So one thing I noticed when I re watched the CS scene for 42nd time – after Emma and Hook have had their moment to breathe in each other’s steamy air and stare into each other’s eyes and after Emma freaks out and walks away we get the scene where we see them coming over the hill up to the farmhouse together. Up to this point when Hook and Emma have had any kind of “intense” emotional conversations or talked about either of their feelings they have either been interrupted by other people or it was in Neverland where Emma was able to run away from Hook and go off to deal with something else or talk to someone else.
When they come over the hill, Hook is walking behind Emma. He knows Emma needs time to decompress emotionally after those “moments” and that she needs to call the shots on how they interact after those moments happen. There isn’t anyone else around for her to run to and she can’t run away from him into the jungle the way she could in Neverland. So he gives her the space he knows she still needs by walking behind her so she doesn’t have to face him. But this is the important part – Emma turns around very quickly and briefly to make sure he is still there. I think that is super important.
She wasn’t exactly nice to him when she just talked to him – in fact, she was actually really snotty. I think right before she turned and walked away from him she looked into his eyes and her super power told her that he was telling her the truth about being glad that her broken heart is a sign that it still works NOT that she was hurt at all. I think she saw in his eyes a man who would never wish for her to EVER be hurt and then she had time to realize that she probably hurt HIM by the way she spoke to him and the things she said and suddenly she realized that she probably needed to make sure he actually followed her. But like always as soon as she turned around she probably recognized she really didn’t have to check to see if he was there at all because by now I think she knows that Killian is always going to be there for her – after all, I think she is pretty much convinced that she can always count on him to come back and save her, no matter the circumstances. And I think when we find out what was going on during his secret year she will find out just how bad the circumstances were that he was willing to go through to get back to save her.
[adrotate group="5"]Maybe it’s just that it seems so crazy obvious to me in so many ways, especially now that we have the promo for the next episode, that I just can’t believe that they would handle a character death that way. I completely agree that Neal is really not important to the plot of the show so sadly, for many of us (I say that because I respect that there are many people who love his character), we won’t miss him at all. Which IS sad in a way because of how much I LOVED Bae. But the fact that a character who started out as so central to the whole plot of the show just kind of withered into nothingness to the point that his death has become such a not big deal that they aren’t even trying to hide it in the promo is just so strange to me. I keep feeling like there must be something else to this – that it can’tbe just that simple and obvious. But I guess maybe it is.
So I have a question for you all . . .
I have been convinced all along that Neal is the one who is going to die. But after the absence of the CS hug in 3×12 I am also beginning to believe that A and E are purposely playing us. I know they were NOT happy when the photos of the Pan/Malcolm stabbing were leaked because that gave away their big Pan is Rumple’s father shocker as well as Rumple sacrifices himself shocker. But we also had BTS pics of Regina giving Henry the book that were released as being from last night’s episode. Not to mention tweets that seem to have been purposely tweeted by actors to make it seem like they either are or are not on location filming. Then there’s the whole death in general – for people who don’t like to spoil, A and E certainly announced that death from the rooftops. And filming a funeral out in broad daylight and allowing someone BTS access with pictures??? That wouldn’t be a closed set day?? And now a promo that clearly makes it look obvious that Neal is dying next week. Am I the only one that thinks this seems . . . strange?? I’m not worried for Hook or anything, they have clearly set out to make him a maybe of the ensemble cast aside from just being Emma’s love interest so killing him off makes no sense. But something about the whole death thing next week is starting to feel a bit “off” to me .
Alright, also total foreshadowing with Daddy Charming dancing with Emma in the big ball gown. CS wedding anyone?? Now that we know Charming has this big emotional complex about not being there for Emma and screwing things up with the next one too, I can see where this is heading. No, Daddy Charming had zero opportunity to be a dad to Emma until recently – when he has been giving her advice about things that basically have to do with helping her end up with Hook. So it would be just PERFECT for BOTH Daddy Charming and Emma to have Baby Charming be born and then have Daddy Charming acknowledge that his “Daddy” time with Emma has kind of come and gone EXCEPT for the most important part of all. For Emma she needs her Daddy’s help in realizing the best guy for her is Hook and for Charming he needs to realize that he might not have been there for the things that Snow talked about like her first word and her first step but, even though he has a new baby now, he still has the milestone ahead of him that tends to be the BIGGEST one daddies dream about for their daughters – walking them down the aisle when they get married .
Okay, I did my re-watch of just the CS scene and I have to say that some people have completely misinterpreted the entire scene and it’s driving me crazy so I am only going to say this here in our thread.
