KeymasterEpic magic showdown between PP and Rumple, it’s coming! And it will be awesome. đ
I think PP might be more dangerous in terms of raw power (I get the feeling PP is older) but also more powerful from a psychological standpoint. I think he has the ability to twist people’s words and thoughts and make them fearful.

KeymasterHmmmm. Nurse Neal back to life, that’s interesting. I just assumed they’d use lake Nostos to heal him and then the episodes with Neal would be all about trying to find his way back to SB.

KeymasterWhat if in exchange for the ink, the merfolkk want information from Rumple. Perhaps on PP or even Ariel. If Ariel has gone missing and Rumple is dealing with Triton or maybe one of Ariel’s sisters, it would slightly ironic if he helped them find their family member while his whole mission is to find his own (and of course Bae is sitting up in a tree somewhere watching all this realizing how good his papa has become at magic and at finding people).

KeymasterApparently you didnât watch or read the Harry Potter story because Harry had the use of his hands. As for talking under the sea/ocean all Rumble had to do was scare the Squid which would produce the ink and the could therefore collect it. Also, note Rumble doesnât need a wand to do magic with so I am sure he could figure out something to get the ink.
Excuse me? I’ve watched and read the HP series a great many times. I am ALLOWED to forget one small fraction of a detail every now and then when I’m trying to respond to everyone’s posts. Yes, Harry did have his hands, but your first suggestion was turning into a fish which was what I was responding to. They could do that here but they can’t outright copy the HP Gillyweed because copyright.
I still the mermaids are a bigger possibility since mermaids are already in NL and we know about Rumple’s penchant for making deals. This adds more to the mermaid mythology and storyline rather than some CGI-ed swimming Rumple with gills."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"RumplesGirl
KeymasterBringing the mermaids up in 304 with the ink is a good way to set up Ariel in 306, as a contrast. I expect that the mermaids Rumple will deal with to get the ink will be mean and cold hearted, but then Ariel appears 2 episodes later to show us that not all mermaids are like that.

KeymasterHe could give himself gills or what ever so he could breath underneath the water kind of like what they did with Harry Potter story.
Right, I’m agreeing with you that he could turn himself into a fish with gills and that takes care of the breathing problem. But no matter what kind of aquatic life you turn yourself into, you don’t have hands. Breathing isn’t the issue here. It’s the ability to grab, hold, and carry. And if you want to say “he used magic” well fish don’t have voice boxes either. Rumple wouldn’t be able to speak a magic command; and without hands he wouldn’t be able to wave and make thing happen either.
I’m not discounting the possibility, I’m saving it’s sort of hard to think it through."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"RumplesGirl
KeymasterHarvested from the rarest species of squid from the bottom of a bottomless ocean â impossible to find, unless youâre a mermaid. Or me. 2Ă08(Into the Deep)
So Rumble didnât need a mermaid to help him he could turn himself into a fish or something to get the ink. Which is how Regina can play Ursula after all squid ink is only used by a squid as a smoke screen which protects the squid from danger or trying to get away from someone.
It’s a possibility I agree, except that practically speaking, fish don’t have hands. Or opposable thumbs. They can’t carry anything. I think Rumple was trying to tell a bed time story and make himself sound pretty cool.

KeymasterOh I get it, I do. Belle is my favorite and when they announced that Rumple was going to be the Beast I was livid because I already had in my head they way Belle’s story was supposed to play out. It wasn’t until I Skin Deep aired that I realizes how much sense it made for them to combine Rumple and the Beast.
I should admit, like you did, that a lot of the “Eric doesn’t have to be her canon+endgame” is due in large part to my Hookriel tendencies. đ
As for Ariel appearing in more than a few episodes, I think itâll all depend on whether Eric lives in NL or not. Perhaps Ariel has been stranded from in NL during the curse whereas Eric is from the EF but is now stuck in SB. If he is, then perhaps Ariel will travel back with the JR6 in 3Ă11 and help the group in whatever challenges they face in the second half of S3. Ariel might have inside knowledge on the HO having spent so long spying on the human world of NL.
Good point. As of right now we know very little about Ariel or Eric or even the mermaids. We know they are casting Eric but so far there hasn’t been a casting call that we know of so we’re all just running on our speculation headcanons.

KeymasterIf this weren’t Once Upon a Time and someone tried to put Ariel with any other person, I’d have a fit, because I do get the Disney purist POV, I do. I was born in 1987 and grew in the so-called Disney Renaissance. TLM was the first movie I ever saw in theaters and everything had to be Ariel until I was 5 and saw BatB. But OUAT isn’t “let’s remake Disney movies into live action.” And so while I’m a Disney fan as much as the next girl, OUAT is known for challenging those Disney stories. Plus, if we’re adding RH to Regina’s love life and then introducing Ariel and Eric as canon+endgame and wanting them to be on show at least regularly, because once Ariel is here I can’t see them putting her aside after only a few episodes, that’s a whole lot of new characters who now need developed and thought out and given something to do. Having Eric be a past figure who married someone else is staying true to TLM and giving Ariel the chance to integrate into the show and have her be a legit part and not a “hey! we gave you Ariel for one brief moment. How about that?”

KeymasterIâd prefer for Ariel to remain as close to the Disney version of âThe Little Mermaidâ as possible. While Iâm excited to see some âdark mermaidsâ I want Ariel to stand in stark contrast to them and for her to get her happily ever after. Itâd be too tragic if she ended up dead or didnât get to be with the love of her life, Eric. While Once isnât afraid of pushing the boundaries, I doubt they would deny one of Disneyâs most popular princess her happily ever after, especially on a show based on hope.
Her happily ever after doesn’t have to be with Eric though. If we want Ariel to be more than just a one off or more than 3 or 4 episodes, they need to integrate her in with the rest of the cast. Most of the princesses do have their happily ever afters; Philip is back somehow, Ella and Thomas are together raising their child, Snow and Charming have each other, and…well we’re working on Belle and her beast. This could be a time to explore the idea that sometimes the princess doesn’t get the Disney fairy tale treatment. I really like a theory from @runaroundmacy who wants Eric to be in the past, either dead or having married someone else, like he does in the original. I don’t think Ariel will be a dark mermaid, I think she will be a total contrast to the soul suckers/flesh eaters/men drowners/whatevers the other merpeople are.
