ParticipantIt’s fun and fitting that they used Jefferson and Grace for the names, continuing the 70s rocker theme, kind of in honour of Roger Daltrey lending his voice to this ep.
Also loved that the Caterpillar’s only line was “Who are you?” considering that one of The Who’s iconic songs is “Who are you?” and the lyrics ask that question over and over.

The man who answered the door eating the carrot in “Dreamy” is a nod to Alice in Wonderland.
I figured he was Jack Sprat, judging by the fact he wasn’t eating fat but had a fat wife.
Speaking of vegetables in nursery rhymes, I figured that when Emma was telling Henry about his father and she said how he always used to ask for pumpkin pie, that was a shoutout to Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. I don’t believe he actually WAS Peter, because I don’t believe Henry’s father is from FTL, but it seemed too specific of a detail to not be a shoutout to the nursery rhyme. Especially considering we know Emma’s been involved with a married man at some point and, well:
Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had a wife but couldn’t keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had another and didn’t love her;
Peter learned to read and spell,
And then he loved her very well.Phee
ParticipantI think I like this idea! I like it even more because that story mentions Cupid, so if my guess about that arrow Snow used having been from him is right, borrowing from this legend could be a way they could work it into the show. 😉
Also like that it mentions how the resulting tree was evergreen, because Regina’s tree has been flourishing whenever we’ve seen it, (and she replied “not for long” when Mr Gold said it was a mess after Emma hacked the branch off, so maybe it re-grows quicker than a usual tree?).
Though, yes, Regina said she’s had the tree since she was a child, but mia’s suggestion that he could have just been made part of an already existing tree would take care of that.
And I like rumplegoldfan’s thought that it’d explain why EQ’s weapon of choice to take out Snow was an apple. If Snow was somehow responsible for Regina’s love being turned into an apple tree, an apple used as the weapon for revenge is quite poetic.
The more I think about this possibility, the more I love it.
The idea that Cora cursed him to be trapped in the tree is great. Another possibility is perhaps Regina finds out that Cora is gonna kill him, so she goes to Rumple for a way to save him and he traps him in the tree because it's the only way he can stay alive and Regina can still be with him. That could play into the part from the legend about Daphne begging to be saved and being turned into a tree. Maybe in our version of the story, our Daphne begs for her love to be saved.

I do not think REGINA loved anyone… including her father…. but her father was who served her best and who would be most missed by her.
Not real love but probably the best she had.
Surely there must have been some actual love there though, or the curse wouldn’t have worked. She had to at least love him more than she’d loved her horse.
I thought it was fitting she’d named Henry after her father, if not a bit twisted. Yes, it’s an honour to name your child after a parent, (or another family member), but that name also means that lil Henry is a constant reminder of her most despicable deed. Between that and the fact she keeps the box that daddy’s heart was in on her desk, maybe it’s her way of punishing herself for what she did.
Or maybe her having a Henry to look after in this world is somehow a way of trying to make up for what she did to her father. She needs to do it to ease her conscience somewhat, (generally speaking I don’t believe Regina has a conscience, but what happened with PapaMills is the exception to prove the rule). In her mind, perhaps giving her son Henry the best in life somehow makes up for taking her father Henry’s life.

ParticipantIf we ever find out where that bow and arrow came from, it’ll be Cupid’s, not Robin Hood’s. 😛

ParticipantFound ’em! In “Snow Falls”, the scene where Emma is walking in wearing the blouse of Regina’s that Henry gave her. It’s the father who appears to be eating a bowl of soup, (or maybe it was porridge), has a spoonful, waves his hand like he’s trying to cool it down and says, “Hot,” then the mother says, “Mine’s cold.” You’ve gotta listen closely to catch it.

ParticipantIn the pilot, Leroy’s whistling “Whistle While You Work” at the very start of the scene where we see Emma’s eye when she wakes up in the cell next to him. It’s a slower, melancholy rendition, but it’s definitely that song.
Speaking of bears, there’s a scene and I wish I could remember the ep but of course I can’t, anyway, it’s a scene in Granny’s and someone walks past a table, might be Emma, but don’t quote me, (how vague can I be, sorry LOL). There’s a family sitting at a table, on the left of the screen, looks like a father, mother, and a child, and the child is complaining that their food is too hot. They’re totally the 3 bears from the story with Goldilocks.
And I know everyone reckons that bow and arrow is to do with Robin Hood, but I still reckon Rumple stole it from Cupid.

You know one thing I’ve wondered about since the very beginning of the show? Isn’t Gepetto a single man in, at least, the Disney version of Pinoccho? I don’t recall the story talking about a widower or maybe it just didn’t go into that much detail. But in the pilot episode when Emma is in jail in Storybrooke and (I can’t remember Gepetto’s SB name now, sorry) Gepetto is in the Sheriff’s office he makes a comment about how he wishes he had had children but he and his wife were never able to have children. I found the mention of his wife strange – where is this wife??
Geppetto didn’t have a wife in any version of the tale, (and we’ve seen no indication of a wife in Storybrooke). I just figured what Marco said to Emma was the story he believed from his implanted memories. Makes him miserable if he believes that he’s lost a wife AND that they never had a child, and Regina’s all about making people miserable coz they don’t have their happy ending.
BTW, from Geppetto’s wiki page: “Geppetto is introduced when carpenter Mister Antonio finds a talking block of pinewood which he was about to carve into a leg for his table. Geppetto drops by looking for a piece of wood to build a marionette, seeing a perfect opportunity, Antonio gives the block to Geppetto.” So it wouldn’t be veering much from the original tale if our version of Pinocchio had been carved from part of the magical tree.

This was a theory That august is Augustus Le Plongeon Augustus was 19th century traveler and writer who claimed their was a lost continent of “Lemuria” … lemurs anyone?
That’s quite interesting! Even mentions Nepal. I’d figured he was named August after a close friend of the Grimm brothers, August von Haxthausen, who helped them with their story gathering and writing, but this Lemuria guy is a possibility too.

Again this is fourm post in another site.. that has a possible picture of Pinocchio in storybrooke eliminating the pinochio theory
The photo that person posted as being Pinocchio in Storybrooke is actually just one of the set photos from the filming of “The Stranger”. The full set of pics is here: http://storybrooke.net/photos/thumbnails.php?album=173 As you can see, they were shooting Faiytale scenes with Geppetto, Pinocchio, and the actors who voice Jiminy and the Blue Fairy were there too.
