Seriously, being logically critical of a piece of media is a thing that’s allowed. And if we wanna express that critique to the people who wrote it (especially at a point in time when the future of the story is still just in the planning phase, so if ever our views had a chance of being not just heard but also seriously considered and addressed, now is the time it could happen), then that’s allowed too.

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO WRITE THIS FREAKING LINE?! WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED A CS QUOTE?! WHY DID THEY HAVE TO FLICKER TO EMMA AND CAPTAIN PLOT DEVICE?!
This show makes me more angry than I should be.
Oh, that line, that stupid, nonsensical, idiotic line.
Because in flashback, we never saw Emma being HAPPY with Neal, nope, never so much as a half smile. OH WAIT. And we’ve never seen Emma have any happy moments with Henry, who she wouldn’t have at all if not for Neal, nope, that kid has only ever brought her pain. OH WAIT. And she’s never had any happy moments with her parents either, who she wouldn’t have found or ended up back with in present day if not for Neal’s actions, nope she’s never once been happy to be with her family. OH WAIT. And also in present day, we’ve never seen her show any sort of positive care or emotion where Neal is concerned, nope, not a single second of it. OH WAIT WHAT WAS THAT SCENE WHERE THEY WERE WALKING IN THE WOODS AND SHE WAS SMILING AND LAUGHING WITH HIM, OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT HER MASSIVE WALLS OF COMPLETE AND CONTROLLING MISERY DESTROYING HER WHENEVER NEAL IS INVOLVED. Pffft. Whatever.
GAH, yeah, that line makes me angry because it straight up CONTRADICTS WHAT THEY’VE PREVIOUSLY SHOWN. And you know a line is crap when it even makes me feel defensive on Milah’s behalf, because I pretty much just wanna drop kick that woman off a cliff, but it still pisses me off that they’re suggesting she never brought Hook anything but pain. His love for her brought him PLENTY of happy when they were together.
I was looking through the #StopOnceUponAHook tag on Twitter yesterday and seeing a bunch of very valid points and I’d have RT them, or even just tweeted Adam (and Jane and ABC) to ask if they’d read the posts in the tag, but I didn’t because I KNEW I’d get pissy CSers in my @replies and at the time I had to focus on other stuff and didn’t have the time to get distracted and riled up. It’s sad that we can’t express our perfectly valid critique of the show without the risk of having random strangers telling us to shut up. But we’re the ones being mean and hateful? Whatever.

About conventions, I recall listening to a recording of a Once panel at DragonCon from the (former) host of OpCobra Podcast, and she got up to ask a question and had to tell someone what her question was gonna be about before she got to actually ask it. I dunno if that’s common practice and if they have certain topics blacklisted, but FWIW that’s what I heard that one time.
If they’d had a girl, I would’ve lobbied for “Summer Hiatus Goodwin-Dallas”.
Hiatus could be unisex, so ya never know.
For the most part I’ve put myself on OUAT timeout for now. I do still check tumblr tags and the forum daily, but I generally find that it makes me sad and/or angry and I just can’t be excited about it at all right now. My TV obsessiveness is still focused on “24” for now, rewatching the original 8 seasons. Last night I watched, like, 10 eps in a row. Seven straight hours of people getting shot, tortured and blown up, and it’s still less stressful than indulging in the show about freaking fairy tales. I’d forgotten that King Xavier played one of the big bads in S3 (drug dealer, he shot his own brother in the back, then also in the front, lovely chap, he got blown up coz he was unknowingly holding a bomb). And in S1, Lumiere was an evil henchman on a mission to kill a nice lady, and it may or may not have been terribly thepeutic and satisfying seeing him get shot. 😛
And perhaps what’s so maddening about all of this is that they could have told the current story, as-is, without him being dead.
The scenario you outlined would have worked perfectly…if not for the fact that they’d so clearly established that Emma and Neal still loved each other, so the only way to have her turn to someone else instead was to not have Neal around at all. Both times Emma’s kissed Hook, Neal’s been dead. Coincidence? I think not.
Text, I’ve also been thinking about upcoming conventions and if fans will have the opportunity to ask A&E some of these types of questions, an those points you raise are good ones that I’d love to see them confronted with. My own question would be along the lines of: “Neal’s dying words to his father effectively erased his multiple previous acts of self sacrifice over the course of his life, a major trait that made him such a brave and strong character. Why did you do that?” Unfortunately, whatever answer they gave would be halfarsed and said with a smirk which would just make me even angrier about it all. *sigh*
Breaking the rules of magic they previously established, retconning things, having OOC moments. Urgh, it’s all such a hot mess.
