SaraTheHLessParticipant
It’s kind of lame IMO because it’s like “Well you both have ice powers and sister issues sooooo!”
If that were the sum of it, I agree, it would be pretty lame. What makes the pair interesting for me is that, though they do fulfill similar roles in their respective stories, they go about it in such different ways that they’re almost guaranteed to be a bit at odds, despite all the parallels. The exactly-alike-yet-conviced-they’re-exact-opposites dynamic is something that intrigues me about the world in general so, I wouldn’t mind at all if they touched on that a bit. But, as far as pairing Elsa off with anyone romantically, I feel like to do so would take her from being that queen of isolation that people are identifying with to, well, just another queen. I hate to say it, cause I want her to have her happy ending as much as anyone but, I’d also like for someone to suggest a solution to life’s problems that’s less dismissive than “you need to get laid”. If any of the over-prescribed “conformance” solutions had actually been viable, there’d be no need for all the isolation in the first place. I think, as fellow fans of the film, they’ll do the character justice, whatever they opt to do with the story. If there’s sassy Jelsa banter involved, all the more entertaining for me.
I also wonder if the race issue doesn’t have something to do with acquiring permission to portray those characters. I was watching TPATF the other day and got to recalling just how much the details of that film were vetted before it ever got released to the public. Maybe the Disney powers-that-be aren’t as comfortable letting A&E experiment with their ethnic heroes? That would be a shame; I’d like to see more significant non-white characters surviving on this show.

SaraTheHLessParticipantI thought so too at first but, they’re awfully big, aren’t they? Does anyone know where to find a good screen shot of the parent puppets?
Edit: Found one and yeah, I think you’re right. The blur on the lens is making the black and red look gold. Thanks, mystery solved. *grin*

SaraTheHLessParticipantHmm, I have to agree on the shift in focus from “big picture” story arcs to ship-centered ones. However, I’ve got a theory forming as to how the various mini arcs eventually tie together (hopefully sooner than later) so maybe it will all have been for something, after all. As for writing for the shippers, they’re largely the ones who are making videos for Youtube, images for Tumblr, fan-fiction, ect. From a purely business perspective, it makes sense not to neglect them.
Shipping in Once, for me, doesn’t mean characters have to end up together ever or can’t be involved with other characters. It’s just my best guess at what I think is a good pairing and doesn’t mean I don’t care about other ships or see validity in them. I think a lot of shipper hate has to do with people believing that their personal beliefs of what love is or ought to be are challenged or threatened by the existence of other ships but, really, every “ship” has something different to say about some aspect of love. Maybe, if the discussion could be more centered around what each ship has to offer the big picture, rather than making it a winner-takes-all debate, ship threads would become more bearable?
I too miss the days of guessing which Storybrooke resident would end up being which character. Good times. *sigh*

SaraTheHLessParticipantYeah, a nod is fine by me. I think enough of the character’s key personality traits fall under folklore domain to make it amusing and I’d expect Once to do its own take anyway. Thanks for the info on the books; I had no idea the film had been based on a series. I wasn’t paying enough attention to the credits, I guess.

SaraTheHLessParticipantPrice, I love those creepy snowmen! I want an army of them for Season 4. Maybe instead of creating life, Elsa can just turn people into pointy-toothed snowmen, sorta like Zelena with her winged monkeys.
I’m also throwing my vote in with WR for Jelsa, as there’s nowhere else that pairing will ever happen. It doesn’t have to be big or romantic (it’s probably far better if it isn’t) but, like, just a nod, make em besties, rivals, or something…just put em in the same shot and I’ll be happy.
Let epic ice battles ensue…From the description, it does kinda sounds love-trianglish with Kristoff. In the film he never really displayed any “deep love” for Elsa…maybe for the ice!
I’ll be hoping it’s more love-rivalish (i.e. not all or any sides need be romantic, just competing for attention), if that’s the way they’re wanting to take it. Like, perhaps Anna is so busy helping Kristoff adjust to living indoors, it interferes with chances to finally have some sister-time or something.
Someone in another thread had suggested Elsa would have a connection to Belle and it made me recall a bit from the Mad Tea Party chapter about the three little sisters (Lacie, Elsie, and Tillie) who lived at the bottom of a treacle well. It’s obviously not to be taken literally but, if you want to make the far stretch that Elsie=Elsa and Lacie=Lacey, there could be a metaphorical Belle-Elsa tie-in there, for whomever was hoping for that (sorry, I don’t recall your names).
With storylines for the 3 new Frozen cast members, the regular OUAT cast, and then somehow bringing Will over from Wonderland, I’m a bit worried now as to who’s going to get pushed to the sidelines this season in terms of plot/character development. Sort of hoping that it’s a misdirect or maybe they’re casting for people to play the characters under glamor spells if time-travel is a thing in S4 and they don’t want to let us know which OUAT character in the future is doing what right away.
On a random note (and maybe I need to make a thread for this instead of asking here), has anyone figured out who the person standing behind Rumple is?! It looks like Garnet from Final Fantasy IX to me, haha.

