I think what Hook means in the promo is that he has literally become a different person because of Emma.  He CAN’T even go back to LIVING like a pirate because he ISN’T a pirate anymore.  So it would not have been possible for him to remain true to his word to think about Emma every day while living like a pirate – he might have thought he could. He might have thought he could get his ship back, go out to sea with his crew, and drink rum while he thought about her but at the end of the day he stopped being that person when he became part of Emma’s SB “family.”  I think Hook very much understands that Emma is his home – and not just Emma but her entire family.

I was thinking about how Emma has really never had to live WITHOUT Hook – her memory loss spared her from that which is why I think we are a bit sensitive to the way she sometimes talks to him when we are VERY aware that he knows what it is like to have to live without her for a year.  I’m sure he had hoped he could do exactly what he did do numb the pain when he lost Milah – except he realized he isn’t that person anymore so he COULDN’T find a way to drown the pain.  He simply had to LIVE with it – for a YEAR.

Now it’s a year later and he knows what he has had to live without for a year – not JUST Emma, but Henry, Snow, Charming – then he loses Neal after coming to understand what home and family really means to him and where his home really is.  I think he is doing a really good job of pushing Emma when she needs to be pushed but remembering who she is because she HASN’T had the same year to recognize what she had to live without.

I really had to think about this today because I wanted to rip Emma’s head off last night after the “leather conditioner and eyeliner” comment.  But I have the feeling we are being baited by A and E on purpose.  I have the feeling Hook is going to be the thing that is going to pull together EVERYTHING that defines home for Emma.  And I think when it happens it is going to hit her hard and she is going to realize that she didn’t appreciate him for everything he is and does for her.  He is her rock but she doesn’t realize it.  If something happens to that rock or it is threatened in a major way I think she is going to suddenly panic and be forced to recognize that she has loved him all along and hasn’t necessarily treated him very well.  Like in a gross sobbing, almost lost Henry kind of way that might just require TLK.

I think this pretty much sums up the CS’ers attitude toward the NF & SF fans right now… http://dashingkillian.tumblr.com/post/81310679220/if-they-can-hug-it-out-so-should-we

    This is great!

@Slurpeez108 I’m one of the folks on this board that have been around from basically the very beginning like you (with periods gone here and there).  Believe me that we ALL feel terrible about how hurt you all are, and that we also shed tears during Neal’s death.  Heck I sobbed today just reading a well written recap!!

I worked as a Hospice Nurse at one point during my life and this is, oddly, very much like a real death for both SF shippers as well as for CS shippers even though we all recognize Neal was a fictional character.  Everyone handles grief  in very different ways and this situation is no different.  But in working with families who have lost a loved one, consistently the most difficult time for most people tends to be the point where they realize that life is going on as normal for the rest of the world but life will never be the same for them again.  I think this is kind of where the fandom is right now.  As CS shippers we feel terrible for your loss but we also feel helpless because we don’t really know what we can do to help – there really isn’t anything we can do to help except to allow space for you all to grieve together while letting you know we really do care.  But then we are also still amongst the living and unfortunately are unintentionally hurting some grieving people by going on with life.  I’m not talking about the people who are being purposely mean or trying to egg people on – that’s just cruel and immature.  So we are bound to end up saying some things that might hurt right now because the wound is so fresh but please know we aren’t doing so intentionally and we are trying to keep within our CS thread so we don’t risk hurting feelings unless it is some kind of generalized topic.  No one WANTS to write anything that will hurt someone’s feelings but right now I think that writing about the death from different perspectives is bound to be painful.

I hope SF shippers won’t boycott the show.  We ALL fell in love with OUaT before we starting shipping and before we got wrapped up in individual characters.  I kind of lost interest during S2 but then picked up and fell in love with it all over again.  I think the same think can happen for those who are mourning Neal if they give it a bit of time.

    Hugs to you.

Okay, wait.  So is someone suggesting this person from OUaTiW  might be a potential love interest for Emma??

I don’t watch OUaTiW but when I clicked on the link and saw the guy my initial reaction was that he and my 12 year old would enjoy playing Minecraft together at his next birthday party.

Please excuse me while I take a moment to wipe the tears from my eyes after the good laugh I have just had at the thought of Emma Swan deciding THIS guy is her Tallahassee.

I wonder if Jane will get to write the episode where Emma goes to jail again . . . for statutory rape.

This is an excellent recap. I cried reading it. http://nerdygirlnotes.com/2014/03/31/tv-time-once-upon-a-time-3-15/

Wow.  Just.  Wow.  I have never before cried reading a recap of a show before but I just sat here with Kleenex sobbing like a baby.  This is the BEST thing I have read so far about the episode – things I didn’t even think of that kept making me nod my head “yes, yes.”  The way Neal died actually makes SENSE to me after reading this whereas before I found it to be mostly weird and random.  This recap shows it to be a seriously profound statement.  I doubt the SF shippers are ready to read this yet or are ready to read it and look at it objectively, but I hope they will because it might make them feel a little better.  It shoes how Neal’s death was a HUGELY symbolic thing for himself, Emma, Rumple, the Stiltskin family curse, etc.  It shows that it wasn’t just random.  I actually have a newfound respect for A and E as well as for MRJ after reading this now that I better understand the death.

    Just.  Wow.

As a mom to a 12 year old boy who has a second husband who stepped in to the “father” role in my son’s life since his bio dad is not in his life, I can’t wait for the upcoming CaptainCobra scenes.  And I can confirm from a real life perspective that those scenes will NOT be about CS but will be about a man stepping up to fill a role that is desparately needed in a young man’s life.  A man CANNOT fake interest in a child in order to score points with mom – it is obvious, trust me.  And I am just talking from a situation where a child has been abandoned by his bio father not one in which there has been a death and the man stepping in to fill the role of the father loved the missing dad as well.  Henry is going to be one very lucky kid in terms of what he is going to get from Hook.  Hook wanted to be a father to Bae and regretted that he was never able to do so/made a huge mistake with him.  How much more of an effort do you think he is going to put forth in fathering Henry for that reasom ALONE??  Than add in the fact that he will want to do it to honor Bae’s memory AND he will want to it because he loves Emma and Henry is a part of Emma, plus he doesn’t want to make the same mistake he made with Milah again – only loving the woman and not insisting on taking the entire package even if SHE didn’t want to.

That man is going to be the most dedicated father figure any one has ever seen – and he is going to make darn sure Henry knows all about Neal – with or without his memories. CS has NOTHING to do with this relationship which is what makes it so beautiful to me.!!

For me, yes the show is definately still about hope.  I think that all along A and E have been trying to show through the use of Fairy Tale characters that have been misunderstood and misrepresented, that there is really no such thing as a Fairy Tale existance even though we all think there is that one perfect elusive fairy tale life out there for us if we could just find a way to get to it.  Being someone myself who has definately NOT had a fairy tale life I have learned that just because my life isn’t a fairy tale and some really crappy things have happened doesn’t mean that some really GREAT things haven’t also happened.  And at almost 42 years old I can honestly say that the when I look back at my life some of the BEST experiences that allowed me to grow and become a better person and led to great happiness in my life were things that were literally disasters and horrible tragedies at the time they happened.  And if I hadn’t experienced those horrible things I wouldn’t be who I am today.  Sometimes it takes seeing what the bigger picture is to understand why something that seems horrible might actually help you in some way later on.  That’s why I trust what A and E are doing.  They know the “big picture” in their head – I don’t.  So something that might not make sense to me at the moment might make sense when everything had been wrapped up.
