ParticipantThis show is screwed up when it comes to CS. It is so unhealthy. I’ve listed a load of reasons for why I dislike Hook this episode in the Favourite/least favourite moments thread (Seriously there is only one thing in like, a few things in mixed, and a massive list in dislike which features a lot of Hook).
It is one thing to show an unhealthy relationship, acknowledge it’s an unhealthy relationship but still like the relationship in a “I like the relationship but I know it’s not a healthy relationship” kind of way eg Joker and Harley Quinn from Batman, but it’s quite another to show an unhealthy relationship and then present it as if it’s the most romantic thing in the world that should be idolised by young fans. Hook showed a controlling side by ordering Emma to get on the horse. As bad as Hook has been in the past, tonight he was just unpleasant towards Emma. That is not a healthy relationship and shouldn’t be made out as such.

ParticipantFinally watched the episode.
Liked:
“The pony’s smarter than the pirate”
Mixed:
Emma having DORumple in her head- The show could elevate this plot point into one about Mental Illness and how the rest of the characters react to Emma hearing voices in her head, having conversations with hallucinations, etc. In other words, how would the fairytale characters deal with someone with a mental illness. However, the show seems to be going for a big middle finger towards the issue of mental illness. All the “crazy” people are “evil”. Therefore they get rejected by their loved ones because they’re now “evil” eg Hook towards Emma last episode. This plot line has so much potential, yet like always, this show completely and utterly wastes it. How about showing characters accepting someone with a “mental illness” and loving them just the same because they’re still the same person, instead of being all “OMG we have to fix you! We can’t love you until you’re better and not having mental issues!”
Hook’s expressions when he realised Henry has a crush on a girl- They were funny and I liked the teasing, however, that’s the sort of behaviour you’d expect from perhaps an older brother or a friend, not a father figure which is essentially what Hook is supposed to be because of his relationship with Emma. Emma and Henry come as a package, Hook can’t have one without the other.
Snowing putting their family first- Arthur’s quest to destroy the darkness seems reasonable, as does Snowing’s desire to protect Emma. However, Snowing have a bad habit of constantly putting themselves and their family before others despite being self-proclaimed heroes. Snowing family motto is “screw the peasants! So long as we’re okay”.
Disliked:
No Belle- A&E are wasting Emilie.
Snow asserting her dominance over Charming- Sometimes I wonder what Charming sees in Snow because she comes across as very high maintenance.
Guinevere cheating on Arthur just because he’s focussed on his work to unite the broken kingdom by finding the DO dagger instead of focussing on her. If a man puts all his effort into work in order to provide a stable home for his family/subjects, does that give his wife the right to have an affair just because she feels she’s not getting enough attention? Also Guinevere goes from “I’m going to finish this damn quest so I can get the man I LOVE back” to kissing Lancelot awfully quick.
Lancelot- Here’s the thing, did Arthur ask Lancelot to plan Guinevere’s birthday party since he didn’t have the time because he was too focussed on his work, or did Lancelot do it off his own back? If it’s the former, then Lancelot should’ve said that Arthur asked him to plan the party. If it’s the latter, then I would say that Lancelot was deliberately making moves on Guinevere especially with the flowers.
When Emma tells Hook about seeing imaginary Rumple (Or DO Clippy as screwball ninja calls him), Hook then makes it all about him- It’s annoying how Hook does this. Listen to Emma, comfort her, reassure her, Hook’s demons are irrelevant because they’re not there dressed in leather, talking to him and trying to make him do bad things.
The screw up in timeline- There is no way in hell that DO Rumple could be in Camelot “5 years ago” since Belle was only starting out at the castle when he got the gauntlet. Either there’s been a severe cock up or there’s been a massive oversight in the subtitling and A&E should really shape up and proof view their episodes.
Arthur telling his entre plan to Snow and Lancelot- That was just stupid. You know they’re going to want to stop you, so don’t tell them your plan so that they can figure out a way to stop you.
Hook stealing a horse, quite possibly from Violet’s farm- Because that is what you do when someone welcomes you with open arms, you steal their things. Not to mention that Henry is going to look bad because it was his people that stole Violet’s horse.
Hook insulting the yellow bug (Emma’s pride and joy) then ordering Emma to “stop talking to the demon in your head and get on the horse”- Not only is this condescending, but the horse has shown that it doesn’t like Emma, what makes Hook think its going to let Emma ride it. It’s moments like this that show that CS is not a relationship that should be idealised by impressionable members of the audience. It’s controlling and unhealthy.
Hook’s speech about trust and how he’ll “never stop fighting for us” (stealing Belle’s line) is laughable after how he treated Emma last episode. Belle has actually demonstrated that she’s not going to give up on Rumple, Hook goes running when the going gets tough. He needs to man up or walk away, not push Emma away because of her darkness (or in other words being mentally ill) then come crawling back proclaiming his love the moment she gets “better”
Hook claiming that Emma believing in him solved her problem of seeing DORumple- Emma never saw DORumple all the time anyway, a horse ride doesn’t magically fix things.

