Anyway, Gypsy brought up a really good point in another thread. Here’s her take:

I like the idea of London being a fictional/non magic London.
    I don’t think it’s Victor’s “Land Without Color”, though.
Victor’s LWC has to have some kind of magic, or Jefferson’s had would not have been able to go there.
That world was depicted in black&white. London wasn’t.
Also, when Rumple went to LWC, he still had ‘color’, so, it’s safe to say that Bae would’ve still had ‘color’ and he would have stuck out like a sore thumb in that world

However, if magic is being depleted from the world at a slow rate, that might account for why Jefferson’s hat can still go there but magic is so low as to render it B&W.

Yes, I was being courteous and he has a right to promote his own blog, though the spoilers bars are maybe a bit much here but again it was done out of politeness.

I don’t think there is a way to turn off the spoiler bars for each individual, but it is only one click.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

This actually sounds like a conversation Hook would have.

Yes this is a stumbling block because the magic in a LWC is feeble and neglected, to quote Rumple.

Over at this thread we’re been working with the idea that the London we saw in Second Star to the Right is actually the Land Without Color from Frankenstein’s story and that after the Home Office was developed (probably by Wendy) it set out to eradicate magic, leading to its non-color status by the time we get to the Frankenstein myth.

Great theory! I should have read that thread before starting this one.

Oh totally fine. I was just suggesting something else to read. A lot of us are bothered by that line from The Queen is Dead because it seems contradictory to what we saw in Second Star to the Right. But I really like the idea of Fictional Europe. It opens up a lot of doors for other stories someday.

Good points. Just because our world is a land without magic doesn’t mean it’s the only land without magic. It’s pretty interesting. We call it a land without color but it could be a Fictional Europe where you have the Darlings, Oliver Twist, Sherlock Holmes, ect in England, Frankenstein in Germany and maybe the Hunchback of Notre Dame in Paris.

I hope you’re right Phee. I had enough issues with Selfless, Brave and True that if the photo has no connection to the overall plot or if Tamara doesn’t have one semi-legit reason for hating magic as much as she does, I’m going to be disappointed.

    I went hunting for images.

Gerhardt’s watch from In the Name of the Brother

Greg’s Watch from the Same episode

Ok, obviously not the same watch but they do look a lot alike, yes?. BUT I do think you’re on to something here. The watch could be significant, especially as the Crocodile in PP swallowed a watch and always made a tic toc sound which is Hook knew it was coming. Rumple as the Crocodile did say Tic Toc but maybe there is something else to do with a watch and NL that we haven’t seen yet.

Ok I thought about it some more. I was having issues with the timeline because strictly speaking (I’ll put this in spoilers so that people can read your theory),Frankenstein was published first in 1818 and Peter Pan was around 1900 and thus Frankenstien would have to be older than the London of Peter Pan. But then I started thinking about the Onceiverse and here’s where I landed.
Rumple uses Frankie to manipulate Regina about 10 years before the Curse. That places the events we know as the Frankenstein story also about 10 years before the Curse.
Baelfire falls through the bean hole about 250 years before the Curse and lands in what looks like 1900 London. If we say that Bae didn’t fall through time, as Rumple and so many of us think, but rather landed in the Land Without Color 250 years before the Curse that would make some issues we’ve been having with the timeline make more sense.
Many people are under the impression that as we move forward in time we become more advanced but certain sci-fi stories show that to not be true. For example, H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine is a great example of the Dying Earth and culture genre as time moves on. I’m also thinking of the The Giver though it has been many years since I read that particular tale. Maybe the Land Without Color becomes decolorized because magic is being eradicated by the Home Office which was set up by Wendy after the events of Second Star to the Right. That means that in the 250 years since Bae visited London, the H.O. has been successful enough to wipe out enough magic that the world looks the way it does in In The Name of the Brother and The Doctor. I think this is a really interesting theory.

That is a really interesting twist. I’m seriously going to be thinking that.
