"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I suspect that whoever did it would have to be the original Dark One — perhaps this is at the origin of the DO curse, a kind of Faustian bargain by someone who tried to illegitimately harness Excalibur’s power.
Yeah that sounds about right. I’m starting to get the feeling that Merlin only tethered the Darkness to someone after he did an OOPS sort of thing.
My thought as of now sorta goes like this: Merlin made a deal with the Lady of the Lake (Nimue) that if she gave up the Special Sword, he’d use it and his magical abilities for Good (capital G, cause we’re in cosmic storytelling mode). And for awhile he did, but the power of the sword was overwhelming and soon the sword became tainted by Merlin’s own greed; the sword and Merlin fed off each other (cough Elric and Stormbringer cough). When the situation became BAD (again, capital B…and A and D) Nimue stepped in and lopped off the corrupted part of the sword (cause totes in love with Merlin) but the Darkness and Corruption was now out in the world and it brought forth Evil Things. So Merlin and Nimue decided to tether it to a being to make it easier to control (with the end of the dagger). But ….*mumble* things went wrong.

Possibly. I dunno. I think A and E are going to try and appease as many fans as possible so
–no TLK with Hook , but CS sails on
–Regina gets the dagger and is in charge of saving Emma but lives happily ever after with Robin
–Henry plays a bigger role in saving Emma but doesn’t TLK her because “reasons”
–Emma saves herself and A and E gets to pat themselves on the back for writing “strong woman”
Thus: CS appeased, SQ appeased, OQ appeased, SwanBelievers appeased, UglyDucklings/non shipers are appeased.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"They might not be crushing dreams. RumBelle had TLK in season one… And he’s been the dark one for 3 seasons after that. For all we know, and might even see, Hook tried TLK on Emma while in Camelot and it just didn’t full do its work because she stopped it, just as Rump did.
But why would Emma stop him? Emma doesn’t want the Darkness. Rumple did. He didn’t have Bae back yet so getting his TLK with Belle came at the wrong time, hence his stopping it. After that, in SB, we don’t know why it didn’t work. We were always told it was because magic works differently in SB but…Snowing. So we’re back to the original question of why would she stop it.
