Or does he recognize Rumple’s need to be a hero and that Rumple IS trying to save Henry? I think Charming knows that Rumple has always wanted to be the romantic hero, like Charming is. And Charming does tend to be “infuriatingly optimistic” as his daughter would say.

Yeah it’s the Charming stuff that’s confusing me.
On the one hand, it might be nice to see Charming break out of his very solid/one note role of “The Consummate White Knight”
