KeymasterHe’s not level headed when his emotions get the best of him, I agree. Right before he killed Milah she had just told him that she never loved him. He shook Belle because he suddenly realized he had done the one thing he swore never to do again (he tells Blue that he will do nothing else, love no one else in “The Return”). He released the Wraith against Regina because his love for Belle clouded his rational thinking. When Rumple loses control it is normally because he has been surprised by some unexpected emotion. Something he didn’t see coming.
Rumple has made a lot of wrong decisions, I don’t deny that. I just don’t know if giving Snow that candle was one of them. It was absolutely predicated on self motives. He didn’t want to die and here was someone who was already determined to kill Cora, so he might as well help her out. He just manipulated the situation enough so that she wouldn’t kill him too. It’s going to be a LOOOOOOONG road. Like full series long road. I doubt Rumple will ever be like Snow or even just “good” (whatever that word even means everyone could define it differently Look at what Regina said to Snow in The Queen is Dead: it was you who added Evil to my Name. Who’s to say Rumple couldn’t already be considered “good” Everything he’s done he did for his son. What wouldn’t a parent do when if their child was lost? Just throwing that out there). I think he’ll always straddle that line, and frankly, that’s how I want him. That’s why he’s my favorite. He’s so complex and well drawn that if he were to go completely good, it wouldn’t be believable. And if he went completely bad, it would be cliche and not very OUaT of the writers.[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"RumplesGirl
KeymasterI think Rumple is trying to keep Henry at arm’s length for both their sakes. He’s trying to push Henry away and not care for him. However, ultimately Rumple loves his little family- Belle, Bae and now Henry are part of that family, and he would do anything to protect them.
I completely agree. The second he realized Henry was his grandson, the only child of his long lost son, it was like “well he’s untouchable now…” But that doesn’t mean he wants to become best friends with Henry, like David has been bonding with Henry. The child still might be his undoing so love him, but from a safe well protected (both psychically and emotionally) distance.
I think Hook may pull a Lion King. With Hook taking on the role of Scar and Henry being Simba. Rumple would sort of be Mufasa. Hook would put Henry in a position where Rumple would have to save him with the hope that Rumple will be killed in the process.
I would love some tongue in cheek reference to the Lion King. And this would be an interesting scenario. But do they really want to make Hook the guy who would do that to a child? I think they really want to redeem Hook (and I think they are going to have to because right now his character is driven by one thing and one thing only and it could get old real fast).

KeymasterRegina is a bit of a hot head. She rushes into things without seeing the whole board. I’m not saying that’s her fault because I don’t think she can even see the board sometimes. But sees the entire field of play. He gives Regina a curse and she thinks its the answers to all her problems without stopping to think about 1) why he would give this to her and 2) what are the consequences to it.
It’s like they said in the official podcast for Miller’s Daughter. Regina storms into the Charmings wedding to announce that she’s going to destroy their happy ending, but she doesn’t even have the plan or the curse as of yet. Just like Cora when she told the King she could spin straw into gold and then tries to rush out of the room so she won’t have to prove it. Stun them and leave them and don’t worry about the consequences of what you’ve said.
Rumple is so calculating that he would never announce his plans until he was sure of everything. The one time I think this doesn’t apply is when he lost Bae and he told BF that he would do nothing else in his life but find a way to locate Bae.
If Regina wants true revenge on Snow she needs to play the long game, not go for the easy solution. She can’t send her loyal huntsman to kill Snow, for example. Rumple is an expert at the Long Con."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"RumplesGirl
KeymasterI think it makes for interesting story telling and when you have characters are literally larger than life and not of this world it’s almost to be expected. If they were normal humans, this show would be…well, it would be called Revenge and take place in the Hamptons.
Revenge for revenge, in the real world, is idiotic, I agree. However, with SB and FTL, ect we aren’t in the real world. We exist there in a magically constructed world where revenge is woven into the landscape because that’s often how myths/fairy tales function. A individual or that individual’s family is dishonored or wrongs, you take revenge. It’s cyclical.

so basically we pulled the same numbers even with the DST shot, lets see if with DVR we beat out Amazing Race
Actually, we pulled slightly higher numbers than last week even with the DST shot.
And, last week taking the live +7 into account, we ended up at 10 million viewers and a 3.0 ratings share. So, I can see it being higher this week, if only slightly. Maybe a 10.5 million viewers and probably staying at a 3.0 ratings share, meaning we won the hour against the Amazing Race in overall.

KeymasterI hope Colin live tweets the season finale. Who better than Cap'n Hook to live tweet about Neverland!

Wonder if the jump was influenced at all by all the live tweeting. I swear, every cast member and their dog was live tweeting during the west coast screening, and I figured it was probably a ploy to try and get some more people watching live.
I have no doubt about it. The campaigned this episode HARD. I think they wanted to see if they could spike the interest in the live viewing again. The numbers did go up, though not as much as ABC probably wanted. But up is up!

KeymasterKeb has a good point. Your Dark One Father killing your mother is pretty terrible; but your Good Man, lovable, humble Father lying to you to hide his shame over his cowardice is pretty bad too.
I wanna go back to something Keb said above about Henry-Hook. Would Hook sink that low? Hook, when talking to Emma, about the Lost Boys didn’t sound like the cold pirate we know from the films/books. He sounded like he had affection for them. I think even Hook would draw a line at hurting an innocent child just to get back at Rumple.

I took the “I did nothing” line not as trying to displace the blame, but simply out of shock that Snow White actually did it. Yes, he pushed her buttons…but really- he didn’t have to push very hard. He knew she already wanted to kill her, and he was just giving her that opportunity in an effort to save his own life. When he realizes his wounds are gone, he is surprised…I think he truly believed he was done for at this point.
I wonder if knowing that Snow chose to save his life when she didn’t have to will soften Rumple.
This is why I’m not overly angry at Rumple or dismayed at what he did. Snow was determined to do it, she wanted to kill Cora. Rumple simply gave her the means to do so. But, it is Rumple, so it also benefited him. He did use Henry to manipulate her, but I don’t think Snow had to make any great leaps to get to the point where she was willing to kill Cora. It was already there. So, I agree with Phee. The “I did nothing” was Rumple choosing his words carefully in response to Regina. He didn’t cast any spells, he didn’t do any magic. In this case, he simply gave Snow the “gun” because she already wanted it.
I do think Rumple and the Charmings are going to have a different relationship here on out. He is Henry’s grandfather and even though they may never like each other or forget the past, he’s family.
