Was just listening to Once Upon A Podcast, which is hosted by a couple of hardcore OQ shippers. One of them in particular was pretty much emotionally destroyed by the ending, but one of the things they said was how of course Regina can’t get her happy ending yet, because that won’t happen until the very end of the whole show. Going off that, I’ve made an executive decision about how I’m gonna cope with watching the rest of this stupid show, (because I know I’ll have to watch it right to the end). I’m just gonna watch it all with SF still as endgame in my headcanon. Dunno how, dunno when, don’t care how deluded it may be, that’s just what I have to keep in mind in order to get through the rest of it. And if the show finally ends for good, and there’s no Neal return, it’ll make it easier for me to just put the whole show behind me, but at least my deluded headcanon got me through watching the whole thing, and it will have made it more bearable to watch whatever happened as it was happening because I’ll believe that it’s only temporary and SF finding Tallahasse is still endgame. I think that’s the only way I’ll be able to watch this show without my heart continually breaking and raging over everything. Which is a sad state of affairs when I think back on how much I just genuinely loved the story, but it is what it is now. *sigh*

Also, even though he saved Charming’s life, he ended the life of Blackbeard. So he’s still a morally ambiguous character, at best, in my books.

This is one of the things that gets under my skin about it all, and it’s an extension of that post I linked to about how Emma is like a friend who gets involved with a relationship you just can’t support, so you can’t hang around and just watch it. As someone who loves Emma, I don’t want my girl falling in love with someone who has dark secrets. It’s not fair on her. She thinks he’s a standup guy, but actually no, he killed (at least) one person in the past year, and he essentially left Eric for dead as well in the process. The guy who Emma loved, Hook abused him as a kid, and Emma has no idea. He killed Rufio, and maybe other Lost Boys as well for all we know, but Emma’s allowing him to be around her kid. She doesn’t truly know Hook, so she can’t make a fully informed choice about whether or not she wants to be with him. It’s essentially the same thing as what Rumple’s doing to Belle right now. Dare I hope that they’re setting BOTH Rumple and Hook up in situations where their secrets will be exposed and their relationships will suffer because of it, (I do love Rumbelle, but right now, she needs to tear him a new one)? I have more faith in Belle discovering Rumple’s secrets than I do Emma discovering Hook’s secrets, because it seems the writers just want us to forget about all the bad stuff Hook has done. And seeing my girl Emma get involved with someone so shady, (and we’re talking serious blights on his character, like murder), it makes me angry, because she deserves so much better.

Emma : You traded your ship for me ?

Guess what Emma ? Neal gave up TALLAHASSEE for you.

Oh I saw a tumblr post about this just before that was the perfect illustration of how stupid this is. *goes to find it again*

I’ll trade you my car for a girl.
    I love my car.
I have an emotional connection with car.
I have been through intense moments in that car.

Some of the hardest moments of my worst heartbreak happened in that car.
One of the happiest moments of my life also happened in that car. (Don’t think wrong. It was a phone call!)

So, next time I pursue a girl that had said “no” to me a million times, I will follow the advice of OUAT’s love experts.

I will trade my car for the girl.
According to OUAT, it’ll go rather smoothly.

Linked for language but this articulates perfectly how I feel about Emma right now: You ever have a friend that gets into a relationship that you just cannot support?

That was left to the FB Neal scene. Even after death he was still relevant to the show which is astounding, since it proves that they can’t write him out entirely no matter how hard they try. He will always be relevant to Rumple and Emma, two main core characters on the show.

It’s like they’re trying to simultaneously show how he’s an integral part of the show still, but also show that he’s not important enough to grant a happy ending to. So contradictory.

But I don’t see anyone that happy except for CS. They’ve pretty much pissed off more the half of the fandom now. Rumbellers, OutlawQueen, SFers, Neal fans, SQ, etc… It’s just a mess.

It’s quite an impressive effort how many sections of their fandom they’ve managed to totally alienate.

