I agree that he didn’t have the ring on his hand when it was chopped off.  The very first time we ever saw it was in the episode when he and Emma had their first date – they did a close up of his hand and it was on his pinkie.  I imagine they will take some liberties and say that he has either kept it on a chain (which we know isn’t true) or had it locked away on his ship when he got it back (which also wouldn’t make sense since it poofed with him to Camelot and we know he didn’t tell everyone to hold on while he ran back to JR to get something).

My bigger point is that the size of the ring and the fact that he says that he believes it has helped him survive makes me think it was his mom’s and it part of the lead in to a back story.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time they have changed a detail to make it fit with what they decided to do later in the show.  I’m guessing they are also going to need something here in the next episode so that Emma can feel guilty about “taking” it from Hook if/when something happens to him so she can say that if he hadn’t given it to her he wouldn’t have been hurt/killed.  And maybe if Emma has it, Hook’s dad/mom/Liam will recognize it if we go to the Underworld.

I was actually confused by this part of the episode.

I thought that Merlin was the only one who understood how the sword really worked since he was the only one who really knew the true origin of the sword and what it was supposed to be used for.

As far as Arthur was concerned, didn’t he just think that he needed the sword, the completed sword, to be the rightful King of Camelot (which is still confusing to me because he KNOWS he isn’t really the King of Camelot so technically putting the sword together won’t magically make that happen anyway so why even try.)

If Merlin has been trapped in a tree for years, I’m guessing he didn’t tell Arthur all the secrets about the true origin of the sword and when he was released from the tree he was none too happy with Arthur so I don’t think he was about to fill him in then.

So how did Arthur and/or Zelena know they could “tether” someone to the sword and control them?  Were they just assuming that would work because the dark one can be controlled by whoever possesses the dagger?  How did they know the magic or spell you have to use to “tether” someone?  Did it only work on Merlin because it was really HIS sword or could they have tethered someone else to the sword?  Can you “untether” someone from the sword or do they have to die and someone has to replace them as the “tethered” like with the dagger?

It’s quite possible these questions were answered and I just missed them.  I have a husband, two teenagers, and a dog in my household who aren’t exactly quiet when I try to watch the show so sometimes dialogue comes across as ” . . . mrmph uhhhfu gluu Mary Margar  . . . survivor.”

I’m guessing this is supposed to be the same ring he wore on his pinkie on the hand he had “reattached” on his first date with Emma.  I figured we would be seeing that ring again – it felt like they made a big deal about making sure we “noticed” it on his hand.  Since it fits his pinkie it is small so I am guessing it is a woman’s ring which makes me think it is supposed to be his mother’s ring.  I think it is part of the lead in to Hook’s past that I am sure we will get this season.

I rarely, if ever, say anything negative about my beloved show.

With that said after last night’s episode there I sat, wine glass in hand, and asked out loud to no one in particular “What the Hades did I just watch??”

I feel like someone swept the floor of the editing department, bagged as much as they could fit into a ForceFlex Hefty bag, sorted through the dropping of every episode they have filmed thus far, and then forcefully created an episode of random subplots that were in no way related.

I don’t even know where to start.

Okay, the first scene.  I love Belle and I truly feel the poor girl gets screwed out of screen time, so I surprised even myself when I didn’t understand why the heck she was there – glad to see her but I honestly forgot she wasn’t back in Storybrooke babysitting Neal as usual.  Then there’s Merida who, I’m very sorry to any fans, just annoys me because I don’t see any point to her existence on the show in either human or bear form.

Rumple – oh, sweet Jesus.  Does Robert Carlyle read his script and just start drinking?  Note to writers – when the teacup has already been broken more than once it is no longer dramatic.  We get it, Rumple = coward and he doesn’t think he will ever be a hero cause there was that one time he clubbed the holy heck out of his own foot. For clarification sake, thanks for the additional dialogue of exactly why Rumple clubbed himself – that was the point I poured myself a much larger glass of wine.  Psychotic-Scottish-arrow-wielding-Dark-One-controlled-plotless-assassin goes after them and Rumple wisely decides leaving Storybrooke sounds like a fine idea. . . until Belle reminds him of the many reasons she has to stay.  Please tell me I have missed something.  I have watched every episode of this show at least twice and by my calculations Belle should have been telling him to move over because she could drive out of town faster, you know, due to his self-inflicted foot injury and all.

