The Live + 7 ratings don’t take into account those who watch on Hulu or abc.com within a week do they?

Alice wants to destroy RumBelle? What?!? And she’s awake?!? SUPER excited for this one.

This was the best episode of the season so far for sure. I thought there was a noticeable quality level difference. I very much enjoyed this one.

    Liked:

    – Dania’s performance – I know a lot of people have been criticizing her portrayal of Cinderella/Jacinda, but I felt like she really came into her own this episode. Her emotions were very believable to me and her speech was a typical inspiring OUAT monologue – in a good way.

    – Jacinda making the right choice by the end of the episode.

    – Lana Parilla – I am loving wise sage Regina giving Cinderella motherly advice based off of what she’s been through in the last six seasons – Hooray for character growth

    – Henry still has the “Heart of the Truest Believer” and his heart is still protected – Hooray for continuity!

    – Emma Booth’s character at the end. Aside from her bad wig (what is with the bad wigs this year??), I’m very intrigued by her.

    – Tiana continues to be awesome. OUAT does parent-child and friend relationships the based and her friendship with Jacinda feels very genuine.

    – Not seeing Anastasia’s face was classic OUAT and I liked it. This episode in general just had more of that S1 feel of mystery and revelations. I’m excited for more of that.

    Mixed:

    – So Lady Tremaine is anti-magic based on 7×01, but we’ve seen her use it every episode so far! I hope they explain that and perhaps her complicated relationship with magic.

    – Anastasia – There goes the tiny, tiny sliver of hope left for a ScarletQueen resolution. I was glad to have her “introduced” this early in the season though. It’s her child so it’s different than Regina and Daniel, but it feels a bit too familiar – at this point anyway. Also, her motive is revenge/avenging a death just like Regina’s was…I’m hoping Jacinda actually is to blame for Anastasia’s death and not another “big-mouth little Snow situation.” I do like that we know so much about Tremaine’s motivations and end goal already though.

    – I’m really glad we didn’t have a “Lucy’s trapped underground episode.” But the verbatim recycling of dialogue….Andrew and Allison are doing a great job with it, but there’s just a little too many “echoes” going on, as A&E put it.

    – It’s nice that they moved on from the burnt petition storyline, but they needed to show Roni and Rogers being at least a little aggravated with Jacinda.

    Disliked:

    – After last week’s episode it would have been nice to get a little more feel for WR Hook’s character, and more good guy vibes?? from him. So far I’m not impressed with what we saw and I don’t want to see Sleazy Hook’s character growth again. Let’s just have him start out honorably this time – I hope they go that route.

    – No Alice again 🙁 But I’m excited by next week’s promo!

Hopefully explaining why she was trying to kill the Prince?

That would be good. I hope we see it though, at least at some point, and don’t just have her explain it to Tiana or something.

I thought this episode would be about Alice given the title but it seems to be focused on Cinderella.

Rose Reynolds tweeted that her next appearance wouldn’t be until 704. She’s not even credited in the press release here for 703, so guess that’s really the case.

    Quote

Yeah that’s disappointing we’ll have 2 eps in a row without Alice. I guess that’s why she’s not billed as starring at this point.

This is so strange to me, because while I get that Wish Realm Hook’s memories are the same up until that point, none of that actually happened to him because he didn’t exist until The wish was made creating the realm and it’s inhabitants.

Yeah this is the big conundrum with the Wish Realm and how/when it was established. And actually those themes–what makes reality, our experiences or our memories even if those memories are false–would be seriously interesting to explore. Westworld is a prime example of how fantasy/scifi does that sort of naval gazing well. But OUAT is more like a bull in a china shop when it comes to compelling think pieces.

I’m thinking that once the Wish Realm was created it now a valid alternate realm that was basically wishes into existence. Otherwise Robin and the Evil Queen would not have been able to go there. Robin would have failed to exist and the Evil Queen would have been taken somewhere else. The Wish Realm is now another real place that was brought about by a wish and all the people in it are now real with real memories as well.

I agree it’s definitely real and a valid place. It’s interesting you mention when the realm was established, RG. We assumed and maybe A&E even confirmed the realm was created by the Evil Queen’s wish, but what if it wasn’t? What if that world already existed prior to the wish and our Emma just took the Wish Realm Emma’s place? Maybe there are multiple realms where Regina didn’t cast the curse, Rumple didn’t let Bae go through the portal, Snowing never met, etc. If Wish Realm has always existed, then Wish Realm Hook would actually have lived out his whole life and not just have memories of what he didn’t actually do. It may be a retcon, but with A&E really embracing the alternate realms with different Cinderellas, Alices, etc, I wouldn’t put it past them at all.

“The Eighth Witch” is a title of book that was published in 2012. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:

Four centuries ago witch hunters killed the seven Yardley sisters.

Now Department 18 must battle…the eighth witch!

Four hundred years ago six of the seven Yardley sisters—all witches—were hunted down and killed. The seventh lived long enough to give birth to a daughter. Now, centuries later, that daughter has resurfaced in the town of Ravensbridge, more powerful than her mother or aunts ever were. She has honed her powers, can change shape at will, and has only one ambition—to bring her family back from the dead to seek vengeance against the descendants of all who slaughtered them. Ravensbridge once lived in fear of the seven Yardley sisters, but they have yet to experience the terror of…the Eighth Witch.

    Sounds very “Once-esque” to me.

I know this was Jmo’s last episode and she and Hook seemed to get closure, but is there more to their story they want to tell possibly? Hook told Regina,

“If he knew what really happened, he’d drop everything and come back. She wants to let him get on with his life.”

“What really happened”? That’s an odd way to speak about a pregnancy and why wouldn’t Emma want Henry to know he was going to have a half-brother? And she thinks he’d stop his life if he knew? Maybe it was just a badly written line and they were trying not to spoil the pregnancy “surprise,” but someone asked Adam on Twitter how this really explained Emma’s absence for the rest of the season and he responded that it would all make sense by the end of the season. He also said, “We’re fully aware that NOT seeing Emma needs to make sense logically given her character and who she is.” Is there more there?

Adam and Eddy aren’t writing it, so maybe the Winter Finale is 711?

    Quote

Yeah, interesting. Maybe they will air on Black Friday after all to fit 11 episodes in.

About Hook and Milah – were they really true loves? I don’t think there was ever solid proof of that and let us not forget that most cringy of lines… “You lasted longer than I expected. If you’d fought me with such vigor back in the day, I might have returned your wife to you. Soiled…but returned” (Hook to Rumple in season 5, ‘Broken Heart’). Granted that’s just one quote from when Hook was The Dark One (for a hot minute) and I’m sure someone who really wanted to could compile a list of every time Hook has referenced Milah to try and figure out how he really felt about her…but really when was the last time this show was consistent anyway? My take on Hook and Milah at the moment is that they were both unhappy selfish humans who found kindred spirits in each other. Sort of a Rumple and Cora thing. That doesn’t mean he didn’t love her, but I think this ‘true love’ concept from Once seems like a higher less selfish love or something? Like Rumple would absolutely give his life for Baelfire and Belle (cause he did), Charming and Snow would give their lives for one another ect. …but would Hook? Would Milah? Has anyone ever really outlined what True Love really is in Once?

Wish Hook said that his life was the same as regular Hook until the curse was supposed to happen. So based on that, Milah still died. I’m guessing he found somebody else, after Regina failed to cast the curse, and he had his daughter with her.

This is so strange to me, because while I get that Wish Realm Hook’s memories are the same up until that point, none of that actually happened to him because he didn’t exist until The wish was made creating the realm and it’s inhabitants.
