I still think that’s an iffy message to be sending. As has been pointed out, Hook is basically an amputee. It’s seems a bit off for his happy ending to occur because he’s got all his limbs back intact even though he could be happy without the hand. It’s almost like saying that Regina can only be truly happy when she has the ability to have kids of her own.

Oh it’s a horrible message. But when has that ever stopped OUAT?

do you think we’ll see Belle as more Lacey like by the end of it? Kind of like the characters are split into their dark and light sides

No. As usual most of Belle’s story will actually be Rumple’s while she does little to nothing

Yeah for me, if they really want to make him all good and take out his sense of mystery as far as what he’s going to do and if you can trust him, his final step in his transformation should be removing his Hook for a hand.

I could see them doing it as a series finale type thing.

Guess we won’t be seeing Mulan back on OUAT for a good while, which I wasn’t expecting either way.

Same. Glad she got another gig, though.

    Enough.

The level of petty fighting in this thread is alarming. Enough. Move on. This spoiler–which basically says nothing– isn’t worth this level of bickering and ridiculousness. This forum believes in polite and considerate conversation, even when there is disagreement.

So…do people believe Hook will get his hand back? Would you want him to? What, if anything, do you think his hook symbolizes?

    1) No I don’t think he will. At the end of the day, he’s Captain Hook of Peter Pan and however far the writers want to push that redemption, they need to keep him tied to his original mythos.

    2) No I don’t want him to. First, I think there’s something disquieting saying that not being fully abled is somehow the same as being not whole or less than a “real man.” In the Apprentice episode Hook makes a comment that if his date with Emma goes well and she wants held, he needs to be able to do it with both hands. There’s just something….insulting to handicaped people with that line and train of thought.

Second, and I can’t emphasize this enough, Hook really likes his hook. Whenever he puts it on, on screen, he’s gleeful about it. He enjoys his hook. Let him enjoy it (without murder obviously)

    3) To me, it represents something that many characters have touched on: once a pirate, always a pirate. It’s his link to his past, to his true nature, and to who he really is.

    Good Lord.

Their answer is literally “Please keep watching our show because it’s too early to give anything definitive and we wouldn’t say yes or no either way because we want your eyeballs”

It is way too early to read into anything at this point. Except this for what it is: a fluff answer that means nothing until we start getting real spoilers.

This is what it sounds like to me:

“We honestly don’t know because we haven’t planned out the entire season yet. So here’s a lot of misdirection to keep your eyeballs glued to the magic box!”

    1) What do you think of Prince Charming’s character development over these last couple of seasons?

There hasn’t been any. Unless you want to count devolution as part of development.

Charming has never had much pizzazz on the show anyway; it was always focused on the females of Snow, Emma, and Regina with the male heavy lifting falling to Rumple. Charming is pretty stuck in his trope of White Knight. He does what knights are supposed to do–he fights for truth, justice, love, family, and “good.” The problem is that this rote, by the book take doesn’t lend much in the way of interesting character. David Nolan, as annoying as he could be in S1, was far more interesting because he was given complexity and actual human drama to work with. After the curse was broken, struggling to be a father for the first time worked as well because it was a challenge and didn’t come as easy. The problem lies in after the first two seasons when the villains of the show began to get the lion’s share of the story and sympathy and thus the heroes needed to be dirtied. The writers did it in a way that did not make the heroes more human but rather just make them look terrible and terribly incompetent.

    2) What, in your opinion, were some highlights for the character?

Season 1 and 2. I dunno….Charming has about as much personality as dry wallpaper. But I did enjoy his little side adventure with Arthur in 5A. The line “I don’t want to only be remembered as the man who kissed a sleeping princess awake thirty years ago.” is probably Charming at his most self aware and, frankly, interesting but it went no where. That idea of introspection and finding oneself lacking in their cosmic trope just vanished the next episode.

    3) Do you think Charming has any interesting stories left in him?

No. But he’s never really had all that many to begin with. His stories are always the same: he struggles to be a true knight, needs a bit of a pick me up in the form of womanly encouragement (Snow, Ruth, Emma, Anna) and then he goes and does the Knightly thing and proves himself a Knight.

    4)  Do you wish Charming had gotten more character development, or are you happy for him to play second fiddle to the strong female characters?

I don’t mind him playing second fiddle because I’m all for female-centered drama but I do mind that his second fiddle-ness is so boring and by the numbers.
