ParticipantThanks for all the links!
Can’t wait for more info on these new princesses! Magnolia does sound like a combo of Mulan and Pocahontas, but I’d hope they’d not combine the two, because they really both deserve to be there in their own right. Could it be possible that they’re actually auditioning for two separate roles with that one casting call? I noticed a comment on the imdb board for this info that Mulan actually means Magnolia, so it’s pretty obvious that’s who the character will end up being. Would make sense for that character to be included in the first ep if they’re gonna kick it off with the battle to take back the kingdom.
Also saw someone say this about Anastasia:
“Polished princess” and “shiny veneer” look like clues to a daughter of King Midas. Seeing that Anastasia Griffith, Once Upon A Time’s “Abigail/Kathryn Nolan,” has filmed a new series for BBC America (Copper) in which she has a major role, could this be a cryptic casting notice for a role that would be another daughter of King Midas – or someone to replace Anastasia Griffith in Once Upon A Time and become a new Anastasia on the set?
Interesting theory.
The official list of Disney Princesses is Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel.
The description for Anastasia comes closest to fitting Jasmine, I guess, (assuming that the character will be from this shortlist, though of course it could be someone entirely different), but then, they’re not asking for someone with that particular nationality. Hmmm, time will tell, I suppose.

And besides, why would he all of a sudden want more power when just a few episode prior to the finale he was willing to give it all up for his son? It makes no sense. Rumpel’s engame (so far) has been to find Baelfire and give up his powers. So, his recent actions conflict with what we thought we knew about him. The finale only confirmed that we in fact know nothing about this character.
My initial reaction the first time I watched it was to be shocked and disappointed in him. Hasn’t he learned by now that having his powers is counter-productive to winning back the love of his son? SMH But now I’m just eager to learn more about what he’s up to so I can keep trying to figure him out.

But my main question is why does Rumpel want there to be a final battle? Has anyone ever wondered why he would want that? He created the curse so that he could find his son, so why would he want to start an Apocalypse immediately after he found him? I think that’s another aspect about his character that keeps the audience guessing. He seems to want multiple things at multiple different times.
Maybe he just wants everyone else to destroy each other so he’ll be the only truly powerful one left?

ParticipantThis is a great thread. Lots of options discussed and most of them seem potentially plausible to me. I’m really interested to see who Henry’s dad ends up being.
The only idea I’m really subscribing to at this point is that I really think it’ll turn out he was married and had an affair with Emma. She’s hinted at having been involved with a married man, and I know that part of the story she told Henry about his dad was bogus, but I don’t think it was all a lie. I can’t get past the bit about how he always asked for pumpkin pie, and Emma seemed to be remembering it as a quirk in him she’d found endearing. Can’t help but take it as a “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater” shoutout. He, “had a wife and couldn’t keep her,” and also, “had another but didn’t love her.” I don’t think it means he’s THE Peter, character from a nursery rhyme brought to life or anything, I just think it was a hint about his personality and his story.
I wouldn’t have a problem with Henry’s dad being some ordinary person from our world, and think he could still have an impact and play a vital role in the story without being Bae.
As things are right now, Regina is on the outs, and Emma’s gonna be wanting custody of Henry. If they now have access to the outside world and vice versa, (I know we don’t know if that’s so yet, but considering Mr Gold was planning a trip, I’m guessing that the barrier between Storybrooke and our world is now gone), Regina could very well go looking for Henry’s father just to throw a wrench in Emma’s bid for custody. And once an outsider comes to town and gets involved with these people…
@Oncescape wrote:If muggle means a normal person, then oh agreed, Heather. It would be interesting for the show to ever face a threat of outsiders figuring out fairy tales are real and what they would do if they did. ? Would he try to blackmail them? Would there be more magic power hungry people descending on their town? Could add some urgency to the “We must get back to fairy tale land.”
…exactly! It could potentially add a whole new dynamic to the show if Henry’s dad is just a regular person from our world, and through his connection to Henry and Emma, Storybrooke could become exposed to our ordinary world for what it really is.
But then it would also be a great storyline if he ends up being Bae and that ties Rumple to the other characters in a whole new way. So I really don’t mind which way it ends up going. I could certainly see that Bae could have become a tormented man if he had to grow up in our world with his FTL memories, so Emma saying he wasn’t a nice guy could certainly fit. And the whole Baelfire/firefighter thing could potentially be a huge hint.
I also haven’t given up on the idea of Bae having become Peter Pan though. Oooo, crackpot theory time…he originally went through the vortex to Neverland, became Peter Pan, who had the ability to travel to our world and at some point opted to stay here, aged, and ended up being the Peter cheater from the nursery rhyme who got Emma pregnant. Or would that be too convoluted? LOL

