Along the same lines I’m just over the moon that the writers put an end to the theory of Regina being Rumple’s daughter. It’s like they specifically wanted to point it out to the audience that Regina was in fact not Rumple’s child. Thank god for that.

Amen. We never have to talk about this again. We can just walk way from that theory.

As to your thoughts on Cora loving Rumple, I said a lot over in the “True Love” thread of Miller’s Daughter, but I think the fact that she walked away from him and ripped her out means that she never loved him. It was lust for his power, but she felt that the power of being Queen was far more important and alluring.

I completely agree with the first sentence. Cora’s thirst for power and high social standing were way more important to her than love. However, I see her ripping out her heart as saying that she did feel something deeper for Rumple because she wouldn’t have been able to enjoy her new life if she was always thinking about what could have been with Rumplestiltskin, but mileage varies on that part. The most important part is that she chose being without Rumple (and the benefits that it would reap over being with him), and that alone disqualifies her as his true love.

I guess we disagree. 🙂 Cause to me, ripping out her heart is saying that she didn’t love him enough or at all because in the end he didn’t mean anything to her. And the way I saw it playing out, she was using him all along to get out of the contract, or at least get it to change.

Well, I feel gutted after that episode.

I have almost never felt bad for Regina. But that line did me in. That was…heart wrenching. Brava to Barbara Hershey.

Belle was willing to sacrifice her chance at freedom for the hope of helping Rumple. Cora wasn’t willing to sacrifice marrying a guy she didn’t love and the power that came with it even to be with Rumple. I think that’s the key difference.

Forever re-quoting this!!! Cora wanted power. POWER. Not love.

I agree. But, I believe that Cora did have real feelings for Rumplestiltskin beyond being drawn to his power. He’d already taught her how to use magic and she was set to marry the prince. The fact that she felt that she needed to rip out her own heart says to me that part of her really wanted to be with Rumplestiltskin. The fact that she chose her life with the prince over being with Rumplestiltskin does say that whatever feelings she did have, weren’t true love.

To me, the fact that she ripped out her own heart means that she didn’t really love him because she was willing to give him up. Belle was coming back to Rumple. She was going to fight for their love. In the end, whatever Cora felt for Rumple was totally eclipsed by her love of power. I think she was in lust with his power, what he could give her, darkness and the ability to make them all bend.

–Forgive the die hard Rumbeller but, that phone call broke my heart even though I’d seen it already. In context, it made it so much more powerful. The most selfless moment of his life. That’s true love. That right there. Not that weirdness with Cora, but that phone call with Belle was true love.
–Emma using magic. That was SIMPLY AMAZING
–Bae and Rumple. My heart just broke.
–Snow and Regina in the vault. WOW. Snow was sneaky and it was unexpected.

–The Cora and Rumple nonsense that we’re all going to be debating about. Did she really love him? Was she playing him? I think she was playing him to get him to change the deal.

But your point “as much as someone like Cora could love” does that mean that its not really love if it’s only the way Cora can love. She may have thought she was in love with Rumple, but I think it was his power she was in love with.

PS: I LOVE that it’s Rumple who is telling her to give up the revenge thing and that this only leads to more bloodshed. He’s going to change. I can feel it. He’s going to become the better man Belle wants him to be.
