I’m betting Emma will get a costume change this episode. I don’t think she’ll “die” as the Dark Swan.

Yes, Hades isn’t evil, necessarily. I mean he’s a god of the underworld but SOMEONE has to do it! And as far as Persephone goes…um….let’s talk about Zeus and the stuff HE did. But Christian influence is what it is and the idea of a god of death being evil became the norm. With Satan there is typically a “fall” from Grace; Lucifer tried to upset the balance of heaven and paid by being expelled. And even that only comes about after a lot of rereadings of the old texts and a lot of cultural interaction. Ha’Satan just meant “The Adversary” and was part of God’s council, mainly designed to argue other cases and points. The idea of him being the Morningstar and falling from heaven and all that jazz…later developments. (thank you Zoroastrianism)

Hades simply got a job that someone had to have. Also, I said this in another thread but the Underworld isn’t really brimstone and fire filled like we imagine Hell (our images of Hell are so terrible in order to make heaven and Christ that much more palatable). I mean this is how Homer described Elysium

to the Elysian plain…where life is easiest for men. No snow is there, nor heavy storm, nor ever rain, but ever does Ocean send up blasts of the shrill-blowing West Wind that they may give cooling to men

Tartarus is a bit more Hellish, something Christians picked up and ran with. Judgment and punishment that fits the crime (Tantalus, Sisyphus)

Hades itself is divided into fields–the Field of Punishment (and Hades often set punishment for those individuals) and the Field of Aspohdel (people who did not commit crimes but who lived an ordinary life).

There is even an Isle of the Blessed where people can be reborn (hint: how S5B end)

It’s worth noting that Hades is often hated by other gods but it’s largely because he represents death, something that is anathema to the gods. For immortals, death is such a strange concept that they bear no love for the god of it. But Hades is not a devil. Humans, of course, do not love him the same way no one in the modern age loves death.

–“Just wait until we’ve seen each other naked”

    –HAHAHAHA Mckayla caught by Annalise

–Pay Oliver! Pay that cinnamon roll.

    –COLIVER FEELINGS!!! OVERLOAD.

–Oh no! Stop the client from talking!

–“I’m going to go get the orgy drugs.”

Wait. The two years from “28 years of Curse” to “504” doesn’t…make sense?

The end of the curse was in May. S3A kicks off the missing year, which was began in some fall/wintery month and picks up in a fall/wintery month. So from 1×22-3×11 was less than a year? And then a whole year in NYC/EF depending on who are. And then S3B (Wicked), S4A (Frozen), 6 week jump to S4B (QoD) and then Camelot complete with another 6 year jump was…less than a year?

1×22 = May 2012 (in show time as well as our universe)

    2×01-3×11= May 2012- Nov(approx) 2012

    MISSING YEAR  = Nov 2012 – Nov 2013 (approx)

    3×12-4×11 = Nov 2013 – Dec 2013

    6 WEEK JUMP = Dec – January 2014

4×12 – 4×22 = January 2014 – ???? (seriously, 4B wasn’t a long arc in universe but no one is really wearing winter clothing so it must be a few months? Like late winter/early spring)

    Current: April(ish) 2014?

    Is that right?

Even if my months are a bit off, that would be two years which is where I was suddenly stumbling looking at Andrew’s pic again. Okay. I guess it has only been two years in universe.

@Nevermore and @RumplesGirl what gets me this is the same person who told Neal that the swan keychain survived realms because it was born out of true love. Yet she is shocked that Emma keeps a dreamcatcher that came from Neal. -_- Lord heaven come Sunday

I was behind but I just got caught up on the past two weeks. And here’s the thing: Gotham has reverted back to its S1 unstructured and unfocused mess. Killing off Joker and ending the Maniax arc did not serve the show. I’ll stick around for a bit but the show is going to have to work to keep me. It started off very strong this season by really focusing on one set story, the rise of certain villains and managing to work its long standing mythology in with its own unique twists. But now it’s back to its case of the week, too much mythology too fast, too little focus, no heart, cliche and hammy performances.

Passing thoughts, as the come to me.

–Barbara was interesting but now she just kisses Tigress because the show wants to be forward thinking and innovative but women kissing just for shock value and without any sort of narrative behind it, or developing it outside of sexual decoration…ooof. It rubs me the wrong way.

–I don’t find Theo compelling. Or at least not as compelling as Jerome was, Penguin (usually) is and Nygma can be. BUT…if we’re doing the St. Dumas storyline (complete with Azarel) I might change my tune. I do love me some religious mischievousness and anti Savior figures.

–Captain Barnes is annoying as HECK. I get it; he’s supposed to be an older version of Gordon with his heroic streak and his focus and determination to Justice and the Law (capital letters because Gordon and Barnes think in terms of sweeping cosmic themes where Justice and the Law are actual universal entities). But goooood lord. Talk about a hammy performance. The actor just chews through the scenery (while he’s throwing the actual scenery around)

–Am I going mad or did Alfred punch Selina Kyle?

–I will endure Kristen Kringle and Nygma dating IF Evil! Nygma comes out to play and turns Kristen into Harley.

–Bruce Wayne has a new love interest. Because that’s what 13 year olds need.

–The show is so unfocused. Is it mythology based or case of the week. Is it cartoony (most of the performances) or is it supposed to be a gritty and realistic look at life in a corrupt city that is in need of a hero?

–Making Firefly a girl is a unique twist but I can’t decide if they are doing it because they already have too many male villains on this show or because there is a larger point.

True. Though if they are doing Hades, it should’ve been James Woods! lol

Also Robert Carlyle and Barbara Hearshey are big names but the show got them.

For Barbara, that’s back in S1 when the show was one of the highest rated new dramas on TV. And for Bobby, that was back when Rumple was written insanely compellingly.

Also, they wouldn’t be casting if they got James Woods. They’d just approach him, a la Bex and Elizabeth Mitchell.
