ParticipantTruth be told, when they first said there’d be a 4th movie, I felt it wasn’t really necessary. But God help me I just can’t get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow, and I’ve always thought mermaids were awesome, so it sucked me in.
This will be my face if it turns out that against all odds, we guessed right, and Hookriel actually becomes canon…

Unless and until it’s dissproven on the show, I’m gonna go along my merry way indulging in it.[adrotate group="5"]Phee
ParticipantPotC: On Stranger Tides was on here tonight, and of course I had to watch it, not just because those movies are so fun, but I’m being all obsessive about mermaids and pirates these days. 😛
Anyway, of course the little love story between the human (Philip) and the mermaid (Syrena) got me pondering Hookriel, and not that I expect them to lift ideas from the PotC movies, but if they lifted this particular theme, I wouldn’t be mad…
Philip and Syrena’s “thing” is “you are different,” (for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, basically, mermaids are dangerous, murderous beasts who launch a frenzied attack on humans, and Philip is a Christian missionary who has ended up travelling around in the company of pirates who take Syrena captive). They each say it to the other at some point.
Philip: Such beauty, surely you are one of God’s own creations. And yet deadly.
Syrena: Deadly? No.
Philip: You attacked me.
Syrena: No. You are different.
Philip: Different?
Syrena: You protect.
Philip: *realising what actually happened* You pushed me down out of the way.And then my brain went off on this whole tangent about how Ariel was spying and overheard Hook’s conversations with Bae, and saw how despite his inner conflict, what he’d truly wanted to do was to protect him. So then at a later date, Hook ends up in the water somehow, and Ariel’s sisters are flocking in to attack, and then in swoops Ariel to save him, because she knows he’s different to the other humans in NL who the mermaids usually go after if they get the chance, humans who imprison children.
And it’d be so utterly romantic because it would mean that Ariel had seen the good in him all those years ago, even though he couldn’t see it himself, but now he’s finally trying to make a true effort to change, and when they get together in present day, she can be all, “I’ve always believed in your good heart,” and we can all be overcome with FEELS because of their perfectness and how some things are worth waiting for, even if you have to wait 100s of years.
Anyway, back to the movie and there’s a later scene where Syrena’s been tied up for ages and Philip comes to set her free.
Syrena: You came for me. Why?
Philip: You are different. Are you not? Do you know not of kindness, compassion? And I imagined Hook saying something similar to Ariel after he discovers she’s the exception to the rule about mermaids being evil and dangerous, because she saved him.
So basically, I spent half the movie being distracted by potential Hookriel FEELS and had one of those moments where I felt like the potential is so perfect that I might just cry if this crackship doesn’t end up as canon, and I had to get it out of my system by posting this. *sigh*

ParticipantWell, we dunno that he wasn’t in the bubble, or that another area wasn’t also protected, but yes, that’s pure speculation. I’d only really want RH to be alive in present day FTL if he’s also Tamara’s father, because I’d love to see Neal meet him if that’s the case. If it’s not the case, then I’m fine with him just being in flashbacks instead.

Participantthey are the classic Hollywood monsters that everyone knows–the werewolf and Frankenstein, even if Frankie isn’t technically the monster,
And Frankenstein’s Monster and the Wolf Man were famously in a movie together, which may well be where K&H got the idea to pair these two up in the first place.

ParticipantThere ARE people who ship Red with Charming. Â There are people who ship Charming with Regina. Â There are people who ship Red with Snow. And so on and so forth.
Over enthusiastic shipping isn’t exclusive to this show, it happens all the time in every fandom. Do I understand why people wanna ship SleepingHook? Nope. But there are plenty of people who don’t understand why I wanna ship Hookriel. And that’s fine. As long as people just go on their merry way and ship who they want without it hurting anyone else, then there’s no harm caused by it. (I know some members of some of the bigger ships sometimes get out of hand with arguing and get really mean, but I like to think those types of fans are the minority.) It fuels people’s creativity, getting them to write fanfics and make fanart, and that’s all good stuff, (I may not ship SwanQueen, but that fandom has some great artists).
In the case of FrankenWolf, it’s been stated that they WERE planning on exploring that relationship more before their focus for the season changed. So it’s not just that they had one conversation. At the time, they were legitimately laying the groundwork to develop their story. That doesn’t mean everyone has to personally like it and ship it, I’m just saying that in that particular case it can’t be written off as fans reading too much into things.

ParticipantHope they tweet pics of the other two pins ASAP. Â They’ve got me all curious now. Â They’re nuts if they don’t put them up for sale after Comic-Con. Â Those things would sell like hotcakes.

ParticipantIf that prize is Hook…
Oh, if only!  Just have Colin stand at the ship’s wheel all weekend and have contests where the winner gets to go up and hug him. 😉

ParticipantOne of the reasons I think FrankenWolf would have been a really interesting relationship is that it would mean that Mr Anti Magic would fall in love with someone who is biologically magical. Â Would have been a great way to show some growth for him as he learned to accept that. Â They’d already shown him grudgingly accepting that magic was worthwhile when he asked Rumple to put his arm back on, and then he had the, “everyone thinks we’re monsters” bonding moment with Red, and it could have built into a great storyline for them as he came to terms with accepting magic as a part of his life and learning how it could successfully co-exist with his belief in science.
And it could serve the story well in S3 if they wanted to show him struggling with which side to choose if THO bring more of their science to SB. Â He’d be torn emotionally between his life’s work and his girlfriend, and it’d be some good TV.
If by some miracle they suddenly announce that Meghan will be available to shoot some stuff at the start of the season, and if David ends up back in Vancouver at the same time, I’ll be super excited. Â They didn’t have Whale showing interest in Ruby all the way back in S1 for no good reason. Â FrankenWolf were totally intended to be endgame and I’ll ship it even if we never get the chance to see it on the show now.
