc-it added some amount of emotional depth, but I think that it would have been enough for Emma, the woman he is supposed to love, to be able to convince him to be a better man. (I was irritated that it took our queen to do it). As I had suspected a few days ago, it added nothing to the plot. It was as if they justed wanted to shoe horn in the EQ to keep the character’s fans happy. Well, I wasn’t.
-Lack of answers as to why it was darkness that came out of Merlin (when Emma used excalibur to revive Hook) when he was only supposed to be light.
-Lack of answers as to why not knowing you are the DO would not give you any of the symptoms.
-The EQ walking into a tavern (that looked remarkably the same tavern set for all 5 seasons), and no one paying attention. They didn’t bow down or anything….I would have thought they would be all too scard of her not to!
-The scene of young Killian and his father on the boat….couldn’t they have just put a large doll in one of the beds and called it Liam? It was weird to see his father only pay attention to him.
-Emma was too easily fooled by Hook-as-Henry. It was too obvious that it was Hook as no one came through the door, and Henry was standing in the wrong place to have come through a back door.
-It didn’t make sense for Zelena to plonk herself down in the Mayor’s office and tell Robina all about her changing her mind. At that point, the character thought that Robina were going to die and all she had to do was wait that out. (I did like the comment about the old ball-or something like that).
-Oh so Regina couldn’t work the wand because she didn’t believe in herself? Not because she wasn’t dark enough? Come on! The rules of using this wand are what, again? And how convenient that her believing in herself was a suddenly a requirement to use the wand successfully. And how did she come to the conclusion that the town had come to believe in her as a hero? She has actually done very little!
-where the heck was Zelena’s baby when all this was going on and who the heck will take care of her while Robin and Regina are in the Underworld. And Roland too??? Wouldn’t want to give either to Rumple and Belle!
But yeah.
Hook sacrificing himself and everyone going to the Underworld to retrieve him-called it, as did many others, I assume. I was wrong about the point at which he decided to sacrifice himself, though. He really did despise Emma for a time! Which I really don’t get.

ParticipantThe shoehorning and flirting have already been discussed so…
1) I really hope that this Regina-Hook thing adds a lot to the overall plot. Only if it does can I accept this being crammed in so tightly.
2) If Regina and Hook did more than just flirt, then shouldn’t Regina or Hook have told Emma by now???
3) Re: Sneak Peak 2: Why is original! Hook completely gone? With Rumple he was still in there somewhere. Is it because he had already been dark in the past before he became the DO? Or is it number 4…see below….
4) I think Hook is still in there, and he will make a big sacrifice for Emma (thus revealing that he is still in there), resulting in a road trip (physically or metaphysically) to Hell/Hades to retrieve him. This sacrifice might mean Emma killing him or he killing himself. This DO performance until now is just so Emma wouldn’t hesitate to kill Hook and save herself, or throw Emma off the scent that he is about to sacrifice himself.
(If someone has already said number 4 then I apologise, I don’t look at all the threads or all of the posts in the same thread b/c I don’t have time).
5) Sneak Peek 2: Emma is back to a deep voice again. Her voice was a higher pitch last episode after she dropped the pretense and gave people their memories back. I’m confused. Is the presence of the other DOs making her more vulnerable to the DO inside her?
