ParticipantI thought it was kinda ehh too but I figured it was part of arthuian legend or whatever. Is it not?
Nope, I googled that the other day to see, but the only magical gauntlets I came up with was Thor’s gauntlets that he has to wear in order to wield his hammer. Which might actually make sense in the context of us knowing Rumple also has Thor’s hammer. But the (singular) gauntlet in show has a totally different power to Thor’s gauntlet(s).
When I first saw the magic gauntlet, this character from the Aladdin TV series came to mind. The young evil sorcerer Mozenrath, who was voiced by Jonathan Brandis:
I remember dragging myself outta bed on Saturday mornings to watch that Aladdin show, always hoping it’d be a Mozenrath ep so I could hear that voice.

ParticipantWhen he was on his honeymoon and he saw the hat and a chance to free himself, he wasn’t doing it for the power—he was doing it so he wouldn’t have to have the fear every day.
I must be watching a different show to the one they think they’re writing, because all I’ve seen this half season is the establishment of Rumple as being greedy for ultimate power, I haven’t been seeing him as fearful.
Sure that explanation makes sense, and fans have suggested that it was being controlled by Zelena that messed him up, but in the actual show it’s been more like them sledgehammering us with “He wants AAALLLL TEH POWERRZ,” IMO. A little monologue to himself (or Neal’s grave), lamenting what he’s doing but that he’s being driven by fear of being controlled after his experience with Zelena was essential to have if that’s how they wanted him to be perceived.

ParticipantNow one could ask why the Author would do such a thing? Perhaps he (or she for that matter) wanted Belle to cast Rumple out into the cold, dark, Land Without Magic.
I could see that, I just hope if they went that way they wouldn’t use it to excuse the depths Rumple has sunk to and have Belle decide it wasn’t really his fault, and that she wasn’t justified in being upset, because the big bag Sorcerauthor manipulated them into acting how they have.
Zeus or Phil from Hercules- This is another wild guess. Honestly the only reason I am suggesting it was because in the Belle flashback during the winter finale, we saw all those Grecian helmets and things in Rumple’s house in the Enchanted Forest and I just thought that was odd. And Hades I am ruling out because why would a villain write stories where he would never win (that is also why I am not writing the names of any villains on this list).
Considering there’s a movie for them, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hercules and Hades and Co on the show at some point. If it seemed they were going to keep Ursula’s goddess status I might think they were gonna introduce the Hercules tangent as part of that, but Ursula seems to have been demoted, so I dunno.
I’m torn on the idea that the Sorcerer is Merlin. On the one hand I’ve been wanting more Arthurian legend. But Merlin as I understand him seems a bit too “real” of a person who would be a tangible part of the world, someone everyone can interact with, which doesn’t really fit with the mysterious, reclusive, unseen, almost ethereal Sorcerer they’ve set up.

ParticipantI kinda rolled my eyes a bit at that interview answer because it’s like they were all, “Wut, you think Yen Sid is srsly an option?” when they went and cast someone as the Apprentice who looks very much like Yen Sid.
Yenserlin
I dunno about that being the name of a character mashup, but it totally sounds like a ship I could get on board with.

ParticipantWhat I don’t get is why everyone else didn’t go through the door and back to FTL? Or at least hold a town meeting and give everyone the opportunity to decide for themselves where they want to live.
This didn’t bug me until you mentioned it, and now it bugs. I know the door was Arendelle specific, but I’m sure Arendelle would happily take in some Mist Haven refugees and/or give them a boat and some supplies to help them on their way back to ye olde EF.
Anyway, as for the Frozen characters, I’ll miss the friendship of Elsa and Emma, but apart from that I’m relieved that their arc is over. The actors were great in the roles, but the whole Frozen insertion will always rub me a bit the wrong way just because it is what it is.

ParticipantUrgh I could rant forever about that Colin interview. Couldn’t keep myself from responding to the thread for it but tried to keep my point concise. *HEADDESK*

ParticipantBut I think it’s kind of nonsense to compare Hook to Neal and vice versa anyway. You could write down a lot of things, especially that happened to them and making them who they became, and it’d probably apply to either of them fairly well.
The previous comments weren’t from people randomly trying to draw comparisons by pulling them out of their butts. Colin straight up said that Hook and Emma were alike and she didn’t have those similarities with anyone else, and that’s a straight up innaccuracy, both in the sense that she hasn’t had it with anyone else and even that they’re the same in the first place. Emma grew up alone and abandoned and became a petty thief in order to survive. Hook grew up with a stable career and a brother he was incredibly close to and ended up plundering and killing as a pirate. Those experiences do not equate with each other. The way Colin chose to describe Hook in this interview is a more accurate description of Neal.

ParticipantI am so tired of this whole “town line” thing. The explanation was very hand-wavey: “Oh it’s Ingrid’s leftover magic and there’s absolutely nothing we can do”. Didn’t they say that when Ingrid cast the Spell of Shattered Sight, it took all of her magic? (Hence Arendelle melting)
And the only reason Marian was still freezing was for the OutlawQueen drama. There’s no real reason for it to have happened.
Ingrid’s magic was so plot devicey in this ep. It’s gone enough to break the big bad nasty evil spell so everyone’s safe. It’s gone enough that they can take the wall down. It’s not gone enough to take down the town barrier. It’s gone enough that Marian thawed out. It’s not gone enough that she can’t re-freeze. What is consistency?!?!?
The entire situation just sucked and was set up so there could be no “winners” because Robin won’t easily be able to get Regina out of his head, Regina is heartbroken, and Marian is stuck with a husband in love with another woman.
Yup, pretty much. I didn’t like how Marian was treated. She was even willing to stand up and step aside and was more understanding of the situation than I’d have been. But then they had to go and have her standing in front of everyone at the town line with every single one of them looking at her and knowing that Robin was only leaving with her out of forced obligation. That’s humiliating for her.
I think the best situation would be Robin falling back in love with Marian the more he comes to remember that earlier love. It is possible to fall back in love with someone you loved before, especially now that they are the only two adults from their world, alone against the world, fending for their son. Yet, the way it was written was such that it seems that Robin is going to carry a flame for Regina.
It’s infuriating that they established in the previous ep that old love can be rekindled and just forgot about it in this ep.
I’m sure Robin will be back. I’m sure the ring will play a part and it’ll be incredibly romantic when he finds a way back to Regina and puts the ring back on her finger. And I’m sure I still won’t warm up to them because I’m just not a fan of how they’ve been written thus far.

ParticipantI don’t see Rumple intentionally physically harming Belle.
I could see one of his Minions trying to hurt her again though, and that might be what snaps him out of his bad attitude so he can be a HERO and save her.
Phee
ParticipantAnd yeah… utter shame that THIS is what Bae gave his life for.
If anyone needs me I’ll be curled up in a ball sobbing over the disrespect from Rumple and the writers.