ParticipantLuckily for me, right after the finale aired, my fave group (New Kids On The Block) began their Aussie tour. Travelling around the country to go to all the concerts and meet the guys, meeting a bunch of online friends for the first time and going to the concerts together, and then the post concert depression after they’d left the country, followed by a week of wishing I was on the New Kids’ Cruise with all my friends, (I’ve been over there for it the last two years but missed it this year and was super sad about it *sigh*), and keeping up with everything that was happening on that cruiseship, and then also keeping up with their tour as it has continued on to South America…all that has consumed my every fangirl moment for the past month, and totally distracted me from Once withdrawal.
Have been so distracted, I haven’t even caught any eps of Once on Aussie TV yet, though it always makes me smile if I happen to see one of the ads for it.
But now that I’m almost over the current round of emo ups and downs of fangirling over my boyband, I’m just about ready to get stuck into the emo ups and downs of fangirling over my show again. Have got caught up on podcasts, gonna do some re-watching and get caught up on the forums. Then I’m sure I’ll be feeling the withdrawal and wishing it was time for season two to premiere already.

Their happy moment won’t last. You can see it a mile away. Their relationship will die because his need for power is much more than his need for love. Maybe that will change with Belle, but blah….he didn’t learn his first lesson with Bae.
I was surprised to see him going for the magical powers. Initially I was kind of disappointed the writers went there with his character, but thinking about it some more, it’s setting up some juicy Rumbelle stuff for the future. I can’t see her being thrilled with it if he goes down that path again. To give them an instant happily ever after would have been a bit boring. If he wants her love again, he’ll hafta earn it.
@celesstarr wrote:
Although it did feel like too much progressed too fast…I think this is a way for the writers to satisfy the Rumbelle fans right away..and then really dig into the plot for season 2..ofcourse exploring the theme of love vs. power as it would seem.
Yeah, they couldn’t exactly dedicate the entire episode to them, which needs to happen in the future so they can flesh out their relationship. But if they weren’t reunited at all by season’s end, there’d have been a whole lotta unhappy fans.

Nice catch! I hadn’t thought of that.

I didn’t so much throw things, as much as my jaw was ON THE FLOOR for the last 10 minutes of the whole thing.
THIS! I’d called a few things from promos and spoilers, but when that purple smoke started billowing all over the place because Rumple was bringing back the magic…I had NOT seen that coming, so I was all wide eyed and open mouthed. 😮

Or perhaps he didn’t find Henry. Perhaps MS did and arranged for Gold to “procure” him…without Gold being aware of the arranger behind the curtain.
This is the idea I’m leaning towards now. Kitsis and Horowitz confirmed in that chat they did on Facebook the other day that Mr Gold only remembered when he heard Emma’s name. So there’s simply no way he could have consciously brought Snow and Charming’s grandson to town for Regina.
So this is the new theory I’ve cooked up…
Mother Superior, still with all her memories, kept tabs on Emma all through the 28 years. When MS became aware that Emma was about to have a child, MS wanted to ensure that that child was kept safe, and the best place for him would be right under her nose in Storybrooke. So at that time, MS somehow planted the seed for Regina wanting a child. Maybe she suggested that a child would bring something into her life that was lacking. So Regina went to Mr Gold, coz he was the go to guy in FTL when you wanted to deal in the baby trade. Then Mr Gold went to MS, who, as the head of the convent, would be most likely to know of any children in town who were in need of being adopted. -
