friendly reminder that a stolen convenience store keychain survived the reversal of the dark curse because it became a symbol of true love between two lost kids who hadn’t felt loved by anyone.

That thing HAS to come into play again somehow, surely. It survived the jump to FTL even when everything else on him changed. IT SURVIVED A FRICKING BODY MERGE. Then it survived ANOTHER jump back to out world. And the reasoning we were given for its power: it’s infused with true love, which is the most powerful magic of all. No ordinary stolen convenience store keychain INDEED. So help me God if that thing isn’t a vital part of some magical plot in the future.

Imagine if they did bring him back…
    And Emma saw him again…
And given their conversations in the woods…
She knows he holds no grudges for Walsh, because he’s been there too…
She knows that they totally get each other in that respect…
As well as in so many other respects because they still get along like old times…
And she knows that he honestly, truly, has no expectations from her…
She knows for sure that the “date” at Granny’s really wasn’t him pressuring her…
She knows, without a shadow of a doubt, that all he wants is for her to find happiness…
And having lost him the way she did, she now knows and can admit to herself and everyone else, without reservations, that having him back would make her happy, because she’s NOT gonna lose him again.

I need this in fanfic, if not the actual show.

In the previous episode, they had Regina tell Henry that one day he’d have more family than he knew what to do with. And in this ep they killed has father. Are they for real?

dontstopbelievin, I think you make some good points. I also just can’t shake the feeling that everything isn’t quite as it seems.

    2) No one has actually said MRJ has left the show. On the contrary; he has said he neither quit nor was fired – and A&E have indicated they’d like to work with him in the future.

Indeed! The one tweet from MRJ that does sound like he’s moved on is, “When I decide what comes next I will let everyone know here. So stay tuned…” but really, even that isn’t necessarily definitive IMO. EG, he could still have a hiatus project, even if he remains on the show. And “stay tuned” (which he said twice) could potentially refer to the show itself.

Neal has been through a lot during the whole show, and they brought him back just to say “actually he died a year ago, but here’s a little death scene bye”. Kitsis & Horrowitz were laughing at us when Adam added “We did our best.”. So your “best” is to kill the most kindhearted character of the show without his son remembering him.

I know, it just doesn’t make any sense. He’s one of the foundation characters of the show, and to treat him like this, it’s just wrong.

A hero dies because he didn’t know the price for his actions ? I don’t buy it.

Exactly. He knew all about magic having a price. Belle knew all about magic having a price. They both know what dark magic can do to a person. Yet once they found the key, neither hesitated. What is with that, seriously?

They destroy SwanFire even though we learn in the same episode that Neal & Emma have True Love ? And they don’t share a last True Love’s Kiss ?I don’t buy it.

That’s a really glaring thing for me too. Were they just confirming TL status in the hope that it would placate the shippers? The rules that they’ve established in this show is that TL is the most powerful magic of all, TL is the very definition of hope. It’s interesting, but a couple of weeks ago I was saying how they had that scene where Regina went in for the kiss with Henry, but stopped herself, and how it felt like foreshadowing that a TLK between those two is what will ultimately break this Curse, and then we’ll look back and say, “Man, if only she’d kissed him that time in Snow’s apartment, this mess could have been resolved so much quicker.” And now we have SF confirmed as TL, but there’s no kiss. It feels weirdly similar to the Regina/Henry thing to me.

Cue “quiet minds” in which Bae, now desperate to get back to his own son, throws all caution to the wind and risks everything. As Belle points out, he makes the same mistake his father made. And in doing so, he finally truly understands him.

He already understood and had forgiven his father by the end of S3A, and Rumple knew it. It wasn’t necessary to have him resort to something his father had done, in order to establish that he accepted and understood him. Having him resort to dark magic so thoughtlessly was completely out of character, given what we’d seen of him previously and his entire life experience.

And he knows that Emma will tell Henry that Neal died a hero.
    This time it is true.

