ParticipantBTW, my logical side totally agrees with your lack of optimism. After 322, especially. The problem for me becomes that if I fully accept this is what the show is now, and that there is never any hope for it to get better, I’ll have to quit it. I can barely hang on as it is, and it’s become a Really Big Deal in my household to have that hour a week of time we carve out to watch it together. When I threatened (planned?) to stop watching over hiatus, it made Other Roomie very sad, so I’ve gotta hang on to whatever shred of hope I can that maybe, someday, they’ll right this darned thing.
*HUGS* Hang in there and get through it any way you can because it obviously goes beyond being “just a show” for you and your roomies. Sometimes I have those moments where I think how easily they could redeem the show before the end, set it back on the trajectory they’d originally planned and so clearly taken the care to set up, and I let myself wonder for a moment if it might happen. Then I sigh and get sad. Stupid show.

ParticipantI think i may have asked this before but….. out of curiosity how is the shipping fandoms when it comes to other tv shows? There’s not much that I watch where I’m too involved in shipping (the closet was TrueBlood where I went from Team Bill to Team Eric to Team This Woman Needs A Chastity Belt) but never was it anything close to what OUAT has created with its fans. With some of the more popular shows like Supernatural or…Glee…(is glee still a thing? idk what the kids are hip to these days anymore >_>) were fans so divided in their ships? Or is OUAT just special?
I confess to not knowing all that much in depth stuff about other fandoms. I do know that people can get vicious in the Supernatural fandom, because I have a friend who ships Destiel (Dean and Castiel) and I’ve often seen her upset about people being downright horrible, sometimes specifically about that ship, and sometimes just about Cas in general, saying that he shouldn’t be a part of the show at all because it should just be about the brothers. There have been instances where someone from the show will say something that the anti-Destielers pick up and run with and get all gloaty and hateful about it all, similar to what can happen in the Once fandom.
I’ve only just started to dip my toe into fandomy stuff with Arrow, so I dunno how nasty the ship wars get, but I gather there’s some contention. Olicity (Oliver and Felicity) became a thing in-show in direct response to their popularity with fans, the show runners have even admitted as such. The other day I checked out what I gather is the most popular Arrow podcast and they spoke openly about how Olicity is only happening right now as fanservice and all the reasons why the characters don’t fit together, at least at this point in the story, and they were very practical and casual about it all. They read out a message someone had sent them saying that though they love the podcast, they can’t listen to it any more because of the hosts’ views on Olicity, but the former listener wasn’t mean about it. I dunno if all ship disagreement in that fandom is that civil, but I’m gonna guess not because I do know that people seem to ship Olicity like it’s the air they need to breathe, and with that amount of feeling, people are bound to get defensive. There are other ships for Oliver too, though CanArrow is now a wreck on the ocean floor with Swanfire, but from what I’ve seen there are also people who ship Lauriver, (which is the comic book canon ship, and they were together in-show but aren’t any more), and I gather that people tend to dislike Laurel in general, so again that’s probably fodder for arguments between ships, much like what happens with people who never liked Neal.

Participant*points at everything RG said* Yeah, THAT.
Well of course it wasn’t exactly the right thing to do, but if I’d been emotionally abused by a man for five-plus years, I think I’d be inclined to want to make him hurt a bit too. Also, I really didn’t get the impression that he cared about Milah herself all that much—again, he refers to her as if she has value only in what she can give him or Bae. He mentions his son twice but never asked Killian not to hurt Milah or to spare her life or anything, just to let her go back to serving her purpose.
First of all, I don’t classify Milah as having been “emotionally abused” for 5+ years. Does that mean that when any relationship has troubles because things aren’t really working out but they try to stick at it anyway, that’s “emotional abuse”? It CAN be, but there are specific circumstances that classify a situation as ABUSE and Rumple wishing his wife could be happy with him doesn’t qualify IMO.
Secondly, Rumple was arguing with an unreasonable person, and it was pretty obvious that a guy like Hook wasn’t just gonna hand Rumple’s wife back, but if he mentioned their child, then maybe he had half a chance. Hook had actually seen Milah get up and go to her son in the tavern, so if perhaps he had any scrap of care or conscience, perhaps he’d take pity on her and let her go for the sake of her child, even though he didn’t give a crap about Rumple getting his wife back. Rumple was desperate, and was begging for the life of his wife any way he thought he might be able to save her.
Milah’s there drinking and playing dice with the pirates, and Rumple walks in and from across the table with everyone in earshot tells her condescendingly that “it’s time to go” and that she has “responsibilities” (like he’s scolding an errant child).
I honestly fail to see how Rumple was at all “condescending” in that scene. Had he hopped up on the table, hollered that Milah had shirked her parental responsibilities by leaving their child home alone so she could get drunk and whore up the town, THAT would be condescending. Quietly walking into a situation where he felt embarrassed and likely unsafe and quietly asking her to please come home is a thing he was completely justified in doing IMO.

