The thing is that while proper depiction of queer romance is an *additional* problem the idea that having queer romance, even of this sort needs some sort of specialist treatement rather than ideally having it is kind of crappy. I’d rather see them try than not at all. Even if it’s imperfect, it’s a start. Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try at all.

I was talking specifically about the case of SQ, and how both Emma and Regina would need to be portrayed as questioning their orientation. Granted it’s not something I have personal experience with, but I’d imagine it’s not just a case of waking up one day and being all, “Oh, so I guess I’m into chicks now, huh, oh well,” and carrying on like it’s not affecting you on a deeper, personal, potentially confronting and confusing level. Jane’s known for being a master of the deeper character moments, which is why I said she’d be the only writer I feel would be trustworthy with that particular same sex story line. It’s a particular case that would involve a whole lot of particular development that I just don’t think this show would have time for, so they’d likely botch it up.

If it’s just a case of showing a relationship between two people who happen to be of the same sex, who haven’t been previously established as being straight, then none of the writers should have any problem writing that story, because they just need to write it like they would any other romance.

There HAS been plenty of tension between Emma & Regina in the last few eps – like their little moment where Emma told her she always knows when she’s lying – so it’d hardly be out of left field.

In previous posts the heteronormative mindset has been discussed. If we see two women sitting side by side, the automatic first impression is that they’re just friends. And that’s a valid argument. But I see a flipside to that as well, because any time Emma and Regina so much as look at each other, Swen’s automatic first impression is that they’re more than friends. (And I’m not saying that as a dig at Swen, because hell, I’m an SFer who still sees SF connotations in the present story line, even after they’ve buried Neal, so we all view things through our own subjective lens and with our own bias, that’s just how TV viewing works.) I’ll say that the “forbidden fruit” line was some very interesting wording, but for me, that’s the only time I’ve seen SQ so blatantly implied. The scene where Emma said she knows Regina and when she’s lying and smiled at her, what I saw in that scene was that Emma now has a new appreciation for Regina. She’s got a lifetime of memories with Henry, a new understanding of being a mother, which is a new level she can truly relate to Regina on, (even if the memories weren’t real), and all of that was a gift from Regina. So in present day it’s only natural that Emma will look at Regina differently, speak to her differently, treat her differently, work with her differently. But that doesn’t automatically mean that that evolution in their relationship equates to romance.

(And for the record, I wouldn’t be seeing it differently if Emma was Emmett. Like RG said, it’s all the attempted murder and stuff that gets me. If someone had dedicated their life’s mission to destroying my mother, I couldn’t fall in love with that person, no matter their redemption arc.)

    stepham, hello and welcome! 🙂

DSB, I love your roomie! LOL

I wouldn’t want the Snowflake named after Neal. Neal as a middle name would be fine, but not first name. First name should be after Charming’s dad, as a way to segue into telling that story. Naming a kid after a parent may not be unexpected, but we don’t know his father’s name, and if it’s a well known character, that WOULD be unexpected.

I’m all about the conspiracy train. MRJ shot with a female stand in, on an indoor set, and there’s been no scene thus far that would fit where it was a thing that you’d expect pickups to be shot for. Like, the SF scene in the hospital was pretty straightforward, so that’s not something I’d think there’d have been a re-write or re-shoot necessary for, ya know. But if there was some super secret twist scene for the finale, I could see them shooting it out of sequence, and could also see them shooting each actor’s part separately if it’s something they’re trying so hard to keep secret that they don’t even tell the cast about it. It’s not a foregone conclusion by any means, but it does raise sufficient suspicion.

I know Shatner best as Denny Crane from Boston Legal. He was ridiculously fabulous! LOL

I dunno, I mean she said “burned at A stake” and called it a doozy, so I took it that she was talking literally.

And ShatnerMerlin would make my life and be totally fabulous.

I know that they have something up their sleeve that we the cast have not been made privy, in terms of the absolutely final moments of the season. I know that they are going to reveal something about the theme of next season, but we actually don’t know what it is. I don’t know that anybody does, outside of the boys and the people who filmed it.

I’ve been wondering if William Shatner might make an appearance. Not only has he been tweeting about the show a fair amount lately, he’s also gonna be live tweeting the finale, which would make a lot of sense if he’s gonna appear in a surprise twist at the end.

But other than that, we will tie up some odd loose ends, for sure, there will be a marriage, and I can tell you that someone’s going to be burned at a stake – there’s that doozy!

Emma, maybe? Though they’ve never been shown to burn magic users at stakes before. Maybe attitudes towards magic are different in an AU that she time travels to, and Emma doesn’t know that, so she magics something and gets staked.

Speaking of that Ginny interview, I just went and read the whole thing, and she says that basically her and Josh knew for ages that there was gonna be a Snowflake, and A&E knew for ages that there was gonna be a Goshling, so it was a bit of a coordinated effort. But A&E have always maintained that it was sheer fluke and they wrote it before knowing that Ginny was pregnant. Just wanted to mention that in here, in case anyone needs some inspiration to believe that A&E are trolls whose interview answers can’t necessarily be taken as gospel. 😛

TVLINE | I probably should know the answer to this, but I’ve never bothered to ask you myself: Which pregnancy came first? Would [series creators] Adam [Horowitz] and Eddy [Kitsis] have made Snow White pregnant regardless?
It’s something that we had sort of discussed over the past year-and-a-half. They knew that there was an “Untitled Ginny Goodwin/Josh Dallas Project” in the works, and we knew there was a very much-titled Snow White/Prince Charming Project in the works, and we were hoping that the timing would overlap. And they had given themselves some wiggle room in the writing. We knew that the characters wanted to become pregnant, so once we became pregnant in real life, they could say, “All right, here we go.”

Well that contradicts what A&E have said, because they’ve been all, “We wrote it before we knew they were pregnant in real life, it was totes just a lucky coincidence.”

Saw those Hook screencaps on tumblr yesterday and didn’t know if I should laugh or cry over how accurate the captions are!

Apparently Shatner is bringing out my inner artist today

Cowboy Shatner on a Rogue Bison FTW!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

He’s still the Dark One with all his powers though. I think that’s all that was meant by those previous comments. I think we were all assuming the “undoing” would be him finally ridding himself of the DO curse but apparently he’s still stuck with it now. That’s what most of us were waiting for in the NL arc and the fact that this hasn’t happened yet is somewhat curious.

Exactly. I’ve always believed that his “undoing” meant him losing the Dark One curse, losing his magic, being mortal again. I figured that had to have happened in some way when he stabbed himself with the Dagger in 311. But apparently it didn’t.

And what about the prophesy that said that a boy would be Rumple/DO’s undoing? I don’t necessary think the prophesy was about his death, but I’m not sure that we’ve seen that resolved in the current storyline.

Or maybe that’s something else that fell into a plot hole after 3A.

Almost included something about that in my previous post. I mean, Rumple was still the DO even after the stabbing, and he’s still the DO right now, so the undoing hasn’t happened yet, right?

I’m loving the Shatner love! LOL One of the things I’m actually looking forward to about the finale is his live tweets.
