There is so much room for them, as the Disney version she’s with the prince but it is famous in the original story that the love is unrequited. Also, the story itself, it is rumored, was written in inspiration of Anderson’s unrequited love for another man. So if the writers are saying it has been their plan to have a gay character, what if it is Eric, and he doesn’t return Ariel’s affections not so much because she’s a mermaid, but not a merman.

    THAT’s interesting. A real twist.
And yes, A and E have said (somewhere) that their Ariel will be a mix of both Disney and the Original which is super dark, but of course have their own OUAT twist. That would be twisty.

I think THO has to exist in some real form. Based on what Greg told Regina, which Phee has already pointed too, THO has been active for quite some time and is highly proficient at their job. They may have started off being a part of NL and PP but then developed on their own seeing as how the CEO, head boss man, was a 17 yr old in a different realm.

Both Angel and Spike, the two main vampires, had their souls, though Angel had his thrust upon him as a curse and Spike went and won his back (because of his love for Buffy) and Jane was one of the key writers for Spike, so she could play with that.

I like the theory. Souls are mermaid food.

I was thinking Rumple transformed Ursula into a Squid. That was what Triton got out of the deal, rather than having to “banish” her.

Another idea, is what if Ursula IS Ariel’s mother. So maybe she was hurt by Pirates or Pan, and Rumple’s deal was give me the trident, and I’ll keep her alive…and hello, she’s alive but in classic rumple careful-what-deal-you-make style she’s a squid. Bonus, for Rumple of course, is that the ink she gives off is super-charged-pure-magic.

Rumple gives a “your welcome” to Triton, and zips off from NL, having escaped with more than what he needed (some bit of the “never-aging” magic for his curse, the ink and the trident). He’s feeling pretty pleased about the whole thing, despite knowing that Pan is pretty dont-mess-with-him powerful, never realizing Bae was there.

This doesn’t fit with the idea of Hook’s backstory as someone hunting the squid then getting caught up with pirates of course.

This is all kinds of intriguing.
And what if, in retaliation against Rumple, the merpeople and Ursula joined forced with PP thinking they could hurt Rumple somehow. But Ariel stays out of the conflict.

    Hmmm.

If Rumple went to NL and got both the trident and the ink from Ariel’s father, what on earth does Triton get in exchange? That’s a lot to fork over, especially his scepter which is incredibly powerful. And why would Rumple need the trident if he got everything he needed from NL in the first round? And if it can open portals, why wouldn’t he use it to come to our world? If it’s one directional, that’s great and answers my last question, but it seems rather egotistical of him to take both the ink and the trident when he never needs the latter again. (yes, I know. He collects things. His magpie like tendencies might be the explanation)

I think I agree that Rumple and Ariel probably never interacted. Regina is hotheaded enough that she wouldn’t “want” anything in the exchange with Ariel except an excuse to go gloat over Belle to Rumple, I’ll buy that.

Didn’t the sea witch steal the mermaid’s voice in a way similar to how Rumple stole Keith’s tongue? Perhaps Rumple took the squid/Ursula’s powers when he took the magic ink so that he could take voices too.

Yes. And in the movie while Ursula is singing Poor Unfortunate Souls and making up her potion/brew to steal Ariel’s voice, she actually holds up a tongue and throws it into the pot. It’s a call back to the original tale I do believe.

I’ve wondered before if merfolk could travel between worlds without a portal, and maybe one day Ariel was off exploring and got stuck in FTL. Now I’m wondering if maybe she’d used daddy’s trident to open herself a little portal to explore FTL, and before she could get back, Rumple got the trident, and that’s how she got stuck, and was in FTL to go see Regina?

Did Regina send her back to NL, then? Because we know Ariel is currently in NL with our JR6. And what did Regina get in return? The exchange and t-word issues are a little complicated.

1)Before Regina became the evil Queen, Rumple went to NL and got squid ink (and maybe the Dark Curse) from Ariel (we think). In exchange Ariel got….something. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Rumple gave Ariel her voice?

    2) Years later, Ariel messes around with the Trident, open a portal to FTL, and gets stuck with her Trident.

    3) Ariel encounters Regina and they strike a bargain. Ariel will give Regina the Trident if Regina sends her home (I find this problematic as Regina doesn’t appear to be able to travel without some sort of aid, like the hat.) BUT Regina goes to Rumple to get the means to send Ariel back and promises Rumple the trident. But of course Regina doesn’t do anything without expecting something in return. So what does Regina get from Rumple? (this is also problematic as the Trident is already in his castle when Regina comes to him at the end of Skin Deep but I’m just thinking out loud here)

Yeah, there’s still plenty of storyline left in THO. I was re-watching SSTTR last night, and during the scene where Greg was torturing Regina, she was mocking him for thinking that he and Tamara could achieve their goal, and he was all, “Who said there’s just two of us? We’re everywhere.” Then he told her how after he left SB as a kid, everyone thought he was crazy when he talked about magic, but then there were people who listened to him, people who believed in magic, and believed it didn’t belong in this world and were gonna get rid of it. And Regina was all, “You can’t eradicate the magic from this world, ” and Greg was all, “Damn straight we can, you think this is the first time we’ve done it?” THO has knowledge, power, history, plenty of other minions just like GOAT, and an interest in SB. They will most definitely be a factor in S3.

Agreed. This is what makes me think that the second half of S3 will be about THO in our world seeking retribution for whatever the JR6 end up doing in NL.

Is OUATIW going to be more than one season?

No idea. The way they talk about it sometimes it sounds like it is just going to be a mini series and they’ll move on to OUATin *new land*
But that’s really expensive to launch a new show every season.

This sounding more like Once Upon A Time in Wonderland AND Agrabah. Do we even know if any of the other characters from Aladdin are going to make an appearance for certain?

We do not. Just casting calls that sounds a bit like those Agrabah characters.

I can add as many as you want!

ASOTM is already on our list (check the first post of this thread, I update it all the time and have broken it down into helpful categories) and it stands for And Straight On Till Morning, episode 222.

PotC is Pirates of the Caribbean, the movie franchise based in part on the ride at Disney.
