This.
-Merida and Belle’s adventure. I wanted to be invested, but I just wasn’t. The storylines aren’t the same, but I was reminded of Belle being paired up with Mulan in S2. To me, it felt a touch repetitive.
More than a touch. This is Belle and Mulan (s2) and Belle and Anna (s4) over again. Every time Belle gets a centric, it somehow is actually another female’s storyline and Belle is just sorta *there* mostly prodding the other female into heroism.
Oh gosh, I completely forgot about the Belle and Anna adventure. (Weird, because that was much more recent than Belle and Mulan.) Enough with the Belle + Other Disney Princess = Other Princess’s Courage formula. It’s been exhausted… just like having your memories taken.

Liked:
-Merlin: “Ah, well, aren’t you the clever one.” Belle: “Glad someone noticed.”
-Regina’s makeup
-Zelena: “Was that a kick my little munchkin?”
-Apollo bars… another nod to Greek mythology.Mixed:

-Belle’s (ugly) cloak covered in roses. I see what you did there.
-Emma and Zelena’s conversation. I liked Zelena being uninterested in Emma’s deal. Yet something about Emma’s behavior here rubbed me the wrong way; I can’t quite put my finger on it. She seemed less like a cunning Dark One and more… desperate? Like I said, I can’t quite place what’s bothering me here.Disliked:
-The double standard when it comes to saving Emma but risking Rumple.
-The Charmings & co. leaving Arthur alone to ‘talk’ to Merlin. Hey did you see that gullible is written on the ceiling?Keeper of Regina's book of magic

Liked:
-Appearance of who I assume is the first DO.
-Regina concerned about Henry & Violet
-Cruella’s car for sale in the background of one of the scenes
-All the Neal mentions and S1 / S2 references
-Regina’s memory with Cora and Daniel
-Stud Muffin Merlin
-“Peter Peter’s Pumpkins & More!” Cute.
-The light and dark magic freeing Merlin from the tree.
-Merlin shutting Arthur down when he reaches for Excalibur. Go home Arthur, your sword’s broken.
-Merida taunting Rumpel with the cup.
-Emma ripping out a 13 year old’s heart. Her Cora-inspired manipulation of Henry had me glued to the TV.
-Henry seeing the memory of Emma taking Violet’s heart. Get ready to deal with the consequences Ms. Swan.
-Emma has to be truly ready to let go of the darkness.
-Emma and Regina’s conversation at the end.Mixed:
-Sir Morgan
Disliked:
-Rumpel’s hero training.
-Merida knowing about the book and where to find it.Keeper of Regina's book of magic

This. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed it and was bothered.
Yes but you know what really bothered me? “Lady Mary Margaret” Okay, 1) she’s Snow White and 2) She’s a Queen in the Enchanted Forest. GAAAAAAAH
That bothered me so much. I mean, yes they’re in Camelot, but aren’t they also technically in Fairy Tale Land? It’s all the same realm. She should be going by her actual name.
Are they in Fairy Tale Land? Or is Camelot a realm of it’s own? Because surely Arthur and Camelot would have heard of the Evil Queen, who was declared one of the most fearsome villains, second only to the Dark One….surely they would have known Regina wasn’t the Savior!!!! But I just told myself, Camelot is just it’s own realm living next door to the Enchanted Forest like Wonderland and Oz. Though I maybe wrong, but to silence that voice that says “This doesn’t make sense” I just go with the flow.
The necklace Percival gave Regina was a bit much.
Regina’s dress and hair for the ball. I know the goal was to soften her look, but they took it to the opposite end of the spectrum. She isn’t going to Medieval Prom. A happy medium between Evil Queen and Pretty Pretty Princess would’ve suited Regina’s character better. And ugh, the hairstyle just did not work with the dress IMO. Far too casual.
Emma looking like a bride at the ball.
CGI of Camelot.
Dude in distress Robin. I’d like to see him be a little more heroic again.
Absolutely campy, cheesy way to stop the Fury. Total cop-out. Snow and Charming willing to make Prince Neal an orphan. No.
The way Charon emerged and disappeared was awful. It could’ve been much more realistic. I don’t understand why his boat was shown attached to a giant block – maybe I’m missing something here. It reminded me of someone being pushed and pulled off stage during a play.
Likes:
Charming living up to his name.
I don’t know why, but the closeups of Charming’s face when Percival was spying made me giggle.
Snow and Emma’s mother-daughter moment before the ball.
Belle and Leroy being friends.
“I can use that dagger to make you do this but I’m not! I’m asking you.” – Regina
SB Gang seeing Emma talk to an invisible RumpleDO.
Emma’s glittery hand.
Belle and Hook’s conversations about how to cope when you love a DO.
Emma unable to bring herself to go in to Granny’s.
Loves:
The entire scene and dialogue where the Charmings teach Regina how to dance. It shows how far they’ve come… especially when Regina is willing to open up and be vulnerable to them about filling the role of the Savior, and the Charmings treat her as a friend in return.
Guinevere’s necklaces. I want them.
The scene where Charming coaches Henry on how to talk to Violet.
Charon. HAAAAAADDDDDEEEESSSSS. COME TO ME. If we’re getting Greek Mythology next I will be over the moon.

SapphireParticipantWhat if Merlin isn’t in the tree at all!!!!!!!!!!!! When he met Emma, he didn’t say anything about “Hey, I don’t mean to….BARK at ya, but I think you should LEAF this movie theater and come free me from some random tree. I know it’s scary but i’m…ROOTING for ya, hahah….but no seriously, come help, I’ve got termites!” He just told he to stay away from Excalibur. And also…. we only know that Merlin is trapped in a tree because Arthur said it. I think we all agree he is quite shady. And what about apprentice? Surely he must have known Merlin was permanently cosplaying treebeard, right? But he never mentioned it? Or even said where Merlin is. Nah. I don’t trust this. Something isn’t adding up. And I am betting Arthur isn’t being as truthful as he claims. Merlin is not in that tree. Whoever it is or whatever it is can only be freed by reuniting the dagger with Excalibur and doing so will probably unleash something even worse. I am betting Morgana is the one in that tree. Or black fairy. But not merlin. This is why he warned Emma. Don’t use Excalibur.
I was thinking this the other day; Merlin isn’t the one in the tree. (Granted, it evolved into a crack theory which I posted about Guin being the one in the tree, but I was still thinking it.) Arthur seems far too charming and shady to me. I suspect the ‘prophecy’ is something that he schemed up and sold to his subjects as a positive (Merlin’s return), but instead it hides an ulterior motive (power or personal vendetta, for example). I agree that if Merlin isn’t in there, then Morgana or the Black Fairy is.
Going off of this theory, I poked around on Google for fairies and trees. Wikipedia has an article on Celtic Sacred Trees, which states in regards to the elder tree: “The elder, having clusters of white flowers and red or blackish berry-like fruit, has many associations with the fairy world in oral traditions of recent centuries in Celtic countries. On the Isle of Man, where elder grows abundantly and is called tramman, it is commonly thought of as the ‘fairy tree’. In Ireland many individual elder trees were thought haunted by fairies or demons.” Celtic Sacred Trees Wikipedia
If it isn’t Merlin, and is the Black Fairy or Morgana instead, what do you all think Arthur’s motives are?

SapphireParticipantI hope the Underworld is explored, because in my mind that means… HADES.

SapphireParticipantPersonally, I thought it was handled well, and I found it adorable. It gave me flashbacks to my old middle school crushes. I enjoyed watching Charming step in to help out his grandson.
