ParticipantI don’t even really understand when Hook is supposed to have fallen for Emma.
The NL kiss. Said it himself in the Echo Cave that it was the kiss that made him realise he could feel something for someone other than Milah. Up until then, his attraction to her had been mostly superficial IMO. It’s not like he’d even had the time to truly know who she was, and even right now in present day, it’s not like they’ve spent a lot of quality time getting to know each other.
I also think there’s a heaping helping of him having an obsessive personality at play here. He was an obsessively straight laced Navy man. Then he suddenly and obsessively became a pirate. Then he obsessively vowed revenge for Milah and stuck with it for a couple of centuries. Emma is his new obsession, and because he never thought he’d move on after Milah, he equates what he feels for Emma as love, because surely only something as powerful as true love could make him move on, it’s disrespectful to Milah to think of his feelings for Emma as anything less than true love, and so I think he genuinely has himself convinced that it’s love. But I don’t personally think it’s straight up love that he’s feeling for her.

ParticipantWow. I didnt’ see that at all, but now that you’ve pointed it out, I cannot un-see it!
It’s making me appreciate what they did with Blackbeard on a whole other level.
But who is Hook going to apologize to for Bae–Rumple? Emma? Henry?
In that headcanon fic I wrote, I very nearly included a bit about Hook following Neal and Belle when they were taking the water to the Vault, and a Monkey attacked, and Hook got in the way to kill it and ended up mortally wounded himself, thus having a redemptive moment by saving the lives to TWO people he’s endangered the lives of in the past.
If they don’t plan to bring Neal back, then Hook’s big redemptive moment should be in protecting Henry.

ParticipantCan you jump the shark twice? If not, then no concerns about it happening this ep!
They can still jump the Ursula. 😛

ParticipantLast season Rumple snarked that maybe one day they’d invite her to dinner. Now here she is at the family dinner. It was a lovely progression of her story. That family has come a long way.

ParticipantA) He has not changed for Emma, hi, did you see him kill Blackbeard? Seeing as that was post-3A, not changed. Still pirate. (As he should be!)
I was thinking about the Blackbeard situation before and realised that it was actually a parallel to when he kicked Bae off the ship. In both cases Hook had the choice (and both times he KNEW he had a choice and that he was making a bad one), to either keep the guy on board and have a positive outcome (let Bae cool down for a bit so they could better discuss it, Hook could better apologise, and Bae could agree to stay somewhere safe VS having Blackbeard captive so he could have made him talk and give up info to save Eric), and in both cases he chose to kick the guy off, into the clutches of waiting Pan minions VS the jaws of hungry sharks.
The fact that those situations are so similar actually gives me some confidence that the writers HAVEN’T forgotten what Hook did to Bae, and that a redemptive moment for his actions might still be coming.
C) No, OUAT is not about ships. It’s about family, one big, dysfunctional, family, all connected by one little boy. Except of course a random pirate, who is only connected to the family by I) destroying a marriage, II) rendering a little boy motherless, III) selling same said boy to agents of a monster, IV) trying to kill almost every member of said family (which is really multiple items but I will consolidate for brevity’s sake,) V) assisting in kidnapping child of aforementioned boy, and VI) making a play for true love of aforementioned boy. He is not a member of the family, he is a wanna-be, hanger-on’er, who is enamored with the idea of being in wuv with a key member of the family (despite the fact that he acts at best like a fairweather friend towards her and at worst as an abuser.) And OUAT lost its way when it decided to remove a key member of the family, in favor of phasing in the pirate. OUAT is said to be a fairy tale, Emma and Henry’s fairy tale, and right now, I am pretty sure we are living Emma & Henry’s waking nightmare. It’s not about ships, it’s about the show, and this is not the show I invested 2.5 years into.

ParticipantI know she’s controlling him, but come on. Everything we know about him tells us he should be stronger and more cunning than she is.
He has a couple hundred years of extra experience in manipulation, so he certainly has the wits to get the better of her. But all those years when he effortlessly owned anyone who dared to take him on, he was in complete control. The situation he’s in now, with someone else having the dagger, is very NEW to him, so I can’t fault him for not being at the top of his game right now.
Anybody going to cheat and read all the spoilers from the Wondercon screening on Saturday?
Absolutely. This isn’t an ep I wanna go into blind. If there’s an explanation that’ll take the edge off THAT scene, I wanna know about it ASAP.

GOOD LORD! I have nothing productive to add, just felt like this pic should be quoted for REASONS.

ParticipantThe press release says, “a chance meeting with a real prince could lead Cora to the royal life she’s always craved, but she must keep her pregnancy a secret or risk losing everything,” and I’m guessing that meeting was with Leo, but it was something that happened pre-Miller’s Daughter events. Then the scene in these pics is a, “Well hello, haven’t seen YOU for a while, good luck with that snotty so and so you just married, and here, have a memory potion so you forget ever having met me before, and also forget the fact that I had a kid before I met and married Henry, because I can’t risk having you tell that to anyone ever,” type situation.

ParticipantWhy are we so convinced Eva’s married in 318?
I think we’re gonna see the Eva/Leo wedding in this ep. That dress looks like a wedding dress to me, and those big towers of white flowers look like wedding decorations.
Phee
ParticipantSo that means that Cora really is royalty at that point and is married to Prince Henry.
Yes, I’m pretty positive that these scenes are AFTER Cora has already married into Henry’s family. Just look at Rose’s posture, and the way she’s dressed, and the hair. All of that screams of a Cora who has been a royal for a little while by now IMO. She didn’t look like that when she was all dressed up at the ball in Miller’s Daughter. She’s carrying herself like Barbara Hershey in these pics. The version of Cora we’ve seen Barbara play. And that version of Cora didn’t exist before she married Henry.
