ParticipantI doubt the Dagger secret will be revealed in this ep, because Bobby said the crap hits the fan for Rumple around ep 9 and 10. He’ll probably bluff his way out of this new situation, make like he really doesn’t know where The Snow Queen is hiding out, make Belle believe he’s telling the truth, just add some more lies onto the pile.
Why does Belle want to find where the Snow Queen is…???
Maybe she remembers having run into her in Arendelle?

ParticipantQuestion: If things like Emma’s flower tattoo and Mr. Gold’s mood rings were planned since early on back in season 1,
I think his ring was just a ring? Wasn’t Bobby asked about that at some point and he said that it’s just a ring he chose for the character because it looks cool, but maybe the writers will turn it into a “thing” some day if they want? Or am I totally making that up?
Interesting theories. It would be cool if the ring came from Neal, but I’m not sure it did, since we’ve never seen it featured in any of Emma and Neal’s flashbacks before now. I think Emma may have gotten the ring from the Snow Queen, who may have gotten it from Rumple.
It’s probably got Emma’s missing memories stored in it, (it was in an actual box of memories after all). We may not have magic in our world, but magical objects can still retain their magic (like Bae’s shawl), so YAY loophole so the Snow Queen was able to magic away Emma’s memories of her, (God knows how they’re gonna find a loophole big enough to get her into our world to begin with though). If she puts the ring on again now, the missing memories will probably come back. They could probably tie that into Rumple’s ring somehow if they wanted. Like, he always wore the ring because it was enchanted to activate and release his memories when he heard the Saviour’s name, or something. Snow Queen probably gave him his ring back in ye olde FTL as part of a deal.
If they wrote Hook with a brain – which they won’t – they would connect the moment where he was all, “A smile?” after 2.0 was born and the smile she has in this photo, which is that bright, true grin she ONLY has ever gotten when Neal was around (from their time together in Tallahassee through the walk in the woods in 315.) Because there is a marked difference in her being content – which she has been at times since Hook has known her – and her being HAPPY, which is an Emma Swan rarity. He’s never seen her with true, unbridled happiness, and that should present a conundrum. It won’t. But it should.
Also, it should really make him reflect on how cocky he was to Neal about how Emma wouldn’t ever want him back. Being confronted with actual evidence of how happy they were together instead of just hearing half bits of information that “oh yeah they dated once” should be a wakeup call that he was kind of an *expletive* to Neal for not having taken his relationship with Emma at all seriously.
I will say (as much as it pains me) that the final scene was the most genuine I’ve ever seen CS. I mean, I actually didn’t hate it. But again, it’s no coincidence that the emotional touchpoint of the scene did not revolve around them.
Agreed with that to a point. Though, when scrolling through tumblr yesterday, I saw a gifset of the moment he puts his arm around her and she puts her head on his shoulder, and watching just that bit over and over, her expression was really…awkward, kinda uncomfortable? And I get that she WAS awkward and uncomfortable because of the contents of the video they were watching, but just, on the heels of her moment of, “Oh God he’s really dead, he’s really not here, and I need a minute because I kinda can’t breathe and wanna burst into tears,” her expression in that moment with Hook came across kinda like, “Yeah OK, let’s sit here like this, though I kinda would prefer to be alone with my FEELS right now, but, yeah, OK.”

ParticipantIsn’t that what we want from this show? Fan service?
Not if it feels disingenuous, like they’re trying to force feed me a random tidbit in the hope it’ll placate me for a while, no. When that happens, it actually kinda feels like they’re insulting me.
I mentioned that we got a shot of Graham’s bootlace and how it felt like baiting. I actually love that Emma wears Graham’s bootlace, I think it’s a really sweet gesture, and I love it because it’s a consistent thing for her character that’s just always there. But its placement in this particular episode just felt like fanservice, given the way this ep as a whole felt like throwing bones to Emma’s various ships.

ParticipantDid anyone else notice that in Emma’s box she has a ring that looks just like Gold’s? Not being able to watch it together reallty screwed me up. My animals didn’t care about my revelations or comments.
Yeah it did look kinda like Gold’s ring. Seemed like a random thing to be pulled out of the box and made a feature of, so maybe it’ll come up again and be a “thing”.

ParticipantAlso on the ship baiting, there was a nice, clear shot of Graham’s bootlace on Emma’s wrist in that final scene too. Don’t recall having seen it recently but it was suddenly impossible to miss.
This might be due to Ginny having just given birth but the moment with Will, while funny, didn’t seem very Bandit Snow to me.
He was a criminal who had broken out of jail, he had the shovel which could be used as a weapon, alone on the beach, at night…and she just strolled up with her hands in her pockets and had a chat…and he totally played her and got himself a pardon. I know WE know that Will’s not a dangerous criminal who’d attack her, but SHE didn’t know that, and frankly she acted like a bit of an idiot. I can still appreciate the scene on account of GrumpySnarkyWill being precious and I love him so, but Snow really wasn’t at all the savvy, take care of business Bandit of yore.

ParticipantInteresting that they let it be visible that time, but looking at 403 when she was wearing short sleeves, it looks like they’ve covered the tatt with makeup so it can’t be seen.

ParticipantGot it, you haven’t forgotten Neal. And while I never warmed up with that character, I would understand if Neal fans would find such fanservice, as it is, ambiguous at best.
Speaking as a Neal fan, I wish I knew what they were trying to get at, so ambiguous fanservice probably sums it up pretty well. Watching this ep through Neal fan goggles, I saw shoutouts to him all over the place, not just the photo at the end, (they may have cast someone who almost looked like a young Regina, but things like helping Emma steal food, setting up in a house by the water, talking about making a home together, even the relationship ending with Emma feeling betrayed and lied to, all that stuff was like Neal related Tallahassee callbacks to me, not to mention they said the Snowflake’s name so many times in this ep I lost count). Emma’s reaction to seeing the photo was perfect, that’s a suitable reaction to seeing a photo of the guy you loved who died in your arms only a couple of weeks ago, and JMo nailed it. But two seconds later the moment had passed and it feels like we’re already back to, “Neal who?” so it does kinda feel like they were just throwing the Neal fans a bone. But they’ve gotta move the plot forward, no time to linger on realistic exploration of emotions like grief.
I think that final scene should have been between Emma and her parents, who would be more fitting people to share her childhood memories with. And it just seemed random that a box of her few, precious, treasured momentos was being stored at her office, as opposed to the place she was living. So having it happen at CasaCharmings would have made more sense, and had more of an emotional impact IMO.
In other news, I’m still enjoying Will, but am still a bit on edge about what exactly they’re gonna be doing with his (and Ana’s) story.
Best thing about this ep was probably the Snow Queen’s lair. It’s a decadent and awesome set, and Mitchell portrays her as really being a part of that environment. She moves and speaks with such confidence and that makes her feel like a formidable threat.

ParticipantEmma’s flower is charming’s crest & Regina also has a black feather on her wrist.
Yeah I know it’s the flower from the family crest, but we’ve never had an explanation for why she got a tatt there in the first place, but this thing with the star seems to point towards a reason. Five petal flower on her wrist to try and replace the bad memory of the five pointed star on her wrist.
And does Regina actually have the feather tatt, or is that just a Lana thing? Off the top of my head I can’t recall ever seeing it on Regina, but I dunno how often we’ve seen that part of her arm exposed anyway? I know Lana got the tatt for a personal reason to do with the defining moment in her life.
