KeymasterI thought it was a wand too, Slurpeez. Wish they had left this in or released it after the airing of Heart of Gold. It would be a nice tie back to Lacey and help to fill in some plot holes, especially since the episode was already tied back to Lacey with the clover (and recasting of Robin) and the arrow that never misses its target actually coming from Oz.

KeymasterMy guess is this scene was going to explain how Robin used the emerald curtain to travel to Oz, but they cut this scene for time
Yeah probably.
Well spotted on the scenes.

KeymasterIt would be interesting to compare the writers for each seasons. Wasn’t there a bit of a change between 2 and 3?
There were a few changes (maybe one person leaving) after S2. But there were quite a few changes after S3
Now it’s just sad to watch Season one and think of what might have been.
And then there’s me and I can’t watch S1 at all without becoming increasingly angry

KeymasterWell, at least one of the partners doesn’t sparkle
Oh just you wait, my friend. That’s S5.
Cue the Brontes, Jane Austin and other classics. Heck, cue Nabokov if you want to go really problematic. Or, more recently, and with a lot less sophistication, cue Twilight and the whole vampire kick of the last couple of decades. We (lets call it “Western popular culture”) have been obsessed with romanticizing (to use the neutral term for the sake of appropriateness) power differentials. If you’re going to write a romantic subplot, it’s simply the point of least energy expenditure.
I complete agree with you. I know I’ve said it before; a lot of the really problematic stuff on OUAT isn’t really an OUAT problem or an A and E problem, it’s a media problem and cultural concern.

KeymasterHook (and Regina it seems) are now so in tune with their inner light that they’re teaching EMMA, TRUE LOVE INCARNATE, all about being good and doing the right thing.
When you put it like that, I get all the sads.
No but really…that’s just a very sad way to look at this show. Too bad it’s also insanely accurate.

KeymasterIt’s about the love of a good woman redeeming (potentially) the bad guy.
Apart from Snowing and SwanFire, this is the basic paradigm of most of the ships, just with genders reversed.
Hook and Emma : Bad Boy and Good Girl
Rumple and Belle : Bad Boy and Good Girl
Regina and Robin: Bad Girl and Good Guy
Regina and Emma : Bad Girl and Good Girl
Even some more crack ships
Hook and Ariel/Tink : Bad Guy and Good Girl
Ruby and Dr. Whale : Good Girl and (Somewhat) Bad Guy
Regina and Graham : Bad Girl and Good Guy
There is this trend that runs through OUAT that in order for a couple to be interesting or “hot” or worthy of A and E’s time it must have some sort of inequality as far as morals, ethics, past, deed and actions go.
Which is passing strange given that the only couple on this show for a very long time was Snow and Charming who are Good Girl and Good Guy.

KeymasterFinally got caught up for this week.
I thought this was a much better episode than what we’ve seen in a long time. I enjoy the Ogre; I’d be more than okay if he was a villain for a season or half a season. He’s compelling, he’s genuinely scary, and he’s played by Milo! He’s been far more successful than the Scarecrow, or the Joker, who I fear might never resurface. He makes realize that this show could be something really good if it just slowed down on trying to cram as much into one season as possible. He actually made Barbara interesting! Well, more interesting at least, a feat I thought would be impossible. I would really like it she just went full on psycho and then went on a killing spree with the Ogre. But of course, they went and killed him. Because I can’t have anything good on this show.
The rest of plots were more or less “meh.” I did enjoy Nygma’s story this week. I really wish the writers would give him more to do; I find him just as fun to watch as Penguin, though in the latter’s case, he’s starting to bore me since they just keep him rather static and stationary. Though, at least, this week something was finally *done* The letter from Nygma was cute.
Baby Batman…I just don’t care. I want to. But i just don’t.
Really could have done without the seemingly random BDSM club scene. I don’t have a problem with sex on TV or even “kinky” sex but it has to feel relevant and not like it’s just for shock value (like the sound of an electric saw and a squealing pig in the background)
And I’ve said this before but Ben McKenzie is just bored/boring in this role. “I thought it was my devastating good look….that was a joke.” But yet it was delivered flatly and without any sense or humor. I almost snooze when he’s on screen.

KeymasterI do think they’re setting Rumple up to be the next big bad.
But he’s currently the big bad. The Three QoD were just blips in the long run; barely worth being called villains, apart from Cruella. Rumple is the big bad right now, even A and E said so before S4B began.
and we all pretty much know who the real big bad for S5A is going to be…Black Swan
ETA: im not saying that you’re wrong in your other thoughts but Rumple being the next big bad would be simply repetitive when A and E already think he is.
