The wasted potential regarding Neal and Regina’s relationship is criminal. They’re two of Henry’s parents and we barely saw them interact.

Neal has a father who was corrupted by dark magic, their relationship went to hell and back and they were finally sorting it out. Henry has a mother who was corrupted by dark magic. It’s almost like it was a perfectly, deliberately set up situation that would allow for some real imparting of fatherly wisdom as Neal continued to get to know his son. He’d have wanted to ensure that Henry and Regina didn’t experience the same estrangement he and his father did. He could have helped both Henry and Regina because now that he’s come around to understanding Rumple, Neal could offer insight of perspectives of both the child and parent side of the relationship.

There could have been, (should have been if they were keeping the character consistent) tensions with Regina feeling threatened by yet another bio parent showing up, and they could have costructed a whole arc around them working through it all and coming around to three co-parents and Henry ending up being influenced by them all (Neal had seen some stuff in his time so had plenty of wisdom to pass on to Henry about life in general, not just dealing with a villain for a parent).

And you’d think that taking the time to explore all of that would have been a no-brainer because SHOW ABOUT FAMILY. But I guess not, down the drain it goes instead.

Text it was your birthday?! Hope it was a great one! 🙂

So, what Hook told Emma again didn’t reflect how things actually occurred.

Which wouldn’t be so bad if they were actually trying to portray him as a liar (we can add his version of events when he “helped Ariel find Eric” onto this list too). But the fact they want us to just buy that whatever he says is truth without questioning him, it makes his character inconsistent and contradicts their story which is sloppy writing.

There was no dread at all in Regina’s voice, more a rather bored and snarky tone saying: Next villain, please! And Emma sounds annoyed, that yet again some villain is keeping her from doing the really important things in life.

Agreed, Regina and Emma both sound over the 4A arc already, not really an inspiring sentiment for a pre-season promo.

How then do some CSers, who also like Rumbelle, still dislike Swanfire? It seems to me like if you were rooting for Belle and Rumple to make it work, you’d have to be willing for Belle to forgive Rumple for casting her out of the dark castle and then casting the dark curse. Yet when it came to Emma forgiving Neal for leaving her in prison, you’d have to wonder how it could be so unforgivable, even when Neal’s intentions weren’t to harm her but to help her find her parents. #ThingsI’llNeverUnderstand

Because Neal isn’t a fantastical, magical, fairy tale being, he’s just a guy. He’s just a real, regular guy who made mistakes, so he doesn’t deserve empathy. Or something. Apparently.

PS. I’m glad MRJ already has yet another project in the works, can’t wait to see what it is. 🙂

Slurpeez, whenever someone says we’re stupid haters I’ll want them to read your well considered posts! So well stated and your accuracy bums me out because of what this show could have been if there was some competence from the show runners. *sigh*

(I do take some issue with how the writer of that original article categorised my beloved 24 though. ‘Tis true is wasn’t designed with an ending in mind, but the format of the show is so different to anything else, each season being one intense day, I actually think it’s quite brilliant that overall we’ve only seen about a week’s worth of days out of the characters’ lives but they’ve still built believable, emotional arcs. But y’all don’t wanna hear the thesis I could write on 24, so I’ll spare you.)

KFC, you could combine that crack theory with another of yours: Neal’s mum became a Zombie Mermaid, Neal has mummy issues from being abandoned, so naturally Neal’s gotta find true love with the Zombie Dragon. (This crack brought to you by Zombie Freud.)

She just seems to have a surprising amount of power in the two times we saw her use them for an exiled, wand-stripped fairy. When Tink gets banished, she’s mundane – if this Black Fairy who did “terrible, terrible things” was left with the capability to transform into a dragon and channel magic through a staff after having her deus ex machina wand taken away, that’s majorly irresponsible on Blue’s part.

Yeah, I could see them saying she regained powers by finding the staff, but they’d better explain why Blue didn’t strip her of the staff too if she’d been diabolical enough that she had her wand taken away.

FWIW (which may be nothing) Blue’s wand, Tink’s wand and the Black wand are all the same design. Disney’s Sleeping Beauty had 3 good fairies, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 red, plus bad fairy Maleficent. So if they made it that those matching wands are from the gang of fairies in Sleeping Beauty and that’s why they match, I could buy it.

I do hope they bring back Sarah Bolger as well and actually tell that story, rather than just showing a different aspect of Maleficent’s story, (which I wouldn’t put past them, I mean, they didn’t think Dorothy rated much of a mention in the Wicked Witch’s story, so they might not bother with the backstory of Aurora and Melificent even though it’d seem obvious that they would).

With regards to the network and A and E. It’s a big jump from the network saying, “make CS endgame or else” to A and E saying “we’ll kill Neal.”

Oh completely! Really though, after all the obvious SF setup, and the way Emma had been reacting to both men, it would have been near impossible to comply with the network’s demands for CS if Neal was still around. Writers with more conviction would have found a way to do it though, with the belief that their original vision for the story could still be proven worthwhile in the long run, even if they bowed to network preessure to give them their shiny pirate ship in the immediate future.

I also have to wonder though if the network upped the pressure to kill Neal by insisting they wanted Will next season, and there’s only so much money available to dish out to main cast, so there had to be cost cuts.

Well crap, I just saw Bobby’s post-ice-bucket tweet to MRJ where he was all, “Hope all’s well with you Mikey,” and I wanna weep. I hope they get to work together again on something some day.
