Coz no one else seems to have googled it yet: Yaoguai…

Yaoguai is a Chinese term that generally means “demon”. Yaoguai are mostly malevolent animal spirits or fallen celestial beings that have acquired magical powers through the practice of Taoism. The evil ones are usually referred to as guร i (literally, “freak”) or mรณ (literally, “demon”) in Chinese. Their greatest goal is achieving immortality and thus deification. In Journey to the West, the demons seek this mostly by the abduction and consumption of a holy man (in this case, Xuanzang).

As for Belle and Mulan teaming up, it must take place between Belle leaving the dark castle and being captured by Regina. Perhaps after Belle’s scene in Dreamy.

Yeah it’d have to be. Belle’s always wanted adventure, and after having her heart broken by Rumple she probably figured she had nothing to lose, so she may as well run off after a dangerous beast. What interests me about this is where exactly it’ll happen. Mulan and the Yaoguai are both Chinese, so was there a Chinatown area of FTL, or did they both come from some other land through a portal, (one of the hat doors looked kinda Asian, from memory)?

Also, how do these events lead into Belle being captured by Regina? Wonder if we’ll see that in this ep too?

Also, this gives Mulan a history with a SB resident, (other than Snow and Emma), and I wonder if they’re setting that up because they plan for Mulan to end up in SB eventually and it’ll be easier to fit her in if she and Belle remember each other?

And poor Smee. He’s going to be Mr. Gold’s new guinea pig isn’t he? GOOD! He deserves it for kidnapping Belle.

Smee would be a logical candidate just because we know Rumple already had him prisoner. What ep were the pics of Smee and Hook from though? Coz that suggests that he escapes Rumple’s basement at some point.

I’m guessing this is after “Archie” assuming he’s the death is found to be alive.

Hmmm, dunno. The fact that Red is also in that scene with him and Regina, makes me think that it’s before anything allegedly happens to him, so that when something does happen to him, Red is all, “I saw him arguing with Regina,” which is why everyone assumes she’s responsible. The scene at Granny’s where they’re all smiling seems like it probably comes towards the end of the ep though, so everything will work out fine and no one will actually be dead. That’s my guess anyway. Wonder who or what they’re toasting to in that scene.

Storybrook has no choice but to exist they cannot humanly produce all the goods they have so, they have contact with the outside world (we also saw Kathryn apply to Boston university and get accepted).

That’s one thing that always stumps me, how did they get the provisions to survive, because they’d have to have come from the outside world somehow. The only thing I’ve come up with to explain it stems from the idea that you have to know about it in order to find it. So if Regina arranges for things to be delivered, the delivery people get explicit directions. Then perhaps the city limit has an affect on real world people in that they forget about it once they cross back into the real world. That way, there’s no risk of a delivery guy saying to his wife, “I went to this lovely little town in Maine once, there was a B&B called Granny’s, maybe we could go there for our anniversary vacay.” Anyway, I dunno if how SB gets clothes and food and whatnot imported is necessarily something that’ll ever be explained. I suspect it’s just something we might have to suspend some disbelief over, and just accept that it happens somehow.

As far as things like Kathryn getting into university, and MM being sent to jail, and arranging for Hansel and Gretel to go to Children’s Services, I’m just not convinced that those things were legit. If Regina controls the lines of communication in and out of the town, she can say that anything and everything has been arranged with organisations out of town, knowing that if anyone tries to leave, something bad will happen at the city limits and those people won’t be a concern any more. Think about it, if Boston Children’s Services was legit waiting on two kids to arrive, and they didn’t, (and Regina knew that something would happen to prevent them from leaving SB, coz that’s just how it works), that’s gonna raise questions in real world organisations that will want answers, which means people will start getting curious about SB. Regina doesn’t want that hassle, so I think she keeps it all contained and faked.