I don’t even know what to say about the hot mess of the “adventure” that Belle and Merida went on to save Merida’s brothers – I was too busy laughing at everyone in that scene.  It was the most anti-climactic rescue mission ever.

Thank goodness Rumple had his magic “throw it in Merida’s face and she won’t be a bear anymore” powder after he was tossed like a rag doll across the forest so he could earn the well deserved title of “hero.”  I love a good redemption storyline.

Dark One Emma and Zelena bonding over prison maternity stories while munching on onion rings.  Just. No.

That mushroom and the Evil Arthur, and everyone in Storybrooke is either stupid or suffering from memory loss or both.

This was such a bizarre episode.  Merlin’s mushroom had holographic video capabilities.

    The struggle was real.

I haven’t posted really anything in a very long time but I am very entertained by all of your theories.  I am really enjoying this season so far but my only problem is in trying to do my own predictions of what might happen with the Emma/Merlin/Arthur/Excalibur storyline.  There are like 25 different versions of each individual legend so trying to figure out which way they might take the story (and, of course, twist it) is mind-boggling.  Then you throw in Hades and all the possibilities with Greek Mythology and my brain is just fried.

Haven’t posted here forever either but thought I would pop in and share my TLK/curse theory as well.

I think that both people have to be fully committed to being against the curse and 100% invested in the other person.  If someone doesn’t have their memory than they can’t be 100% invested in the other person.  Oddly, I actually think BOTH these things are the problem right now.  Just like we saw when Belle first kissed Rumple, the Dark One power embraces the curse.  So even though EMMA really does love Killian, because a part of her is being controlled by the Dark One power she can’t be fully committed to being against the curse even when SHE wants to be.  And for Killian, even though he really does love Emma, because she is currently the reigning Dark One (and as we saw he has chosen NOT to give into her when she is being controlled by the Dark One) he cannot be 100% invested in who Emma currently is right now.  That doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Emma Swan as much as he always has and isn’t willing to fight for her as much as he always has been.  It just means that when he kisses Emma now, he knows that she is not really HIS Emma at the moment so he can’t be 100% invested in her – hence the reason he was able to walk out the door when she invited him to stay at her house.  It makes him all the more aware that he needs to find a way to destroy the Dark One power and save HIS Emma.

Hi.  Haven’t been here forever but have been quietly watching and mainly looking through pretty pictures on tumblr.

Wow!  Did Colin nail playing Rumple disguised as Killian or what??  That was brilliant!!

So I totally despised Rumple the first half of this season but I’m going to be interested to see what they do with him this half.  I love Robert Carlyle playing creepy and funny Rumple and psycho-Gold, but he also plays “wounded” really well.  No excuses for how he treated Belle – I was thrilled when she made him kick himself over the town line BUT . . . I would like to see Rumple GENUINELY realize how he has ruined his life and hurt and/or destroyed everyone he has loved.  Up until now I think he has “thought” he was remorseful for things and “thought” he understood how to love people, but really, besides when he was a child and was left by his father, I don’t think he has ever really cared for anyone that he hasn’t ultimately believed he was able to control and therefore was never in the position of actually “losing.”  Even with Bae – when he “lost” him to the portal he didn’t know he was going to lose him, he believed he was in control of his son because no one would ever dare take him away from him because he was the dark one and Bae was still a child.  And he always believed he could get him back with the curse.  And when he did find him again he always believed there was some way he could “convince” him to love him again.  Then when Bae “chose” to die, he didn’t have to truly deal with any of horrible things he had done through the years to get him back because everyone was so focused on the fact that Neal had died a hero that no one really paid any attention to the fact that Rumple’s prized possession and sole reason for creating the curse was gone.

This time it’s different.  This time Rumple has to actually face what he was scared of from the very beginning – that he was never truely worthy of Belle’s love and that NO ONE could ever love him, but the problem now is that he now has to live with the fact that Belle DID love him and he screwed up so bad that he made her want him out her life so badly that she used a method that she believed would NEVER allow him to come back.  And now not only does he have to somehow deal with that but he has see that Belle isn’t like how Killian was when Rumpke killed Milah.  She isn’t mourning her “loss” – she has accepted that she was wrong about him and she is able to move on with her life with someone else very quickly, which on this show is purposely  shown to prove that someone was NOT someone else’s true love.  At least I believe that is what they are trying to show that Rumple believes.  I do still believe that Belle and Rumple are/were true love but Rumple is one severely messed up dude and I think it is good that they are having Belle understand the depth of his problems.  And I think it is good that they have separated the two of the them.  I don’t think Belle and Will make sense but I don’t think they are supposed to – I think Will is just a plot device.  But I like how Belle said that he makes her smile.  I think the problem with the dysfunctional relationship with Rumbelle was that the idea of what Rumple COULD become is what always made Belle smile – but who Rumple actually is now is not someone she really wants to be with, or SHOULD be with.  Rumple and Belle are the exact opposite of Killian and Emma.