May 29, 2014 at 3:06 am in reply to: Who/Why Do You Think Elsa Is Connected To In Our Core Cast (Friend, Foe, Family) #271674SaraTheHLessParticipantI really need Elsa to NOT be after ANYONE! Seriously. DO NOT TURN ELSA INTO A VILLAIN. *twitch*
Hmm, maybe she IS after someone but, not in a villainous way. She was, presumably, eavesdropping on Emma’s whole “I’d saved her and lost her too/ He wasn’t bringing me to break a curse; he was bringing me home” speech, while she was melted blue goo inside the urn. It would be a shame to have the themes cross so nicely without it having some impact on her thinking…otherwise, couldn’t she have popped the lid back in the vault and gone about escaping and/or kicking Rumple’s butt the next time he blitzed down there? So, maybe she’s decided to go looking for her “Henry”…err, in this case, that would be Anna.
IF the movie events are maintained, that would imply that she’s reaching Storybrooke shortly after freezing Anna’s heart.

SaraTheHLessParticipantIt’s possible that by the time fall gets here, everyone will have played-out the Elsa they know and love ad nauseam. The only thing I’m not tired of at this point is the music and speculating what she’s going to look like in the ONCEverse.
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantYeah, I can see why you’d be concerned but, I’m sure they’ll either find a way to do enough exposition to catch people up on what they need to know or they’ll start dropping more hints that fans may want to watch it prior to the start of season 4.Wonderland was intended to be a self-contained story arc so, there may not be much that needs said other than “Here’s Ashley’s step-sister who ran away and became queen of Wonderland”, “Here’s Will Scarlet; he pissed a whole lot of people off when he was serving Cora as the Knave”, ect. since those storylines were all tied up at the end of episode 13 and anything done with the characters for season 4 of OUAT would likely be the start of a whole new arc. Assuming they leave OUATIW up on Hulu, people may gravitate towards it during the hiatus for lack of any new episodes to watch, anyway.
Yeah I’ve seen that suggested, but it’d be a “meh” way for them to introduce him IMO. Granted he’d be missing some of our world’s comforts when he’s in WL, but he’s a King there, so is it really that bad that he has to come back to SB to get stuff from his old apartment? And being a loner, I dunno that he’d have unfinished business with anyone in SB that he felt a desperate need to go back and resolve.
Yeah. I had an intro scenario in my head that involved Emma taking over the lease on his apartment but, I have to agree with you. Unless, Ana is making him shape up now that he’s king and all…

SaraTheHLessParticipantJust in keeping with the whole “innocence reclaimed” idea, I think Anastasia (i.e. the White Queen version of her) could be written to be enough like Anna where it mattered. I totally agree with you that, personality-wise, the Red Queen version is far more like Elsa than Anna, which could put Anastasia in a good position to relate to where Elsa is coming from. I’ve also considered that the twist in this case could end up being that Elsa and An(n)a are one in the same, no new sister needed, per say, maybe just a good friend. Or, maybe there’s no biological sister needed at all. I like the idea of Will’s sister being Elsa as well and, since Will and Ana are now the White King and Queen, that would be more like a sister-in-law.
If Lady Tremaine adopted all her daughters, it might help explain the sudden disdain towards the previously pampered Anastasia – I haven’t seen the Cinderella sequels so, all I have to go on here is the first movie. I’d just figured this was because Will had come into the picture. I don’t really see Drizella as playing much part either, unless she gets renamed and given a full character make-over. Maybe after Ana ran away with Will Lady Tremaine arranged a loveless marriage to a king for Drizella, who maybe was better at concealing her feelings and doing what was expected of her. That whole timeline is a little confusing to me because, as Ana leaves, Lady Tremaine says “At least I have your sisters” but, we know Ashley was already engaged to Prince Thomas at that point (the Jabberwocky mentions it later) so, there should only have been one left for her to use. Maybe, having seen the sequels, you understand that comment a bit better.
I’ve got a favorite theory that’s less reliant on characters already being matches for their Frozen counterparts and more on where they could develop from their current state that would still serve the key points of the Frozen/Snow Queen storyline. I might write it out later in greater detail (or as fan-fiction) but, for now, I’m keeping it to myself. I really like all your ideas too, though!
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantI agree, Phee. Although, he might also have lose ends to tie up in Storybrooke and get caught up accidentally in their eternal winter before finally making it back to Anastasia and Wonderland. Personally, I hope that’s not the case…makes him easier to write off.