    Ummm…

3 days ago, he was hanging out in Vancouver with other cast members, as evidenced by pics tweeted by Lee Arenberg.
Less than 2 days ago, he RT a pic that a fan had sent him.
14 hours ago he tweeted Faustino Di Bauda (aka Sleepy), and their exchange was:
@colinodonoghue1 Happy Holidays my friend see you soon:)
    @FaustinoDiBauda you too sir.

…so I have NO idea where you got the impression that he’s disappeared.

Hello, fellow Brisbanite, welcome to the forum! ๐Ÿ˜€

Was hoping this evening’s storm would cool things down a bit, but it didn’t seem to help much.

As I said, that would mean that all other worlds such as Neverland, Oz, Wonderland, etc., were unaffected and still up and running while doing business as usual. For me, that’s the only way the OUAT Trinity of Bae/Neal/Peter could work.

They haven’t confirmed as yet what state the other worlds were in during the cursed years, so I think it’s entirely possible that they were still up and running, and still are. Regina’s only real concern was screwing with the inhabitants of her own world, and Rumple created the curse to get to our world, so I don’t see why all the other worlds would have factored into it.

We’ve now seen how Hook ended up in FTL, so we know that wasn’t a result of the curse, so the curse didn’t necessarily screw up Neverland. Same deal with Cora, she came back from Wonderland pre-curse. Other characters we’ve seen in SB who are associated with other lands:

Jefferson – If Regina had figured out that the whole attempt to bring back Daniel had been fake, then of course she’d punish him by specifically writing him into the curse with the stipulation that he can see and remember his love, his daughter, but was unable to be with her. So if he was an isolated case, there’s no need for Wonderland to have been screwed up.

Victor – Again, if Regina had figured out about the fake attempt to bring Daniel back, she’d have every reason to want to write Victor into the curse, to punish him by taking him away from his land, and his brother. So if he was an isolated case, there’s no need for his world to have been screwed up.

Smee – Hook’s ship was in FTL, so it’s likely that his crew was there too, and if not his whole crew, he’d at least have likely taken Smee as his right hand man, (or should that be left hand man?) and it just so happened that Smee was outside the safety bubble when the curse hit. So again, no need for Neverland to have been screwed up.

So unless and until they show one of the other lands during the cursed years, or in present day, I’m gonna assume that they were unaffected.

(and this one I don’t want to say because I’d also like it if Hook became Ariel’s Eric) But In Ariel’s Beginning we learn that Ariel’s mother was killed when pirates came to the reef and she got crushed between the rocks and the boat.

Oh interesting, I’ve never seen that, so just looked it up…

King Triton and his wife, Queen Athena, rule over the underwater kingdom of Atlantica, which is filled with music and laughter. They have seven young daughters, the youngest of whom is Ariel. The merfolk are shown relaxing in a lagoon above water, and Triton gives Athena a music box. Suddenly, a pirate ship approaches. Everyone escapes except Athena, who is crushed by the ship when she tries to save the music box.

The use of the term “lagoon” makes me think even more that Ariel will be a mermaid in Neverland’s Mermaid Lagoon. They could potentially still have Hook be Ariel’s Eric, even if it’s his ship that inadvertently crushes her mother. It wouldn’t be like Hook had killed her intentionally, and Ariel may be able to see past that, while Triton wouldn’t, which would amp up the animosity between them, which would end up driving her to go to Ursula for help. Perhaps?

But more importantly, Peter Pan is one of those characters who can travel between non-magical/magical worlds, so there’s a good explanation for why he wasn’t caught by the curse. My personal theory is that he was in our world when the curse hit – and that prevented him from going back to Neverland. And so “the boy who never grew up”…well, grew up.

That’s part of my theory about how Bae could have also been Peter Pan and still ended up in our world. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Going back to the first part of your comment though, if Barrett does end up being someone who is in our world, but visits SB, then that’s a nice little nod to how Peter can travel between magical and non-magical worlds, so could be a hint to his identity.
