KeymasterLike, I know in my head it’s total SQ bait but …. it was very good bait.
It is, but I’ll gladly take this kind of bait (that feels real, and emotional, and worthy of a pairing with five years worth of progress) over any half hearted attempts at an ILY and a face-suck (no, seriously. Emma could barely get the words out to Hook during that final scene. More side-eye)

KeymasterShouldn’t Snow (and Emma!) have known this was a baaaad baaad idea considering what happened with Emma & Lily?
That’s a really great point (and one I totally forgot about while watching and even re-watching). Yes, the Baby!Lily!Egg debacle should have clued Snow in that you can’t split off darkness and kill it–it has to go somewhere.

KeymasterI still have hope it is Belle.
Losing her through the portal seems to have kicked his butt back into “wife” gear. My hope right now is that no serum from Hyde will work. It can’t be “science’d” away, it must be magicked away and only through a true sacrifice, like giving up his Dark One Power (whether or not I think that’s enough is another matter but since this show likes its grand gestures…) after Spinner!Father! Rumple confronts Dark One Rumple.

KeymasterIsn’t there something that can be said about reaching for what matters most even if it’s not logical?
Sure: Some people would, some people wouldn’t. We don’t all have the same orientation, to use a loaded word. Plus, Rumpel has had 300 or so years of experience with magic, so he’s like an old martial arts master with conditioned responses that overrule instinct and conscious thought.
Maybe but think about what SFG said: saving Belle is actually more logical because how can you wake her up when she’s vanished:
Because what is the good of having the crystal, without Belle??
The fact that we’re all having such a hard time reading the scene might be deliberate. All season the writers have been testing the waters on which means more to Rumple: Belle or the power/dagger/magic.

KeymasterIsn’t there something that can be said about reaching for what matters most even if it’s not logical? Like when the gauntlet led Rumple to the dagger as the thing he cares about most instead of, say, Belle herself or even Neal’s grave.
So…Rumple naturally thinks that someone would be after the crystal, but the *human* reaction would be to protect the person first, right? Especially the wife and the unborn baby? Even if reaching for Belle doesn’t make sense (why would anyone be after her–even though they were in the end) it’s the human response. But in that moment where he’s trying to decide where the portal is going to open up…he doesn’t reach for his wife (even if it seems less likely), he reaches for the crystal.

Okay, the woman’s head we’re looking at (big curly hair, sparkly cap)…she turns around in the very next moment and we see her head on. She’s wearing what I could call “cliche Gypsy” gear (like when movie writers need to signal Gypsy-ness to their audience). Esmeralda from Hunchback? The color of her outfit is wrong….but maybe?

KeymasterSpeaking of the Library: where did the Grail’s twin come from? How did it get into the Library in NYC?
LOL. You already know the answer to that…
I kowwwwwwwww. Pointless questions!
(but with the book set up and the quest set up…I dunno. I had #hope that there was a answer)

KeymasterOkay I just rewatched the scene a few times.
Rumple speaks to Belle-box about her dreams and then the room starts to shake. Rumple actually acknowledges what is happening: “a portal” he says.
He then looks at the Belle-box, the crystal and back again at least twice if not three times. In other words, he had enough time to pick up the box and get to the crystal before the actual portal opens on the bed. He then lunges for the crystal and then looks back over to the bed where the portal opens.
I think he made a deliberate decision in that moment (however he will rationalize it, he went for the crystal first after thinking about it)

KeymasterI dunno. Watching it again, it does seem like he’s hesitating, like he’s not sure which one he should reach for. It remind me of Family Business when Belle chose the memory rock over Anna for a split second, putting her needs over another person.
