ParticipantWell they better do those flashbacks fast or they are going to end up with bizarro scenes like they had with poor Dylan where he looked YEARS older in scenes where he was supposed to be YOUNGER than in scenes we had previously seen him.
Especially with Robbie’s character – it would be a bit odd if he suddenly looked more mature and filled out yet was playing a guy who is supposed to have never grown up. Depending on the dialogue it could end up being an epic fail.
But that is one super talented kid for sure! Being able to have scenes with Robert Carlyle and simply OWN them is not an easy task.

ParticipantJust rowing over to say congrats (is that the correct sentiment??) on getting the Neal poster released. I know it was really bothering you all that they hadn’t released it, so I’m happy for you!

ParticipantAwwww . . . I thought the same thing too about the scream. He was worried it was his Princess and he was going to rescue her.

ParticipantOh wow!! 20 minutes away from his hometown!! Believing in even the possibility of a Colin sighting is a very powerful thing . . .

Participant@CaptainEala Are you from any where near COLIN???

ParticipantSo I was at Target this morning and they had these Disney Christmas tree ornaments. One of them was Captain Hook. But then I was like: No, no, no!! He had the red coat and hat, bad perm, and wax mustache – and I was like: that is NOT Captain Hook.
So then I looked around in the ornament section a bit more and they had this cute fabric swan ornament! And I thought: well, I guess I could get the Captain Hook ornament anyway and hang it next to the swan ornament so I would have CS on my tree.
So I went back and looked at the Captain Hook ornament again . . . and I just couldn’t do it!!! He just looked freakishly weird. Captain Hook will forever be a devilishly handsome Irishman in black leather with chest hair and a wandering eyebrow. I looked everywhere but Target didn’t have one of those. They didn’t have an ornament that looked like him either. Sigh.

Participant@emmajones Welcome aboard!! I was also going to comment on your perfect username! I spend way too much time on these boards, thankfully I have a very understanding husband. At least he understands that I like to over analyze the show and discuss with people – he does think it’s weird how I could possibly get so excited over the relationship of two fictional characters. It’s nice to have a place to come where there are others of my kind, ha!! I have a few friends who have started to get into the show because of my excitement about it but still find it bizarre that I listen to podcasts and read/write on message boards about theories, etc. Glad to have you here!!

ParticipantI’m not convinced that Hook was drunk. He was depressed as heck and didn’t know what to do with himself just like Emma was kind of stumbling around lost without Hook.
But I don’t think he is capable of going back to how he used to be. They had Neal make a point of saying that they don’t sell rum at Granny’s and in the diner scene we saw Hook drinking a beer. In the past whenever we have seen Hook with his flask he has always been drinking from it – it’s just something he has always done. But that stopped once Pan called him a one handed pirate with a drinking problem.
In the scene with Tink he isn’t stumbling around or off balance, and we only see him LOOK at the flask. We’ve talked about how his “come-on” to Tink really wasn’t much of a come on since you could tell he wasn’t into it AT ALL – he didn’t have his usual Captain Innuendo confident and cocky face, he just looked sad.
I think it was a habit for him to turn to rum and women to bury pain so that’s what he started to try to do but quickly realized that he couldn’t, he didn’t want to deal with things that way anymore – Emma has changed him too much. Kind of like he is thinking: okay I’ve got my rum and oh my, how convenient here’s a woman . . . but I don’t want either of these things anymore, I just want Emma.
I just don’t see Hook falling back into his old habits that hard and that quickly based upon a decision HE made when he still feels fairly certain that Emma will choose him and when he has said he is in it for the long haul. Now if Emma had just told him that she was choosing Neal, I’m sure he would take a brisk swim in a ocean of rum and proposition Granny if it could make him forget about Emma.

Participant@Jenna B As far as I can tell Snowing does know about jail. I mean I think they know Henry was born in jail but not that Emma and Neal lived a life of crime together and that Neal’s actions resulted in Emma ending up in jail. I don’t think Emma knows the whole story – heck, we don’t know the whole story and I’m guessing Neal doesn’t know the whole story!
I agree that Daddy Charming is a bigger Hook fan than Neal fan simply because they spent time together on NL, he really doesn’t know Neal at all. Which is actually something that bothers me. Hook made an actual effort to try to bond with Charming while Neal hasn’t shown the least amount of interest in getting to know Charming at ALL. Typically when a guy is seriously interested in a girl he will try to get in good with her dad – it just shows poor character to me for Neal to not show any interest in getting to know Charming, but maybe I am old fashioned (then again Neal is hundreds of years old so he should be old fashioned too).
And I agree with you that Charming probably feels badly that he seriously misjudged Hook because he is a pirate. I don’t think that is necessarily an issue for him anymore. I think they could have some fun with the Hook/Charming bromance on the show since they are the same age. It would be awkward for Emma’s dad and her boyfriend to be the same age and hanging out together at a bar. But I think they have a lot of the same traits and since they are establishing that Snow and Emma are a lot alike they could have some fun with the two of them commiserating over how difficult the two of them be over beers.

Participant@MysteryKat I’m glad you brought up the deal with people saying that Hook was distracting Emma in NL when she should have been 100% focused on Henry, and now Daddy Charming and Snow are telling her that in life you have to find the good moments in spite of the bad.
As a parent myself, that whole argument during the NL episodes was driving me crazy. I guess I didn’t realize that when I became a parent I ceased to exist as a regular human being. The fact of the matter is that being a parent is a huge responsibility on a daily basis but when there is some kind of crisis in your child’s life it can literally consume you and if you allow that to happen it will destroy you. Those times of crisis are EXACTLY when you have to SEARCH to FIND the good times and you recognize that the people in your life who can manage to distract you from your crisis for even 5 minutes and make you feel good are an enormous blessing!!
Not long before the NL episodes I had a friend whose 6 year old son died of a life long chronic disease. They knew this last time he went in the hospital that he wasn’t going to come home ever again but that didn’t stop them from taking time to get away from the hospital to do something together as a couple to keep their sanity or to keep taking their daughter to her dance classes and spend time chatting with the parents in the waiting room. They needed that distraction and that time away from the crisis to rest, regroup, and replenish so they had the strength to go back and deal with losing their son. But in spite of being parents who had a son who was dying they were still a married couple and they were still parents to a daughter and they needed to find the moments for those parts of their lives in the midst of the bad.
That is exactly the kind of thing that the show is talking about. When things are bad sometimes you have to search to find the good. In Emma’s case, she found her moments on NL because she FELT good when she was with Hook. When she was feeling discouraged he reminded her that he believed in her and that she is always successful when she sets her mind to something. And she was reminded that she is was loved by many people on the island (including Hook because of his secret and because he told her he was going to win her heart). Those were all POSITIVES on the island.
I am so glad someone pointed out that they are making a big deal about it on the show now after people tore Hook to shreds for it!!!