Hey @killianhookfan, are you around?? Why on earth are you allowing these random women to do your job??? Embedded image permalink

I’ve been so busy I haven’t been around much!!

Now that’s what I call getting up close and personal.  Guyliner Specialist – that is a seriously important job.  I wonder if there are other job responsibilities or if this is the only one – I’m sure he goes through a lot of the stuff.  I can think of worse things than staring into those stunning blue eyes all day!!

I think something similar to what happened in the Frozen storyline flashback could happen that will make Emma realize that something isn’t right with Killian.  Remember we had pictures of Killian in jail just like Anna was in jail when Elsa was pretending to believe that Anna was trying to trap her in the hat but Elsa KNEW her sister would never do anything to hurt her..  I think something similar will happen and it will make Emma realize that something is not right with Killian because he would never hurt her and would never do anything to hurt her magic.  She will then realize that he is being controlled by Rumple and figure out that he has Killian’s heart.

Remember how everyone said they couldn’t wait for the day Rumple found out Regina had Belle locked up in the hospital for 28 years??  I can’t wait for the day Emma finds out Rumple ripped out her boyfriend’s heart.

I am sorry but what is with the Charmings lately? They keep making bad parenting decisions. I can’t believe they were actually okay originally letting Emma lose her powers.

It shocked me there was less resistance from both Charming and Snow once they learned from Emma herself that she was going to get rid of her powers. Like they didn’t ask how that was possible, if it was safe…they just accepted it was okay and moved on. Only Elsa and Hook were the only two concerned about what that meant for Emma; Hook knew how it was probably going to happen and Elsa realized what Emma was going through because she went through the same and saw, that it wasn’t okay. I think it also reinforced how Snow feels about Emma.

As a parent myself, I really didn’t like how they portrayed the Charmings last night – especially Daddy Charming.  I am NOT one to jump on the “Out of Character” bandwagon but I felt like something in particular he said was totally out of character.  At one point Charming said something like it might be better for Emma to go ahead and get rid of her powers because it would allow her to be normal.  That is not EVER something that Daddy Charming would say about Emma and that is a terrible thing to say about your child, no matter how old they are, I was not surprised that Elsa AND Regina were horrified by the fact that they felt that way.

Seriously, substitute ANYTHING “different” in place of “magic” and see how it sounds to have a parent say it might be better to have their child get rid of it so they can be normal.  “It might be better for her to get rid of her asperger’s so she can be normal.”  ” It might be better for her to get rid of her wheelchair so she can be normal.”  “It might be better for him to get rid of his dyslexia so he can be normal.”  “It might be better for him to get rid of his blindness so he can be normal.”  Wow, that sounds like a super parent.  Because the message you are sending is that you are NOT normal the way you are.  Granted, parents want to do everything they can to help their kids live the fullest life possible, so doing whatever they need to do to help and support Emma with her magic – wonderful.  Just like good parents would do everything they can to help and support their kids with any of the above.

“Normal” is a relative term – and actually one of the things that I found surprising about the fact that they chose to have Charming use the word.  We are talking about fairy tale characters from the EF Forest here.  Is it really NOT normal for people to have magic there?  Can someone please describe what IS considered “normal” to those people???

In my opinion, each individual person’s life is normal to each individual person.  My son is a ballet dancer.  One of his ballet dancer friend’s mom has a huge problem with the fact that her daughter doesn’t have a “normal” childhood because she has to spend so many hours at ballet.  When she starts to complain about this I always ask her “What is a normal childhood?”  She says something about going to parties and football games and being a cheerleader, and having time to go out with friends.  I point out that I was very involved in musical theater at that age and didn’t do those things and ask her which one of us was normal and which one of us was abnormal?  Or is your daughter the normal one and BOTH of us were abnormal kids??  My childhood was normal to me, her childhood was normal to her, her daughter’s is normal to her.

I just don’t believe that the man who told his daughter that she needed to keep living and learn to find the good moments in life would then turn around and say – but maybe being normal would be better than being YOU!
