KeymasterSome Greek mythology is also extremely insane and unrealistic though. So certain stories, although more interesting, might have to be changed in order to fit better in the OUAT world.
Absolutely. Never denied the crazy-town that is Greek myth. Anyone listening to the podcast live knows that it’s hard for Jeremy and I not to laugh when I’m trying to explain a thing. I never expected them to have Cronus eating his kids, for instance. But eating is also a metaphor and as writers I expect them to play with that idea.
But they way they changed it here, in this case, isn’t exactly…..fresh. It’s just the same ol’ same old.
ALL THIS ASIDE: any flipping flashback would have been better.

KeymasterScrewball Ninja came up with an interesting interpretation. Basically “OUAT is pushing redemption over justice. The villains take precedence over the victims, for better or worse.”
That’s it. That’s it right there.
I making my notes for the spoiler podcast tonight and here’s proof of what Screwball is saying from the most recent Hot Seat
Was it originally planned for Regina to face more of her victims in the Underworld?
KITSIS: No. For us, we liked the idea that she had to get closure with her family. We loved having the victims that were there go up. A bunch of villagers we’ve never met before we didn’t think was as interesting as putting her in an arc with her sister, mom, and dad

KeymasterReads a little more like a rip-off of Loki and Thor in the Thor movie, to me. At least the setup. SFG
I also thought the same thing.

KeymasterI know Greek mythology is close to your heart RG, but this is what OUAT does.
Sure but it’s the same rehash as other stories: shock! Daddy issues! Sibling issues! They’re not doing something brand new here, they’re just pulling from a few other villains and changing the names. It’s not “unique and interesting.” And I’m not saying changes in mythos are bad–it’s certainly worked for them in the past. But this isn’t anything remotely new.
(and I did say that I would have preferred the above version to not having a flashback at all….so it’s like I’m being intransigent about mythology)
And not for nothing, but the Greek story is actually loads more exciting than what is written on that page. When compared to this show it actually IS something interesting. Sometimes, you don’t have to tell me a new story; you just have to tell me the old one well.

KeymasterI know I be the minority with this, but I’m VERY excited to see this arc coming back. when they decided to drop it before the Pan stuff I was disappointed. I was very curious about The Dragon character and wanted more science vs. Magic. I’m hoping this will lead to them exploring more of the scifi/horror literature they have to work with including Dracula who I rememberwas planned to originally be in the series. Too bad David Anders is busy on I, Zombie. this is an arc that his Frankenstein character would fit into nicely.
I’m intrigued to see what they do with it. It was rushed through so fast before that it never felt fully baked. With more time, it might be much more palatable to the rest of the audience.
And if they really want they can get Anders back for an episode or two. iZombie is next door to OUAT

KeymasterIs this for real?
It is not. That’s a fake account. The real Adam has a “official” check mark next to his name. Also, check out the Twitter handle. It has a two “i” in Horowitz, whereas the real Adam only has one.

KeymasterSooo…..daddy issues. And so much #badmythology
While that is the case, I still would have taken a flashback of this, just to give Hades his much needed background information.