ParticipantWell…at least Belle probably gets to stand around in the background while the “heroes” puzzle over where her true love is, right?
(Yes, I’m always a little annoyed after an ep of zero Belle, sorry.)
KEB … you do realize the only reason they have BELLE as a regular was because of the overwhelming fan response to BELLE and Rumple… I do not think that was originally planned.. she was suppose to be a limited character more like CINDERELLA and Aurora. I always considered it lucky we got any stories for her at all … so when she shows up along the heros that is a good thing.
Belle and Rumple are easily the most interesting relationship on the show. Yes Belle proved popular after Skin Deep but I think A&E always intended her to be around in at least a semi-regular capacity because of the fact that 1) She’s in a relationship with Rumple. 2) they had her locked in the asylum instead of having her actually be dead, and 3) they can’t seem to just let Rumple and Belle be happy together. There’s always something separating them for one reason or another. At the time A&E didn’t know if they would get Emilie because she’d done a pilot for a show that may have been picked up. When it didn’t get picked up, A&E snapped her up and gave her regular status whilst they had the chance so that they didn’t lose her because Belle is an important part of RumBelle and is essentially Rumple’s morality chain. If they couldn’t get Emilie, they would’ve worked round it until she became available again but I think Belle was always a part of the story going forward, it was just a question of Emilie’s availability.
However, A&E often waste Belle’s character and I think Emilie has been very good to tolerate it. She knows them from Lost so maybe that is why she’s more willing to let it slide plus she still gets paid, but A&E could definitely do more with Belle’s character. Hopefully this year is her year.

ParticipantI’ve still got to watch last night’s episode. Once now feels like a chore to watch, it never used to but I’ve steadily fallen out of love with the show. The Frozen arc is what killed it, that’s when Once stopped doing their own take on fairytale characters and just started doing live action animated Disney.

ParticipantRatings are in for episode 504 “The Broken Kingdom”
Viewers: 4.85 million
Demo: 1.6
We’re losing eyeballs, but the demo remains steady. However, if more eyeballs leave, the demo will start to drop again.
I honestly can’t see Once going beyond a season 6 at most. I think season 5 is it. As you said in an earlier post RG, we’re down to the loyal viewers, and Once is even starting to lose them. Once has lost it’s heart. It’s an empty shell of its former glory.

ParticipantNow I can’t help but picture a training montage between Rumple and Merida, with the Sara Bareilles song “Brave” playing in the background. “Honestly, I wanna see you be BRAVE!”
I’m thinking more along the lines of “eye of the tiger”

ParticipantI quite liked the camera spin marking the passing of time and how you saw Maisie’s character go from happy and bright-eyed to something darker and jaded.
Also loved the 10th Doctor flashback and the recognition that Capaldi was in that episode. (Ironically, so was Amy Pond’s actress)
I honestly enjoyed this episode. For me, this episode has been the strongest one of Capaldi’s run so far.
This season as a whole has been better than the entirety of season 8 and I think that is entirely down to the fact that the writers have realised that Clara is meant to be a companion and so have now put her in the companion role and allowed the doctor to do the heavy lifting instead of vice versa.
The words “duty of care” seem to be cropping up a lot and I definitely think it is foreshadowing Clara leaving. I think how Clara leaves will go one of two ways: Either the Doctor will fail in his “duty of care” and Clara dies, or the doctor will abandon Clara back on earth because he has a “duty of care” to keep her safe and the longer she is with him the more danger she is putting herself in. Ether way, Clara’s leaving! Woohoo!
In conclusion, definitely the best episode of Capaldi’s run so far.

ParticipantI guessed that title as an end of series title in that thread that used to be around. It does not surprise me that they are using that title for the end of Emma’s dark Swan act.
