I haven’t watched the episode yet but I saw clips of Zelena’s song and Emma’s song on youtube. They were both really good and I think Zelena’s song is my favourite. Why couldn’t all the songs be of that quality?

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantThis is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I’m not overly impressed with the EQ’s song. The dancing is ok, but the song itself is not memorable or as punchy as it should be. Typically villain songs are meant to be the best, but I would say EQ’s song is the weakest of the ones released so far.
Snowing’s song is reasonably catchy. The song suits their characters with their “We consider ourselves heroes therefore we’re morally superior to everyone else” attitude, plus Ginny and Josh have great voices. However, it feels too Disney in the sense that it doesn’t suit the tone of the show we’ve watched for the last 6 years. t’s quite jarring in that way.
Hook’s song is fun and Colin’s great in it. It works better than Snowing’s song in that it’s not AS Disney but it is still too Disney for the tone of the show itself.
My overall opinion of what I’ve seen so far is that, when you take this episode on it’s own, it’s fun and whimsical. However, within the narrative of season 6, it doesn’t work. It’s too out there. The writers would’ve been better off setting this episode as a dream to explain the weird and wackiness yet still keep to the tone of the show that we’ve had since day one.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantOne of the strongest episodes in season 6. Series wise, the majority of Rumple episodes tend to be good. I just wish they’d make use of Rumple and Belle more.
I actually felt sorry for Black Fairy. In many ways Tiger Lily was to blame for everything. If she’d never shown Fiona the book of prophesy or brought her fairy books then everybody would’ve gotten on with their lives quite happily. What sort of person tells a new mother that their baby is going to grow up and die because they’re the saviour and just expect the mother to be okay with that? Fiona’s actions, whilst morally wrong, were understandable. I even felt sorry for Malcolm. He was grieving for Fiona and his upset was mistakenly directed towards Rumple and the fairies just stood by and said nothing. His “How can I raise him alone?” was basically met with a “get on with it”.
I like the domestic moments between WickedSisters, trying to assemble the cot plus failing (though why couldn’t Zelena just bring Robin’s crib from her house?) and the driving lesson. OUAT needs those domestic moments between the characters to make them feel like actual people rather than just pieces to move through the plot. I’ve noticed Regina has gone back to her season 1 hairstyle. Also why did Regina buy such an awful looking car for Zelena? It looks like a green Ghostbusters car which worked for the Ghostbusters but not as an actual car to be driven generally.
I dislike Tiger Lily and Blue, they caused all the problems this episode with their interference. They could’ve just watched from afar and only made their presence known when necessary, but by doing what they did, they made Rumple’s life a misery.
Emma seemed more like season 1 Emma this episode and even had her red coat. Though that blue top she wore in the house was awful. Why is it Emma acts like Emma outside of scenes with Hook, yet when she’s in a scene with him, her fashion sense goes all wonky?
I like Hook asking Henry to be his best man but where the hell had Henry been since it was dark when he arrived home and he was about to run upstairs? Hook got a bit defensive when it seemed like Emma was mocking his superstition about not seeing the bride before the wedding. I don’t blame him for being defensive but the delivery just seemed like he was being too defensive. It just seems a bit odd, it’s almost as if CS’s interaction don’t always hit the note that they are supposed to. I would’ve had Hook deliver the line differently.
Snow continues to grate with how insensitive she is to the ordeal of others. Someone’s just “killed/banished” their mother to save Emma? “Oh good, we can have the wedding tomorrow”. Snow seems to get more and more self-centred with every passing season and considering she was such an integral part of season 1 with her selflessness, it’s a shame.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantI think if they killed Rumple, it would basically be spitting in the faces of RumBelle fans, especially as RumBelle don’t get any considerable happy screen time together- they’re either fighting or one of them is off-screen or asleep.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantAnother point that should be considered is HYPE. It’s new, it’s exciting, let’s see 15 years (more like even 2 months) how does it stand against OMWF. From the little I’ve seen so far (2 songs and the “love is the more powerful magic of all”), I really don’t think it’s going to be better, it seems really cheesy and corny, whic OMWF isn’t because Joss made sureto put dark themes into the songs (estrangement, depression and abuse) while OUAT uses the same themes they used for their characters (Hook -revenge, Regina – hate for the charmings, Snowing – love, Emma – lonliness) because this is what their characters are about and nothing more. In adfition, while Colin, who is probably their best singer, has a great talented voice, he is nowhere near the level of James Masters, Tony Head and Amber Benson.
OMWF was born from Joss Whedon’s passion while OUAT’s musical seems more like a gimmick.
If there was a Like button for this post, I would be pressing it.
I agree with everything you’ve said. None of the OUAT songs are memorable unlike the Buffy ones.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantIt seems going from everyone there including hardcore Buffy fans this musical is better than Once More with Feeling.
Doubt it. First off, you’ve only got a relatively small audience, who are probably predominately CS. Secondly, probably an even smaller number consider themselves Buffy fans. Therefore you can only base your assumption that this musical “is better than Once more with feeling” on the words of people who are BOTH Buffy and OUAT fans otherwise you have an unfair bias eg non-Buffy fans would say it’s better than OMWF whilst non-OUAT fans would say its worse.
Now the people who are both OUAT fans AND Buffy fans may have enjoyed it more than OMWF and that’s fine, that’s their opinion, but to make a sweeping statement that ” this musical is better than OMWF” is a bit of a stretch.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantSorry but I am rather creeped out by the fact that Hook “met” Emma while she was in utero. It’s just….weird.
Could be worse, he could’ve “met” Emma at her conception.

All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantAnother domestic moment lol. It makes sense that Zelena would need to learn to drive as she can’t magic her way round town anymore.
These types of moments is what the show has been missing for a while. It became too focussed on plot that it forgot about the characters themselves.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantSounds like they’ve ripped off Buffy via deep feelings being (reluctantly) expressed through song because of a magical object causing issues.
The writers could’ve just kept it simple and had the characters partake in a karaoke night as part of Emma and Hook hen/stag do.