First, this scene COMPLETELY addressed exactly what we were talking about yesterday before the show. Hook says to Emma “How is it whenever you’re around I find myself tracking through some woods or forest courting danger?” He doesn’t say “Oh yay, another dangerous adventure I’ve set out upon and I’m so happy because I get to drag you unwillingly along on it even though all you want to do is find a nice normal life to lead.” No. He is saying, I didn’t sign up for all this but because I love you and am never going to leave you it looks like, once again I am on another dangerous adventure in the woods because that’s who YOU are. Hook is NOT the one who is in need of one adventure after another, in fact he would prefer not to have to deal with them just like Emma. But the fact of the matter is that in their “world” adventures exists and they unlikely to stop – especially for the savior. But as Hook figured out on their first adventure together “they make quite the team.” Emma is the one who is constantly going from one adventure to another NOT Hook.
Then people are saying that Hook is being kind of a jerk about lying to her. Well he doesn’t actually lie to her at all here. EMMA is the one who tells HIM that for the past year he had been on the JR having one swash-buckling adventure after another until he “finally” decided to come get her. Go watch it. She is annoyed (jealous?) that he has not volunteered what he was doing all year. When he says “exactly” I take it as kind of when people say “whatever” sarcastically when they are annoyed at someone. And I do think he has a right to be a bit annoyed. I think he is trying to protect her from what is going on with Neal and I think he went through quite a bit to get to her (I am wondering if he even gave up the JR for her) all because he loves her so much. He has done NOTHING but show her how much he loves her by helping her and her family out and opening himself up emotionally to her yet she has reverted back to looking at him like a pirate. So yeah, he’s annoyed and a one word answer to HER made up scenario for his past year is probably his best option. Then she has the audacity to turn around and snap at him and tell him HE’S lying. But at the end of it all they BOTH agree to just accept that, yes, there is something he isn’t telling her. Emma can’t stand lying – there is no way she would just let that go and continue to work with Hook unless she TRUSTS him. She knows this man loves her and that he would NEVER do anything to hurt her that was WHOLE point of the next dialogue. When she was surprised that he is glad that she got her heart broken, she allows him to get in her personal space and is looking in his eyes using her superpower after he explains that if her heart can be broken than he knows it still works – she GETS that he loves her, she can trust him, and that he will NEVER hurt her. Why else would she accept that he is purposely keeping something from her yet immediately continue working with him????
So, no – Hook is not blasé or nonchalant about “lying” to Emma. Go back and look at his facial expressions and body language when she is TELLING him what he was doing for the past year. Then watch him after he tells her that if her heart can be broken he knows it still works. It is KILLING him to have to lie/keep things from her but at least now he has TOLD her that he is keeping something from her. I don’t believe Hook would EVER want to see Emma hurt – but a loveless marriage to monkey?? This is a tricky one. Like he said – he saved her. She might have gotten hurt but at the same time – they BOTH know her heart can actually love now, whereas before the year of fake memories Emma didn’t think she had the ability to love again. So I think Hook pointed out to her that having her heart broken in these particular circumstances was probably worth it.
It is the scene of poor Hook after Emma walks away that just breaks my CS shipper heart into a million pieces though. It’s line he was holding his breath his entire time he was talking to her and trying to strong for both of them and when she walked away he could finally fall apart (as much as Captain Hook can). She didn’t treat him very well and that had to hurt him like crazy, he thinks something going on with Neal is going to hurt her, her walls are back up again and he start over, she was going to marry someone who isn’t HIM, he can’t tell her what he was doing all year, and all he wants to do is grab her tell her he loves her and kiss her . . . but he can’t . . . and in the back of his mind TLK didn’t work.
As usual I have to do my re-watch today but. . .
Holy moly!! That was the CS scene to end all CS scenes for me!!! I literally stopped breathing!! I mean we have talked before about how Hook has never actually said “I love you” to Emma but how much more obvious is it to start prodding her to make you tell you if she was actually considering marrying the monkey?? And then telling her that he was GLAD he ended up letting her down she COULDN’T marry him even though he knows that means she ends up getting hurt??? He might as well hold up a huge sign that says “I love you Emma, you own my heart!!” Although Hook always challenges Emma when she needs to make a decision or do something that makes her uncomfortable, the one thing he NEVER wants to purposely do is hurt her – but this time, he makes it very clear that he doesn’t CARE if she got her heart hurt because this one is HIS. Prior to the year of Emma’s fake memories Hook said he was “in it for the long haul” because Emma was basically incapable of having a romantic relationship – she had to figure out how to even HAVE one all over again before she could even figure out who she wanted to be with. But NOW Hook knows that having a real relationship and having her heart broken means that she is ALREADY capable of having a relationship – he is already through that hurdle.
To me this has been the most intimate CS moment on the show so far, even more than the kiss. Because Emma let Hook get WAY in her personal space right after she angrily said that he was glad she got her heart broken and THAT’S when he drops the bomb that it really makes no difference if she got hurt because what it tells him is that her heart actually works – and for him, that’s what HE needs. And since Hook has always been able to read her like a book he knows that’s what they BOTH need.