Neal was already a hero multiple times over. He was a hero when he was willing to give up the only world he knew, in a bid to save his father’s soul. He was a hero when he gave himself over to the Shadow to protect the Darlings. He was a hero when he let go of Emma’s hand over the portal so that Henry wouldn’t lose them both at the same time. He was a hero when he returned to NL on a mission to save his son. It was completely unnecessary to give him a heroic death as a means to establish that he was heroic. Henry with his memories was perfectly well aware that his dad was an awesome guy, he didn’t need Emma telling his amnesiac self, “Take my word for it, he was a good guy,” after his father is gone. What he needed was for them to find a way to bring his memories back, so that he and his awesome, heroic dad could be reunited, instead of leaving Henry fatherless, just like his father and grandfather before him had been, and so the hopeless cycle of the Stiltskin clan continues for another generation.

That’s a bitter sweet experience for you! It’s a wonderful thing that the show has helped you be more understanding in your job, that’s an indication of how great this show can be. But then the new message they’re sending now, it’s just heart wrenching and hopeless, and what are you supposed to do with that.

In happier news, I just read the first chapter of this fic and spoiler for the end of the chapter…

She stood so that she was standing in front of the casket. With a tender hand, she brushed a strand of hair away from his forehead. “Oh, Neal, I love you. I wanted Tallahassee with you. I always did. But, it’s too late. I’ve realized it and it’s…too late,” Emma whispered, bending down and kissing Neal on the forehead.

A breeze wafted through the room. It was warm and comforting, but also really scary, but very familiar. Emma stumbled backwards as she stared at the coffin. Neal began to cough.

This is how the story should go on the show, but alas.

    PREACH, dontstopbelievin!!!

I just can’t shake the fact that we’re getting Philora again before the season is over, and the big thing that still needs resolution for them is how she brought him back. Granted, they could also be showing what’s up between them and Zelena, but is that really particularly important, isn’t it just enough to know that she threatened them for whatever reason? But then, couldn’t they make the two stories tie together nicely if Zelena learning how Aurora brought Philip back is how she knew that it was possible to bring Rumple back? They could just leave it as is and say that Zelena just knew stuff about stuff, but it’s a thing that she and Philora have in common now, this bringing someone’s soul back from the darkness situation, so if they DO plan to fill in that VITAL part of Philora’s history, it’s sort of unavoidable to notice the similarity to Rumple’s return. But then how do they show that stuff and make it relevant to present day in any way? It could be relevant to the SF situation. I’m not saying I have supreme confidence in the theory, I’m just saying, if they wanted to do it, it could work, and we know for sure that Philora will be back for SOME reason, and they’ve held off on revealing how she brought him back for this long, when it could have easily been covered with a couple of lines of exposition already.

What was with the promo poster for Neal? Seriously. They’d have known about this when they made that poster. We speculated that he had his hand in his pocket in every fricking photo because he was still carrying the swan pendant, and guess what, WE WERE RIGHT. And that reveal only just happened now, in S3B, not S3A when the promo posters came out. So seriously, what’s with the “Believe in second chances”? Seriously? It would be fitting if they’re gonna bring him back from death, but otherwise, it was just a cruel slogan to put on his poster.

Finally came up with an accurate analogy. It’s like A&E reached into the chest of the show I loved so dearly, ripped out its heart, and crushed it… right in front of me. That’s not bold storytelling, it’s just cruelty.

Know how sometimes you think you know someone, and you consider them a friend, and then they do something to reveal a whole other side and you feel like you never truly knew them at all and you just feel lied to? That’s how I feel about the whole show right now.

First I must stress that Im not trying to make you, or any other Neal fans, get over it and move on with this post. You do that when you want to. Im just trying to tell people my point of view and discuss it.

I know, and that’s fine. There have been many comments from people about how Neal fans should just get over it and move on though, and I know that those comments have legitimately hurt people, so just wanted to say that anyone who does feel the need to say that, please just don’t.

Neal had hope until his end. It didn’t get him much of anything, but he had it.

That’s my point though, what’s the point of having hope, of holding onto it, of always believing, if it’s just gonna get you death and suffering? They have portrayed hope as being futile IMO.

The way Henry is looking back at Emma as he’s holding that shovel of dirt. He doesn’t even know why he’s having to shovel dirt on the grave of a complete stranger. It’s just wrong.