You know what would have also made this a more emotional impactful episode. Having Emma time travel to EF with NEAL if he was still alive. Both reconciling their issues with each other. Both seeing what their parent’s life was like back then.

Not enough YES in the universe to everything you said about the possibility for that story instead of what we got. If you write that fanfic I’d love to read it.

Others (especially RG) have explained much of my thinking about this, so I won’t rehash those points.

Maybe they felt guilty by that and named the baby after him because of it

If that was their reasoning then it was only on a subconscious level.

What gets me about them honouring Neal as a hero is that they don’t even know the half of it, unless Rumple remembered Neal sending the note and has since told them, which is unlikely considering there hasn’t been time for that and Rumple’s been distracted. Neal splitting from Rumple so Rumple could give up Zelena’s name is such plot hole-y contradictory nonsense (Rumple had moments of coherence even when he was sharing a body with Neal, so splitting them to get the name shouldn’t have even been necessary) that it kinda grates my nerves that that’s what they all believe his big hero moment is and that’s why they named the kid after him. If they knew how Neal used all his strength to separate from Rumple and send the note to Hook, meaning they realised that they wouldn’t even have Emma back at all if not for Neal, then that might make it easier to swallow. But as far as we know, they’re not aware of that.

I also don’t think Graham would have been a good name either. >>

Graham would have been fine with me, because Graham spared Snow’s life and helped Charming escape Regina. Graham was an important player in making it possible for Snowing being together, so naming their son after him would be totally appropriate IMO.

Her being Ana’s sister is probably the most likely option just because An(n)a.

I’d have to go back and check but I think Will’s sister fell through some weak ice on a lake and then drowned? It was only a fleeting mention of her, so I could see them expanding on it.

I think I prefer the idea of her being Belle’s sister the most, just because Rumbelle is already a hot mess with the secrets and lies, so having Belle discover she has a sister when said sister is coming for revenge against Rumple for having locked her up would be the icing on the angst cake. It would also give Belle someone else to connect to on an emotional level, and a way for them to show her character grow.

Just got caught up on a whole lotta pages and firstly WORD to what you all said and *HUGS* to everyone!

slurpeez, thanks for the links to those reviews by actual critics. I may not agree with every word of them, but I do agree with much of them and it’s good to see people who are actually employed to write reviews publicly, calling out the problematic elements of the show.

Bless Shatner, can we just make him head writer plz?

DSB, I look forward to reading your fic when I’m on the computer (on my phone right now and can’t open the pdf).

Think it was Corbin who made the first bean post? God yes to how ridiculous that was! I guess we were supposed to accept Regina’s “there’s a wall between worlds” as why a bean was of no use to them, but was to Hook after the “wall” was broken with the Curse? Well Hook didn’t know about those specifics, so why was he not trading for a bean back to Emma before he even got the JR back? Logic FAIL. If it was because they wanted to show NEAL being the one to really help get her home, then fine, but considering Neal didn’t get anything good for that heroic act but Hook got all the credit instead, then NOT fine.

Neal gave Emma her definition of home. He helped set her on the path to SB, her home, TWICE in her life. It’s a perversion of the poetry of the whole freaking story that SF won’t end up having their dream of “home” fulfilled.

Shiny new crack headcanon: Elsa overheard all about the Neal situation, how Emmma wanted to save him, how Rumple could have saved him but instead forgot. That combined with Emma having brought back Marian which led to Regina’s heartbreak, will lead to Elsa teaming up with Henry to restore the TL relationships of both his mothers.

They’ll sit on the shelf until probably finale, when hopefully they find some sort of crazy Lost-esque way to get these two crazy kids to Tallahassee.

Shiny new crack headcanon (it might be the wine talking): Belle didn’t kiss Rumple until AFTER this point in time. So, when she did that, it negated the memory potion and he remembered that his son was gonna die. The reason he made Blue cough up the Black Fairy’s wand (how did Blue get that from Rumple anyway?) with the Pan stuff is because he knows it’s the only tool he’ll be able to use to get his son back. Which won’t happen until the final season.