But, can I just point out how much I LOVE Hook as an individual character. This poor guy is so incredibly strong when he needs to be – when Emma needs him to be but doesn’t even know it. And it always tends to be right after Emma has just emotionally shot him down and wounded him in some way, when he just HAS to be in pain because if the way she has treated him – yet THAT is when he is able to be at his strongest for them both so that Emma doesn’t turn and run away and so he won’t give up, that’s when he steps into her personal space, or comforts her, or challenges her – that’s being in it for the long haul. But yet you can always see that moment where he is in pain from what she has just said to him and when he has that moment of doubt. It’s at those moments that, even though I LOVE Emma – I hate her for what she is doing to Hook. And I wonder if what is going to happen in the final two episodes is that she is finally going to realize how much she has been pushing him away and hurting him when he has been doing NOTHING but trying to love her and “save” her from herself.
The other thing I found interesting was Emma has no patience for lying with her superpower and she called Hook out on the fact that he is lying to her about something and isn’t telling her about something that he was up to during the year she was gone. Yet he basically just says – you’re right, I’m not telling you what I was up to, I am keeping something from you and you’re just gonna have to trust me on this on one. And she just . . . lets it go!!!! No questions asks, no grumbling, doesn’t even really acknowledge it. That is trust – she wouldn’t do that with anyone else. She knows Hook wouldn’t be involved in something bad so she knows that if he isn’t telling her something he must have a good reason.
So we know that Emma trusts him even when she knows and he admits he is keeping something from her and we know that Hook knows that Emma is capable of being in love now. Things are progressing nicely for our pirate and princess.
I am still hoping for some kind of CaptainFire acknowledgement. I think that would also be a nice way to tidy everything up.
It would be interesting if over the past year Hook and Neal have been working together and have become close but Emma has managed to find closure to her relationship with Neal because of the stronger person she became being a mother to Henry. So if Neal dies it would actually be Hook who would be more emotionally distraught over his death than Emma because Hook will feel like he is losing a friend but will still have that fatherly feeling that he had toward him years ago. Whereas Emma has already “lost” Neal so many times and had to deal with his “death” that it wouldn’t impact HER as much but really more concern her with how Henry would be affected so he didn’t have to deal with it the last time. It would be consistant with how JMo has been saying that Neal will always be important because he is Henry’s birth father in interviews – the emphasis is suddenly on Emma’s focus on Neal’s relationship to Henry not on her confusion about the role he plays in her life.
By the way, did any of you look on Captain Eala’s Tumblr and see the thing about the wedding and how the spacing of all the characters in the goodbye scene between Emma and Hook at the end of 3A looks like a wedding – right down to the way Hook says his “Not a day will go by that I won’t think of you” and the way Emma looks at him and says “Good” looks like they are saying wedding vows??? I have no idea how to link to that but her Tumblr link is above – you seriously need to go look at it. It blew me away. After looking at that I think I am now totally convinced that CS are getting married. I know I want to see their relationship before that happens, but it is REALLY hard to argue against it when you see that knowing how A and E like to parallel things on the show in certain episodes.
The week has definately dragged! I think everyone is scared of spoilers since the hug-that-never-was. I know I keep looking for them but if I hear anything they don’t do as much for me anymore – I don’t feel like I can trust anything that comes out anymore. I feel like A and E want it that way – I guess I can’t blame them.
I also think things have also dragged because it seems like we have lost half our ship. Where did everyone go?? I miss everyone. It seems like there isn’t anyone writing novels about the tiniest little details of the previous episode. What happened??
I know the chat for the first episode back wasn’t the most pleasant but if anyone is lurking out there (huuulllooo???) I have been chatting quite a bit lately and it has been EXTREMELY friendly – seriously – I haven’t felt uncomfortable at all. Everyone has been very friendly to everyone in the chat and everyone has been very open to listening to everyone’s theories. No one has been hitting anyone over the head with theories that make Hook (or any other shipped character) out to be a bad guy. Stelio (um, Killian) has been doing a great job of getting everyone to be supportive of ALL the ships in the March Madness contest – and I think it has helped to make people more supportive of the show in general, not just individual ships – which has really helped the chat (Thanks Stelio Killian Kontos Jones!)
So if you are lurking come out and play – “Do you want to build a snow man?”
I’m kind of hoping it’s a brand new curse and that it needs to be broken in a completely different way. I think it is going to get old really fast and will be really boring if we are just sitting around trying to figure out who has to kiss who in order for the curse to be broken. I mean if TLK is the solution to every curse than everyone should just start kissing everyone else now on the off chance they are True Love but just don’t know it yet until they find the right combination.