ParticipantRumple may not have been the perfect husband from Milah’s perspective, (though I can’t condone how she blatantly disrespected him in such a public way), but no man, especially one who felt stuck and desperate, and who genuinely cared for his family and was trying to do the best with what little they had, deserves to be led to believe that his wife had been kidnapped and gang raped then likely killed, so that he had to go back tell his child that his mother was dead. And if Milah had any knowledge of what Rumple was told, (likely because she was probably below deck and could hear his altercation with Hook), and did nothing to ease his grief over that, then I have no sympathy for her.

ParticipantThis are several examples of what the new viewers.
Those poor, unsuspecting people. 🙁

ParticipantLol, oh Hook you are so hilarious. Changed have we? Who’s blackmailing who again now? And uhm Emma… yeah… put your red leather coat back on dear.
THIS!!!
Also, don’t get me started on how offensive that line is to people with disabilities. Guess they can’t love their loved ones properly if they’re missing an appendage.

ParticipantWell he can’t say he wasn’t warned, can he.

ParticipantBonnie is…interesting. Is she in love with Sam? Certainly reads that way.
She totally seems to be crushing on Sam, but then she also seems pretty fiercely loyal to Annalise as well. Like, if Bonnie walked in on Sam going off on Annalise, what would Bonnie do? Or if she walked in on Sam going off on Rebecca even? We need more info on Bonnie before we could say for sure how she’d react, I guess. Was she a student of Annalise’s too? Or a client? (I feel I’ve used WAY too many question marks in this thread. LOL)
Don’t really like Michelea
In the murder situation, I’d totally be the Michaela, completely losing it right from the getgo. But girlfriend lost me when she was all, “My bespoke Vera Wang wedding gown cost a frillion dollars so don’t you dare embarrass me or I’ll destroy you.” Priorities, honey, you’re doing it wrong.
How did Asher even get the trophy because thus far, he seems to be the worst of the bunch,
I’m so curious to find out how he gets to the head of the pack. I did like his excitement over getting to play at being a spy, but generally I’m “meh” on him.
I think Connor has the same issues with his family.
As much of an *expletive* as Connor is, I think there’s gotta be some reasons for it. Maybe his parents sent him away because they couldn’t deal with him being gay, and he was taken advantage of by a teacher who preyed on his vulnerable state of mind, and he didn’t tell anyone, instead turned it around and has used sex as his own control mechanism over people ever since. Even though he first came across as a cold person who just uses people, I’m now starting to get the sense that there’s much more to learn about him and there’s a lot of potential for character growth.
4) My leading theory right now is that Sam killed Lila and Rebecca knows. Sam will somehow get away with it and Rebecca goes to the house to confront him. Sam tries to hurt Rebecca but Annalise steps in and kills Sam with the trophy of justice (poetic!). But where is Annalise now…?
That’s the thing, would Annalise just up and leave Sam lying there? I guess that allows for someone else to find him and contaminate the crime scene. One of the first rules is to establish another suspect, and if other people had the opportunity to be present, that’d make it easier for her to get away with it. But would she wanna set the kids up like that? She’s hardcore with them, but I don’t think she’s uncaring, it’s a tough love thing to make them work harder. Maybe she expected Bonnie or Frank to show up instead and she wouldn’t be that upset by framing either of them, and it just happened that the kids got there first?
I saw a theory somewhere online a week or so ago that the whole thing was done by Annalise as their exam, which would be an awesome dark twist, but I dunno that she’d go so far as to murder her husband as a means to testing her students.

ParticipantOK, I started a thread for HTGAWM, and rambled my thinky thoughts.
Phee
ParticipantI know several of you watch HTGAWM but would there be any interest if there was a thread for it in the off topic part of the forum? I have rambly thinky thoughts about it but no outlet where I can ramble.
